Northbound 405 Re-Opens After Crane Accident

All lanes of the Northbound 405 have now been re-opened! Traffic is still recovering from the hours it was closed, but at this point it is at least moving. The 405 had been shut down due to a crane that fell following a car accident. This occurred in Sherman Oaks, very close to the 101 interchange.

The crane operator was trapped for a time in the crane, but he has been rescued and airlifted to UCLA MedicalCenter.

Early reports say that the crane fell as a result of a car accident.

As early as 2:00pm, the 405 North was backed up to Sunset Blvd, and traffic is being diverted at Mulholland Dr.

Possible detours would still include taking surface streets such as Sepulveda Blvd and Balboa Blvd, or by transferring to the 101 from the Hollywood or Los Angeles area and taking it to the 170 or I-5 North.

A western alternative is to take the 101 North/West to the 23 North, to the 118 West, back to the 405 North
