‘Moving Day’ Walk Planned At Heritage Park To Raise Money For Parkinson’s Disease

The event is set to start at 9:30 a.m. at Valencia Heritage Park, with presentations and donation pledges ahead of a 10:30 a.m. walk through the park.

April is National Parkinson’s Disease Awareness Month, and studies show that movement is proven to help manage the symptoms of Parkinson’s, improving flexibility and mobility. The aim of Moving Day is to encourage people to stay active and move for better health.

The event will also include an area for children, a tent devoted to caregiver relaxation and a movement pavilion hosting yoga, dance, Tai chi and Pilates.

“We work for the foundation but we do have leeway to make our events unique to make them local and to serve the community,” said Sarah Osborne, community development manager for Los Angeles events. “Another thing about the walk is we keep a portion of the funds within that community and use it towards local resources.”

A large portion of the fundraising is delivered to the USC Parkinson’s Disease and Movement Disorder Center, one of the largest centers of its kind in Southern California.

The foundation has raised nearly $31,000 so far, and hopes to raise a total of $65,000 by the end of the month. Those that would like to donate can do so here.
