The inaugural Golden Years Expo and Senior Health Fair held Saturday was dedicated to seniors and their caregivers, officials said.

“After counting the ‘Goody Bags,’ we gave away and the number of attendees who participated in health screenings and promotions, we estimate over 1,800 attendees were at the free event,” said Gary Buterbaugh, the event producer.Jenell Watkins, of Newhall, won the grand prize of 400 California Super Lotto Plus Quick Pick Plays.

Henry Mayo Newhall Memorial Hospital officials presented the event with High Impact Event Resources employees at the Hyatt Regency Valencia.

The expo had a line at the door before opening, long lines for health screenings and happy sponsors and exhibitors, according to a statement by High Impact Event Resources.

Dozens of exhibitors participated in the expo by offering information, opportunities, products and services geared toward seniors.

Popular among the day’s activities were seminars covering topics such as VA and Medicare benefits, financial planning and health care, as well as health screenings provided by Henry Mayo Newhall Memorial Hospital, Facey Medical Group and Audiology Associates.

Exhibitors and sponsors contributed freebies and special offers to attendees, as well as 15 prizes valued from $50 to $1,000. Among the winners was Newhall resident Jenell Watkins, who won the grand prize of 400 California Super Lotto Plus Quick Pick Plays.

“This event obviously struck a chord with the entire community,” Buterbaugh said in a news release. “It looks like we have a new annual event. Thanks to our sponsors for making such an important event possible, and so successful. We also thank our volunteers, including the Hart District’s ROP – Event Planning class and Boy Scout Ike Harms and his father, Ivan.”

In addition to Henry Mayo Newhall Memorial Hospital, sponsors included Facey Medical Group, Santa Clarita Valley YMCA, the Magazine of Santa Clarita, KHTS AM 1220, The Santa Clarita Gazette/Santa Clarita Living, The Signal Multi-media, 25Score and SCV Hot Spot.
