Santa Clarita Public Library Offering Free Fall Activities In October

The Santa Clarita Public Library is inviting Santa Clarita residents to enjoy the fall season by participating in interactive, free programs offered at all branches of the Santa Clarita Public Library.

In October, the library will include the following fall and Halloween-inspired activities:

  • Survival: Zombie Apocalypse Edition – children ages 11 to 18 can learn the skills they need to survive a zombie apocalypse.
    • From 3:30 – 5 p.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 7, 2015 at the Newhall branch.
    • From 4 – 5:30 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 8, 2015 at the Canyon Country branch.
    • From 4:30 – 6 p.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 27, 2015 at the Valencia branch.
  • Everyday Heroes: Firefighters – From 3:30 – 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 7, 2015, the Valencia branch invites children grades kindergarten to sixth and their families to meet real live heroes: the firefighters that serve the Santa Clarita Valley. Participants can ask the firefighters questions and enjoy a craft time.
  • Everyday Heroes: Nurses – From 5 – 6 p.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 7, 2015, the Canyon Country branch will honor another brand of everyday heroes: nurses. Children grades kindergarten to sixth and their families are invited to this question and answer and craft time program.
  • Dia De Los Muertos – From 3:30 – 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 28, 2015 at the Canyon Country branch and Thursday, Oct. 29, 2015 at the Old Town Newhall branch, students ages 11 to 18 can create beautiful art using traditional Dia de Los Muertos design.
  • Mask Making – From 3:30 – 5 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 30, the Old Town Newhall Library will host a mask making workshop for children ages six and up.
  • Halloween Scavenger Hunt – From 1 – 3 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 31 at the Canyon Country and Valencia branches, families are invited to don their Halloween costumes and join in the library scavenger hunt.

In addition to themed activities, the Library is also hosting fall Story Times at all three library branches for young readers now through Nov. 20. For a full list of story times, visit this website.

Young patrons are also invited to celebrate Teen Read Week from Sunday, Oct. 18 to Saturday, Oct. 24, 2015 at the Valencia library branch.

The Valencia Library is located at 23743 Valencia Boulevard. The Old Town Newhall Library is located at 24500 Main Street. The Canyon Country Jo Anne Darcy Library is located at 18601 Soledad Canyon Road.
