Santa Clarita Residents Celebrate Holidays With Free Events

Santa Clarita residents are invited to celebrate the holiday season with four free events to be held in Newhall.

The festivities begin on Nov. 15 with the eighth annual Literacy & Arts Festival, presented by the SCV Education Foundation, in partnership with the city of Santa Clarita and the Santa Clarita Public Library. The family-friendly event will be held from 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. at the Old Town Newhall Library, at 24500 Main Street, and will feature opportunities to explore, see, create and hear various forms of reading and the arts.

The Literacy & Arts Festival will include storytellers, authors, performers, imaginative art activities, music and instruments. Guests will also be able to view dozens of exhibits and interactive demos highlighting how the arts are being integrated into Santa Clarita public schools. Residents can find one-of-a-kind gifts for the holiday season at the city’s annual Fine Craft Show from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 15 and Sunday, Nov. 16 at Old Orchard Park, located at 25032 Avenida Rotella. The free, outdoor event will feature hand-crafted jewelry, paintings, pottery, woodwork, ceramics and other items perfect for the holidays. Live performances and food will also be available in the festive park setting.

Local business owners, along with the city, invite residents to attend the Old Town Newhall “Sip & Shop” block party on Nov. 15 from 3:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. on Main Street. The event will feature wine tastings and appetizers, as well as promotions, specials and extended hours at dozens of popular retailers just in time for the holidays.

On Saturday, Nov. 15 at 6:30 p.m., the city of Santa Clarita will once again “Light Up Main Street” in Old Town Newhall. The Santa Clarita City Council will gather at the corner of Lyons Avenue and Main Street to flip the switch and transform Old Town Newhall into a winter wonderland with thousands of twinkling lights, seasonal displays and a glittering 23-foot tree. The evening will also include festive holiday music and photo opportunities with Santa Claus.

“Light Up Main Street” is presented by the city of Santa Clarita in partnership with the Santa Clarita Valley Automobile Dealers Association and Henry Mayo Newhall Hospital. For more information about “Light Up Main Street” and more holiday events happening in Old Town Newhall, visit the website.
