The Santa Clarita Valley Rose Society is offering tours of two private rose gardens at the homes of members, Santa Clarita Valley Rose Society officials announced Wednesday.
These private gardens will be open to the public on May 4 only, and Santa Clarita residents can bring friends and family for free admission and light refreshments, event officials said.
Attendees are encouraged to bring their own lunch, sun hat and camera and to wear comfortable walking shoes.

First Garden Tour
The first tour will take place at the home of Suzanne Burlingham, according to a SCV Rose Society news release.
Attendees can expect to see a variety of roses, including hybrid teas, floribundas, grandifloras and more, crowding the fountains and patios and climbing the walls and fences.
“I love roses, and I had been living in England where the gardens are absolutely fantastic and they go on forever,” said Burlingham, who has lived at her current house for only two years. “My primary love is to garden, and I’ve put in about 150 roses in the two years I’ve been here so far. They’re still young, but it’s well on the way.”
While some gardeners may be interested in the small size of the garden, she said, others may want to learn how she copes with the challenge of the heavy amount of shade her garden has, leading to issues like mildew, rust and black spot.
Burlingham’s garden tour is scheduled from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. at 22315 Circle J Ranch Road in Saugus.
Second Garden Tour
The second tour will take place at the home of Russ and Chris Sidles.
The Sidles’ garden features more than 200 roses and a variety of other plants as well, including camellias, azaleas and berry vines.
There is also a gazebo surrounded by all ablaze roses and two arbors with white iceberg roses growing over them, event officials said.
“I like to be outdoors, so I always liked gardening,” said Chris Sidles, who has been a member of the SCV Rose Society with her husband, Russ, for about three years.
The Sidles’ garden tour is scheduled from 12 to 2 p.m. at 28105 Meadbury Drive in Saugus.
