Every year since 2009, businesses, organizations and community groups have submitted cakes that represent their mission or goal and fit with the competition’s theme.
This year’s theme is “Community.”
The cakes are auctioned to raise money for the Youth Project’s school-based programs to help teenagers deal with difficult life issues.
Whitening Lightning and Clear Channel Outdoor are this year’s Fondant Sponsors
Whitening Lightning and Clear Channel Outdoor are this year’s Fondant Sponsors. Youth Project Board Member Renee Kaehny will chair the event.
“We are adding a few new components to the event this year, to include more students and schools as well as the community,” Kaehny said. “We are working hard to get more people involved and raise as much money as we can, so we can continue to provide free services to our kids.”
With an emphasis on building a fun and creative way to promote local companies, the Youth Project encourages charities and schools to design a specialty cake to promote their business, mission, logo, product or mascot, according to a Youth Project press release.
As in previous years, cakes will be put on display for viewing and bidding. Cakes will be paired with unique gifts, such as trips, baskets and gift certificates for auction.
“People still love this event, and we get more experienced designers and more creativity with each passing year,” said Kim Goldman, executive director for the SCV Youth Project. “We get so excited to see the incredible creations that our local businesses design.”
Cakes will be awarded prizes in several different categories including originality and creativity, as well as the cake that raises the most money. Judging panel to be announced in a few weeks.
Anyone submitting a cake to the competition must pay a $25 entry fee, and tickets are $45 to attend the reception. Sponsorship opportunities, ranging from $100 to $10,000 are also available.
Cakes must be registered and payment confirmed by Saturday, Feb. 15 to be included.
