Saugus High School Z Club held a “Conference for Equality” Saturday from 10 a.m to 3 p.m. at the Savia Center in Newhall.

“We had speakers talk to us about the inequalities women receive in areas such as business, technology and aerospace,” said Tyler Peckham, who’s the president of the Saugus High School Z Club. “We really want to focus on the inequalities in society and focus on female empowerment.”

The conference was composed of workshops centered on gender equality, domestic violence and teen violence.

The club was giving out free purple wristbands that said “Stand Up Against Violence” in support of Domestic Violence Awareness.

“We need to show people that domestic violence isn’t going away,” Peckham said. “You have to shove it in people’s faces or it won’t go away.”

The event was free to the public and sponsored by Zonta International and the Domestic Violence Center of Santa Clarita.
