SCV Buzz – Family Fun Activities In Santa Clarita – October 15, 2014

There is no fighting it any longer…Halloween season is upon us. So get in the zone and make it happen people!

By: Laura Nickerson

Here’s my top 5 local Santa Clarita family fun activities for weekend:

Underwater Pumpkin Carving

Why carve pumpkins the regular, oxygen-filled way when you can shake it up and head into the H2O at the Underwater Pumpkin Carving Contest and Spooky Family Fair? It’s Saturday, October 18th, at 6pm at the Santa Clarita Aquatic Center, and it’s going to feature a whole bunch of unique Halloween themed fun.

Certified SCUBA dive teams will carve pumpkins underwater and your kids can watch the action from the underwater cameras playing on big screens. Kids can add to the fun if they come dressed in their finest costumes and participate in various activities. You can call 250-3782 for info or to join the dive team if you are so inspired.

You will never want to carve a pumkin the old-fashioned, air-breathing way again.

Tricycle and Scooter RacesSCV Buzz - Halloween

Who doesn’t want to feel the wind against their face while they take off at breathtaking speed, leaving the cold, cruel world behind them? Well, your kids certainly do, as demonstrated by their death-defying stunts on anything with wheels.

Good thing they can show off their tricycle and scooter skills at a free race at the West Creek Park in West Saugus on Saturday the 18th from 10-2. Races are divided by age group and anyone from 1 to 99 years of age can join up. You can even bring your Big Wheels and hit the track.

Just follow the speed limit on your way there…

Old Town Newhall Library Makeup Demo

Are you the kind of person who watches the Walking Dead and dreams of finding your inner zombie? But when faced with face painting, does your creation turn into something that looks more “Tipsy Picasso” than “Night of the Living Dead?

A fun, free way to spice up your child’s Halloween costume is to check out the Old Town Newhall Library at 11:30am on October 18th for a free Halloween Makeup Demonstration. Go and get a little lesson so you can zombify your kid’s costume and make him or her the talk of the town.

Zombie Witch? Zombie Iron Man? Zombie Princess Elsa? Done.

Things To Do In Santa Clarita

Harvest Fest at the Santa Clarita Family YMCA

Harvest Festivals can be a blast, but sometimes they can end up being an expensive outing with all the added fees for the things your kids are begging you to do.

The Santa Clarita YMCA is having a festival this Saturday, October 18th from 4-7 pm and it is all free fun.  You can visit their website here for the details. Take your friends and families for this great event filled with fall fun. It’s sure to be a fantastic evening that won’t take a small fortune to enjoy.

It even has the three C’s of success: crafts, contests, and candy!

Halloween at Six Flags Magic Mountain

If you have little kids you may assume that any of the Halloween activities at Magic Mountain may be too scary and visiting the park will promptly send them to need expensive therapy.

But there is fun to be had for the little ones on weekends through Nov 1, including Witch Hazel Pumpkin Patch Crafts,  the Loony Tunes Trick or Treat Masquerade, and Loony Toons Characters. Your kids can come to the park in costume as long as they are under 12 and the outfits are not too gory or violent.

If your kids are teenagers, you can scare them properly in the evening at Fright Fest and send them to expensive therapy that at the proper age. Visit sixflags.com/magicmountain for info on hours and tickets.
