2015 Santa Clarita Cowboy Festival

If you are a fan of old western movies, or your kids just watched Toy Story a few too many times, you will want to go “whole hog” to the Santa Clarita Cowboy Festival!

It runs Thursday, April 15^th through Sunday, April 19th in Historic Old Town Newhall and has so many activities and events for all ages like living history, kids activities, and entertainment, I couldn’t possibly describe them all in this blog, so visit their website for the full schedule. It’s even an affordable event, with general admission for kids at $7 and adults at $10.

So don’t just get your kids out of bed on the weekend mornings, Head ‘em up and Move ‘em out!

The Addams Family

Fans of The Addams Family television show are in for a real treat with the upcoming production of the musical of the same name coming up this weekend at Saugus High School.

The musical comedy centers around a grown-up Wednesday Addams, the ultimate princess of darkness, and her surprisingly normal fiancée trying to integrate him into the delightfully abnormal Gomez family. Santa Clarita Dodger Day

“Take (your kids) out to the BAAALLLL GAAAMME” No seriously, take them, because the City of Santa Clarita is hosting Dodger Day.

Saturday, April 18 at 6:10pm take the kids to see Dodgers vs Colorado Rockies at Dodger Stadium. Money generated from this event will help support our schools and non-profit groups. Visit their website for info and to get tickets.

It’s a fun way to enjoy a baseball game with other local families, plus you can feed your kids with a Dodger Dog for dinner and not even feel guilty about it!

Cowboy Adventuring: Trick Roping, Whip Cracking and More

Want to stay with the cowboy theme this week? Well, you may need to get your kids prepared by taking them to the Newhall Library for their afternoon of Cowboy Adventuring.

Friday, April 17th from 4:00pm to 5:00pm you can learn the secrets of trick roping, listen to stories, and learn line and square dancing from cowgirl extraordinaire Christy Lewis. The program is free and geared for children 5 and up.

Learning how to trick rope and square dance? Think of how impressive you will be at all cowboy and camping trips from now on!

Operation School Bell 5K

When you hear the phrase “5 K “ do you jump for joy? Or do you just jump back on your couch and grab the remote? How about using a good cause to motivate you and the family to get some exercise by participating in the Operation School Bell 5K?

This Sunday, April 19th starting at 8:00am you can join up the 5K Run/Walk, 1K Kids run, or 5K Mutt Strut at the Newhall Park. The kids fun run is for ages 10 and under and registration is only $5. Fees vary for the other races and you can register and get all of the info on their website.

All proceeds benefit Operation School Bell program, which provides clothing and shoes for Santa Clarita Valley elementary, junior high and high school age students.

If that’s not motivation to get out and get moving, nothing is.
