SCV Buzz – Family Fun Activities In Santa Clarita – December 17, 2014

This is your big moment parents, like Babe Ruth at the plate, you can hit a home run or strike out because…. the kids are OUT OF SCHOOL FOR WINTER BREAK! And you can either go the extra mile to make a memorable vacation, or you can hide in your closet, sobbing and binging on powdered sugar-covered cookies.

Well, you might end up there either way, but here are some ideas to help make your break a great one.

Here are my top 5 picks for Family Fun in Santa Clarita this weekend:

Santa Clarita Ballet’s “The Nutcracker”

SCV Buzz - December 19Who doesn’t remember their first time seeing a live version of The Nutcracker? The beauty, the sparkles, the men in tight tights???

Well I certainly do!

It’s a fantastic holiday tradition to begin with your own family. This weekend you can see the classic ballet at the Santa Clarita Performing Arts Center at College of the Canyons Saturday and Sunday December 20th and 21st an you can get all of the details here.

Your kids will love it without even realizing you are exposing them to actual culture.

Valencia Library Screening of Disney’s A Christmas Carol

The holiday season can be a little pricey, if not downright expensive. So if there were a free showing of a movie that you will all love, and it’s close by, you would go, right? Well there is! It’s a free screening of Disney’s A Christmas Carol at the Valencia Library this Saturday, December 20th, at 12 noon in the VA Meeting room.

You can bring a sack lunch, but they are also providing free snacks too. So go and enjoy an event that even Scrooge himself would approve of.

Arctic Chill Polar Bear Swim on New Year’s Day

SCV Buzz - December 19New Year’s Day is a great time to get a fresh start…. or a “refreshing” start if you are heading to the Arctic Chill Polar Bear Swim! Starting at 9 am on New Year’s Day, you can take a chilly ride down the waterslide at the Santa Clarita Aquatic Center. The free event is open to the public, and your (slightly smarter) friends and family who don’t want to freeze their tushes off can come to watch and cheer you on.

If you can bring yourself to take the plunge, your name will be added to the Polar Bear Club Plaque. Warm coffee and cocoa will be poured into you afterwards, at least until you can feel your toes again.

It may not be the gentlest way to ring in the New Year, but it will be the most memorable!

Santa Clarita Top Things To Do

Six Flags Magic Mountain’s Holiday in the Park

Just when you think things are the “same old, same old”, along comes something new and exciting! This year Six Flags is having its very first Holiday in the Park, and it really is worth checking out.

There are hundreds of thousands of lights on display, a 30-foot Christmas tree, holiday cheer carolers, live holiday music, dancers, DJ and percussionist, games, and more. Plus make sure to catch the Winter Wonderland with larger than life snow sculptures and special guests Santa and Mrs. Claus! Visit this website for info and tickets and make sure to catch it before January 4th.

It will give you a whole new dose of holiday spirit.

Odd Fellows Christmas Train Display

SCV Buzz - December 19Trains and Kids go together like Peanut Butter and Jelly, Laverne and Shirley, Taylor Swift and perky breakup songs. So put them together at the Odd Fellows Annual Christmas Train Display at the Odd Fellows Lodge #314/Clock Tower in Santa Paula.

The dazzling display of miniature trains is totally worth the short journey to Santa Paula, plus at $2 to $3 per person, the price totally makes up for the mileage. The fantasyland of trains, bridges and tunnels, villages, and other attractions is ongoing through December 30th and you can get the details by calling 805.766.4400.

Trains and kids. Way happier together than Taylor and her ex-boyfriends…
