SCV Buzz – Family Fun Activities In Santa Clarita – January 14, 2015

You finally are back in your routine and the kids are back at sch…oh WAIT, THEY’RE OFF AGAIN! Well let me help you find some fun things to do with your kids over the long weekend.

Here are my top 5 picks for Family Fun Activities in Santa Clarita this weekend:

Science Expo

SCV Buzz - Martin Luther King DayDid your kids lose any of their …ahem… “scholastic abilities” over the holidays? Well here is a great and simple way to get them back in the game, the Science Expo at West Creek Park.

It’s on Saturday, January 17th, at 3pm and it will discuss electricity and its origins with Ben Franklin.

I want to go just so I can find out how to not get frizzy electrically charged hair on rainy days.

Martin Luther King Day Celebration

It’s hard to get your kids to comprehend the importance of Martin Luther King Day, so take them to the MLK Day Celebration in Stevenson Ranch and get a little help.

It’s at the Richard Rioux Park on Monday January 19th from 3:30-5pm. There will be a heartfelt event with the community remembering and celebrating the life and achievements of Martin Luther King Jr.

It will be a great way to spend a little time together and share an important conversation with your children.

Winnie-the-Pooh Day

SCV Buzz - Martin Luther King DayWho doesn’t have fond memories of the soft-spoken honey addict Winnie-the-Pooh and his crew?

Well it’s National Winnie-the-Pooh Day on Saturday the 17th, and the Canyon Country Library is ready to celebrate. Swing by the Canyon Country Library from 1-3 and join up for storytime and 100 Acre Woods Activities in the CC Meeting Room.

You just have to adore someone that says “Some people care too much. I think it’s called love.”

Santa Clarita Top Things To Do

Scrimshaw Craft Project

Need a fun activity that involves a “Scrimshaw”? Who doesn’t, right?

Well our favorite Friday after school program, Happenins at Hart, is hosting another cool craft with the art form “Scrimshaw” and your kids will love it. Head over after school on Friday, January 16th, from 3:30-4:30pm to the Hart Park Picnic Area with your K-5th graders to make your own scrimshaw art.

Don’t know what scrimshaw is? It involves carving into bones, but don’t get concerned, they are using air-dry clay instead.

Hug Machine Storytime

SCV Buzz - Martin Luther King DayNeed a hug? This Saturday, January 17th, at 11 am your kids can check out storytime and activities featuring Hug Machine. It’s being held at the Valencia Barnes and Noble at Valencia’s Creekside place and it’s free and open to all. Hug Machine is a delightful story about the best kind of embrace.

You may even get a few extra hugs from your kids while you are there! That’s worth it, right?
