As we brave another harsh, Southern California winter (it’s supposed to be 72 degrees in Santa Clarita this weekend), we must find the strength to tolerate the…moderate temperatures. Once we do, we might want to find some family fun activities with our kids so they don’t go all “Cold Mountain” on us.
Here are my top 5 picks for Family Fun Activities in Santa Clarita this weekend:
The Santa Clarita Preschool Fair
Finding the right pre-school for your kids can be as difficult as choosing between the Seahawks and the Patriots. Luckily, there is a great event coming up that can help you make an informed decision.
The First Annual Santa Clarita Preschool Fair is taking place this Saturday, January 24, at Valencia United Methodist Church from 10am – 1 pm. The free expo gives schools and businesses a station to interact with you parents and give you all the info you need to pick the right school for your child. Click here for details.
They can help with preschool. When it comes to football loyalties, you are on your own.
Food Truck Saturdays
Calling all Foodie Families! Have you taken the kids out to try Food Truck Saturday yet? It’s a fun way to shake up your normal dinner routine, and it’s a great way to entertain your family and feel like a part of the community.
Every Saturday from 4-8 food trucks are out in droves at 26573 Carl Boyer Dr in the Dicks Sporting Goods Parking Lot and there are several comfortable spots there to picnic and enjoy the food in a family and doggie friendly vibe.
If anything, the multiple choices of food mean one less argument you have with your kids that night over differing food preferences, and isn’t that alone inspiration to go?

Popcorn and a Movie
Going to the movies with a family of four now costs as much as the first year of their college education, so if there’s a chance to see a movie with the kids for free, you should go!
There are not one but TWO chances for you to catch a free family movie night this weekend. Friday, January 23rd at 3:30pm you can catch a free flick at the Old Town Newhall Library. If you are a member of the Canyon Country Community Center you can take the whole family to enjoy popcorn and the movie “Maleficent” starting at 7:00pm.
Either way you can now enjoy family movie night without having to take a second mortgage on your home.
Santa Clarita Top Things To Do
Minecraft at the Library
You may not know the ins and outs of the video game Minecraft, but I can guarantee your kids do. This Friday, January 23rd, from 6:15-7:45 they can meet up with other kids ages 9-14 for a Minecraft session at the Valencia Library. This is a library program so make sure you register your email and sign the consent agreement.
It’s will be entirely in “Creative Mode”, so ask your kids to explain to you what that means. And then let me know.
Hart High School Cabaret Pops Concert
The Hart High School has some great programs, and they are a perfect fit for families looking to shake up their entertainment choices.
This Friday January 23rd and Saturday January 24th the Hart High School Show Choir present their Cabaret Pops Concert at 7pm in the high school auditorium. Tickets are only $7 for students, $10 for general admission, and $15 for premium seating.
Introduce your kids to live entertainment and you will open up a whole new world of fun that you both can enjoy.
