The Super Bowl may be dominating your weekend family plans, but for the other day and a half that needs to be filled, plus for all of you who would prefer the torture of being stuck in a room with “Elmo’s Greatest Hits” playing on repeat to watching the game, here are some OTHER activities.
Here are my top 5 picks for Family Fun in Santa Clarita this weekend:
Story Pirates in “Greatest Hits”
Ahoy Mateys! Grab your little swashbucklers and head over to the Santa Clarita Performing Arts Center at College of the Canyons this Saturday, January 31st, for some pirate-themed fun.
The interactive live show put on by the Story Pirates will take your kid’s ideas and incorporate them into the show on the spot, validating your child’s incredible imagination and entertaining the whole family. It’s at 2pm and tickets are $10 for kids, $15 for adults. Info is available by clicking here.
Learning the world of the pirates can open up all sorts of fun, like celebrating “Talk like a pirate day” and threatening them to “walk the plank” if they don’t brush their teeth.

Teen Club at the Boys and Girls Club
I’m sure you are hoping that your teenager will be as well behaved on a Friday night as YOU were at that age, right?
WAAAIIITT! Now you that remember what you were really doing, you don’t want them doing THAT! So how about sending them to a fun free event at the Boys and Girls club instead?
This Friday night, January 30th, from 7-10pm they can hang out and have free pizza, snacks, and drinks, plus play ping-pong, air hockey, play in the pool, and compete in a Smash Bros tournament on Wii. They will have a speaker from the Santa Clarita Valley Youth Project as well, so it’s a very well rounded evening. Call 254-CLUB or click here for details.
A much better plan than whatever you were doing at their age. Am I right?
A Very Merry Unbirthday Party
Calling all Alice in Wonderland lovers, author Lewis Carroll’s Birthday was this week and the Canyon Country library is holding a “Very Merry Unbirthday Party” in his honor.
It’s Saturday, January 31 from 1-4:30pm and the free party will have all sorts of Wonderland related activities plus a movie viewing at 2:30.
If anything, it will be a great opportunity to say “Off with their heads!” repeatedly.
Inaugural Alumni Softball Game
Football SHMOOTBALL! It’s always a good time to watch a little baseball, and this weekend has the perfect opportunity.
The College of the Canyons is holding its Inaugural Alumni Softball Game on Saturday, January 31st at 1pm at Ray Whitten Field on the Valencia campus. It’s free to attend and cheer on over 25 years of former Cougar baseball players hitting the field like it was yesterday. Visit the COC website for details.
If you didn’t know, baseball is different than football because the ball is smaller. And rounder. And they hit it with big sticks. Aren’t you glad I am able to give you such valuable information on this topic?
Santa Clarita Top Things To DoGibbon Conservation Center Tours
Are your kids just big monkeys half the time? If so, they will love seeing their distant cousins at the Gibbon Conservation Center.
The Santa Clarita facility is open for tours on Saturdays and Sundays from 9:30 am to noon with tours available throughout that time. Admission ranges from $5 to $15, and is free to kids under 5.
The unique center is home to the petite and acrobatic apes known for their singing voices and high-flying hijinks, and you can get all the info here.
If anything, your kids will find some new ape-inspired tricks to try in your living room!
