Thanksgiving week means family, food, and digging out your old maternity jeans so you can fit in that last piece of pie (no judgment here, those pants are COMFY).
But after the food coma wears off, your kids will start running around the house in a sugar rush comparable to a stage 5 Hurricane.
You had better get them somewhere fun in Santa Clarita, pronto!
Here are my top 5 picks for Thanksgiving week family fun in Santa Clarita:
PayForward Ice Rink
Gliding over the ice in a flowy outfit – preferably covered with sequins – is a fantasy for most, so live it out with your whole family at the PayForward Ice Rink at the Westfield Valencia Town Center at Town Center Drive! It’s open 7 days a week through January 11th, which means you can go enough times to learn how to do something fancy without falling down if you put your mind to it.
It’s only $12 for kids and $15 for adults, including skate rental, and you can get the details here. Make sure to check for events like Coco with Santa, Shows, a Polar Bear Skate, and the “coolest” princesses of the year from Frozen.
Next stop for you after you master those moves on the ice? The 2018 Winter Olympics.
Operation Thank Our Troops
Thanksgiving is a fantastic time to think of others, and to teach your children to do the same.
Saturday, November 29th, from noon to 3, head over to the Old Town Newhall Library to join Prayer Angels for the Military fill holiday care packages for our troops overseas. The event is a fun way to gather with the community and show support for our military by cheering them up over the holidays.
If you can’t make the actual event you can also drop off donations through December 8th. Visit the website for details on what to donate, or make a cash donation instead.
Enjoy a teaching moment with your kids while helping those who have given us so much to be grateful for.

“The Elf on the Shelf” Story Time
Watch out, there’s a little strange man coming into your home and he’s full of mischief!
Relax, it’s just Santa’s favorite Elf/Spy, the Elf on the Shelf, and if you haven’t incorporated the holiday tradition yet it’s worth checking out. You can bring your kids on Saturday, November 29th at 10 am to the Barns and Noble at Creekside Place in Valencia for a special story time event featuring the Elf on the Shelf and all sorts of fun for your little ones.
The idea behind the tradition is that Santa sends his elf to watch your kid’s behavior, and then reports back to the big guy every night.
Anything that motivates my kids to be nice, instead of naughty, works for me!
Santa Clarita Top Things To Do
Miracle on 34th Street
A family friendly show that everyone will love? It’s a MIRACLE!
That’s right, the Canyon Theatre Guild is presenting the heartwarming play “Miracle on 34th Street” and it’s a fun evening out that will get your family primed and ready for the holidays. Opening on November 28th and running through December 21st, the play will turn even the biggest Scrooge into a softie with it’s story of Kris Kringle, an old man in a retirement home, getting a job as a Santa at Macy’s and spreading Christmas cheer. Tickets are reasonable and you can get the times and info here.
And Virginia, I believe…I believe…that you will have a fantastic night at the theatre!
Holiday Craft and Boutique Sale
You know you need to start your holiday shopping, right? Why not combine it with supporting our local artisans and vendors, entertaining your kids, and getting some cool gifts?
Head over to Hart Park in Newhall between 9 and 4 on Saturday and Sunday, the 29th and 30th, to enjoy the free Holiday Boutique & Craft Fair. Shop to your heart’s content while supporting local business. Bring a picnic if the weather is nice and make a day of exploring with your family.
Who knows, you might even find a gift that your impossible-to-please aunt/husband/mom/grandfather might like!
