SCV Buzz – Family Fun Activities In Santa Clarita – September 03, 2014

You have gone to the parties, played volleyball, and eaten roughly your own body weight in hot dogs. Yep, you did the holiday weekend right. BUT, there’s another weekend coming and you still have a little party in you, don’t cha?

Here are my top 5 Santa Clarita family fun activities for this weekend:SCV Buzz - Family Fun Activities In Santa Clarita - September 03, 2014

Latino Heritage Marketplace at Heritage Junction

The first weekend of the month is always fun, if only because you get to write a new number on the date of your checks. But there is something even MORE exciting, the SCV Junction Outdoor Marketplace at Hart Park’s Heritage Junction. It’s 10-4 pm September 6th & 7th and will have food, fun, arts and crafts, and music.

Call (661) 418-7718 for info. This month’s theme is Latino Heritage, which gives you the unique opportunity to say that you are going to Latino Heritage weekend at Heritage Junction. Which is more than the average use of the word “Heritage”. Another reason the first weekend of the month is the BEST!

Block Party at Valencia United Methodist Church

Nothing says summer fun like a good Block Party, and even though we are past Labor Day, it’s still summer to me. This Sunday, September 7th, the Valencia United Methodist Church is going to deliver the ultimate Block Party with food, music, carnival games, a waterslide, and even a pie-eating contest!

It’s from 4:30-7:30 and you can get the details at umcv.org/events. Oh, did I mention it’s FREE? That makes it even more enticing, as if the idea of a pie-eating contest didn’t already catch your attention.

Moonlight Fishing Castaic

Going fishing with your kids is always a good way to spend time together away from screens and distractions, plus you can flash back to the Andy Griffin show’s opening credits. But what if you could do all of that AND up your game a little?

This Saturday and Sunday you can go Moonlight Fishing at Castaic Lake. Explore fishing in the lake at night. Just make sure to bring your own glow stick and follow the regular rules for boating. It’s only $6 pp plus the normal entrance and launch fees, starting at 8pm with a launch deadline of 10pm.

p.s. The pond they shot that famous Andy Griffith show opening at isn’t too far away-just a jaunt to Franklin Canyon Park off of Coldwater Canyon and Mulholland Drive.

Visit the Gentle Barn (Sundays Only)

Sometimes the words “gentle” and “kids” don’t go together, but there is a place that can bring a whole bunch of gentle to your family: The Gentle Barn in Santa Clarita. It’s only open to the public on Sundays from 10-2, but it gives your kids a chance to get up close with rescue farm animals like cows, pigs, sheep, llamas, horses, and more.

They allow visitors in groups on the hour and there is a $10 suggested donation, but it’s a cool chance to have a unique experience and get to know this organization that calls The Gentle Barn “a place to remind people and animals that they matter”. Visit Gentle Barn’s website for details, click here.

Kid-Co Grand Opening

When you find a safe, entertaining, and air-conditioned place to take your children to play, it’s like hitting a gold mine. Now you can check out Kid-Co, Santa Clarita’s newest indoor play area, at their open house on Saturday, September 6th, and it’s going to be a great party!

Crafts, Photo Booth, Music, Raffles, and Playtime are all available for FREE to the first 87 people in line with discount admission given to numbers 88 and higher. It starts at 10 am and you need to wear socks (honestly, you should do that anyways, ‘cause…ewww).

They even have free Wi-Fi! Working parents, rejoice.
