SCV Buzz – Family Fun Activities In Santa Clarita – September 17, 2014

The record temperatures of this week may have done a number on your disposition…and your blow-out. But the weekend is supposed to be a little cooler, so why not shake out that ‘do and get outside with your kids?

Here are my top 5 local Santa Clarita familu-fun activities for this weekend:

SCV Day for Kids

It’s Saturday, you have all slept in (as much as you ever can…), and even watched a little TV or played some games. NOW WHAT DO YOU DO? How about giving your children a whole day that is just about them and taking them to a free day of fun, the SCV Day for Kids!SCV Buzz - Family Fun Activities In Santa Clarita - September 17, 2014

The carnival themed activity is happening on Saturday, September 20th, from noon to 5 pm at Newhall Park. Rides, games, activities, raffles, and even free food will be provided all with the intention of your kids having a blast.

That may even keep the whining to a minimum! For Saturday… at least…

River Rally Cleanup and Environmental Expo

Is the only thing “green” happening at your house watching Kermit the Frog in Muppets Most Wanted (again)? All Santa Clarita families benefit from our beautiful Santa Clara River and this Saturday the 20th from 8-11 am; you can help keep it beautiful and thriving at the Green Santa Clarita River Rally.

It’s at Wiley Canyon Road off the Via Princessa Bridge, and residents old and young alike can help pick up trash and support a greener environment. You do have to register but it’s easy at greensantaclarita.com. So go and help make our city better for everyone!

You didn’t want to watch that movie again anyways.

SCV Buzz - Family Fun Activities In Santa Clarita - September 17, 2014Prehistoric Paint Happenings at Hart

The ”Happenin’s at Hart” program is always great for K-5th graders, and this week they are having a Prehistoric Paint event from 3:30-5 at the Hart Park Picnic area.

This free and potentially messy event will give your kids a chance to adventure into prehistoric paint making and have them use their concoction to paint images on set up cave walls. Just make sure they wash up afterwards, you probably don’t want hieroglyphics on the inside of your SUV reading “Help! Send more goldfish crackers and a battery charger for my iPad!

Up with Birds Walk at Towsley Canyon

For the bird lovers, or just nature lovers who want a fun and simple Saturday morning family adventure, you can join up with the Towsley Canyon “Up With the Birds” walk. September 20th at 8 am you can beat the heat with your family and check out how bird families interact and prepare for fall.

Meet at Towsley Canyon’s front parking lot and bring binoculars if you have them. You can find out if bird families also threaten to “turn this nest around and go home” when they have problems.

Love a Fair at Agua Dulce

Many people “Love a Parade”, but even more “Love a Fair and a Parade”! So visit the “Love-A-Fair” and Parade on September 20th from 4pm to Midnight at the Agua Dulce Women’s Club.

They have great and somewhat odd sounding events like the Jalapeno Holler, Cake Walk, Chicken Poop Checkers, and…Cornhole. No comment on the names… but whatever you call it, it sounds like a fun adventure! And isn’t that it what family time is all about? Well, that and the almost survivalist-type challenge of not sleeping for several years.
