SCV Historical Society Accepts Eagle Scout Project

The Santa Clarita Valley Historical Society will accept the finished product of an Eagle Scout project from Richard Courtney.

This presentation will take place Tuesday, November 23, at 10:00 a.m. at the Saugus Train Station.  The project is a video kiosk, complete with monitor, VHS and DVD players.  Volunteer labor from scouts and adults was used to build the kiosk and stanchions which were constructed from wood and hardware donated by local businesses.  The kiosk can be used for video presentations that the society may exhibit to museum visitors or at meetings. It will also be used to show history videos that it would like to display to the public.

Richard Courtney, or Ricky as he is typically known, is 17 years old and currently a Life Scout, working on achieving Eagle Scout rank, with Troop 58 in Canyon Country.  While at Valencia High School he became interested in the school’s daily live news show called VTV and eventually became a VTV producer.  Ricky took video production classes and was able to create pro-quality work like the documentaries he will be giving the society.  He graduated with double honors from Valencia High in 2005.  He is currently a freshman at College of the Canyons.

“In our fast paced times, this medium makes it easy to bring information quickly to the audience.  It makes visual impact that can’t be matched by the limited things that can be seen at any given time in a static museum.  It can be used to highlight topics that get only brief mention in our display or are of special interest to our visitors.  In this season for thankfulness, the Santa Clarita Valley Historical Society wants to thank Richard for choosing this project to benefit our efforts to inform people about our history,” said Pat Saletore, Executive Director of the Santa Clarita Valley Historical Society.
