The SCV Senior Center’s sixth annual “Touch a Truck” event gave Santa Clarita residents an opportunity to get up close and personal with various kinds of vehicles Saturday, including fire trucks, garbage trucks and police vehicles.

Hundreds of people came to Central Park Saturday morning for the annual family-friendly event, which allowed residents to see large service vehicles up close and talk to the people who operate them.
Event organizers stated that the Touch A Truck event returns on a yearly basis because it remains a “favorite” for many Santa Clarita residents.
“There are tons of awesome trucks: construction rigs, fire engines, sheriff’s cars, military vehicles, film industry vehicles and more,” reads a statement on the Santa Clarita Community Calendar.
The event gave children the opportunity to climb inside the large vehicles that most residents usually do not have the chance to see, according to Jennifer DeHaven, coordinator of operations for the SCV Senior Center.
“It’s a lot of fun,” DeHaven said. “It’s great to watch the kids light up when they get to see the different kinds of vehicles and talk to the people and get up close to the trucks.”
The event also featured several games and activities for children of all ages, including an inflatable obstacle course, a slide and a special appearance by Bugs Bunny from Six Flags.
Proceeds from the event are set to support the SCV Senior Center, and the various programs that the center offers.
“The event is a way for the Senior Center to give back to the community and thank them for their support,” DeHaven said.
