KHTS 4th Annual SCV Home & Garden Show
When:  Saturday, April 27 from 9am-5pm and Sunday, April 28 from 10am-4pm
Where:  Hyatt Regency Valencia, 24500 Town Center Drive at McBean Parkway
Details:  The KHTS 4th Annual SCV Home & Garden Show and Emergency Expo are coming back to town.  The Home & Garden show is a two-day event featuring free admission, free parking, a wide-variety of exhibitors, drawings, special offers and freebies, presentation and demonstrations, RV show, Kid’s Zone and more.  Take part in the PassPort program to win prizes.  On Saturday the KHTS Emergency Expo, in cooperation with the City of Santa Clarita  and Henry Mayo Newhall Memorial Hospital  will take place in the parking lot.  The Emergency Expo will have over 60 exhibitors with products, services and information on emergency prevention, preparedness, survival and recovery.  The Expo will have emergency vehicles and equipment from fire departments, law enforcement, search & rescue groups, and utility companies.  The Expo will also feature drills, demonstrations and presentation.  This show is a KHTS AM-1220 event in conjunction with High Impact Event Resources.  A full list of participants is available online.   More information is available by calling 661-298-1220 or SCVHomeandGarden.com

Details:  At the Repertory East Playhouse “Hollywood and Broadway will intersect in a magical evening featuring some of the greatest songs from the beloved works of Stephen Schwartz and Stephen Sondheim”.   The evening begins with a cocktail reception in the Hydeaway Lounge.  This REP fundraiser will have silent auctions with items such as Dodger tickets, Disneyland tickets and golf outings.  Tickets are $35 for reserved seating.  Attire is black tie optional.   Tickets are available by calling 661-288-000 or online.

SCVi Charter School “Castaic 5K Run/Walk”
When:  Sunday, April 28 starting at 8:15am
Where:  Castaic Lake
Details:  SCVi and the Castaic Town Council have combined fitness and fundraising for SCVi Charter School For International Learning.  The Castaic 5K Run/Walk is an fun event for your entire family.  It  is a beautiful run or walk around the lake that finished with a pancake breakfast.  The fundraising effort will benefit the school.  Registration forms are available online.

Details:  Come to a Texas Hold ‘Em Tournament to benefit the Michael Hoefflin Foundation for Children’s Cancer.  Registration/check-in starts at 10:30am.  The Tournament begins at 12:30pm.  There will be cash prizes totaling $10,000.  Extra $2,000 in chips for anyone signed in by 11:30am.  Entry fee is $125.  There will be a complimentary buffet for all tournament players.

SCV Youth Renaissance Faire

Details:  MonticelloPrep School is holding SCV Youth Renaissance Faire.  There will be professional actors will portray William Shakespeare and Queen Elizabeth.  World class magician, Lincoln Bond, will perform.  There will be a Shakespearean monologue or sonnet contest for ages 7-16.  There will be kid friendly activities like crafts, face painting, Maypole dancing, and Renaissance style games.  Prizes will be awarded for best renaissance costumes. The Monticello Prep School Shakespearean Acting Troupe will present a kid friendly version of “A Midsummer’s Night Dream” and “Mr. Shakespeare’s PoetryGarden.”  Admission is $2.00.

Santa Clarita Dodger Day

SCAA “Spring Art Festival”

Details: The Santa Clarita Artist Association is holding their Spring Art Festival and Sale.  The event is one day only and free to the public.  Approximately 30 artists will be represented with their original works.  Brunch or lunch at the restaurant will be available at a 15% discount.  More information can be found online.  

Children’s Dental Health “Wild West Dinner”

Cystic Fibrosis Foundation “Great Strides”

Where:  Westfield Valencia Town Center
Details:  The Cystic Fibrosis Foundation is holding their fundraising event, Great Strides: Taking Steps to Cure Cystic Fibrosis.  Join a team or form a team, or donate to this great cause.  Registration begins at 9am and the three-lap walk around the mall begins at 10am.  There will be music, food, raffles and entertainment after the walk.  For more information on Great Strides and Cystic Fibrosis call 323-939-0758.

SCV Historical Society – Lecture Series

COC Speakers Symposium Series:  Presentation by Nobel Laureate

Details:  The College of the Canyons Mathematics, Sciences & Engineering (MSE) Division will host 2005 Nobel Laureate Dr. Robert H. Grubbs.  Grubbs’ 60-minute symposium “Fundamental Research to Commercial Products: Applications of Olefin Metathesis Catalysts” will mark the conclusion of the MSE Speakers Symposium Series.  After Grubbs’ presentation, there will be an open forum discussion, which will allow audience members to ask questions and interact with the speaker. The presentation is free and open to the public.  For more information call 661-362-3135.

SCV Man & Woman of the Year Dinner

Details:  The 47th Annual Santa Clarita Valley Man & Woman of the Year dinner is the premier volunteer recognition event.  The purpose of the event is to honor men and women who have given outstanding volunteer service to the Santa Clarita Valley area.  The committee selecting the winners is comprised of previous honorees.  Tickets and more information are available online.  

California Strawberry Festival – tickets

Ice Station Valencia – Registration for Summer Camp

Where:  Ice Station Valencia, 27745 North Smyth Drive, Valencia (across from Valencia High)
Details:  Ice Station Valencia has the Coolest Camp in Santa Clarita.  Kidtastic runs from June 17-August 9, Monday through Friday.  Kidtastic offers ice skating lessons, crafts and games.  Polar Bears (ages 7-12) and Penguins (ages 4-6) participate in broomball, introduction to speed skating and hockey, play in the snow, and more.  Every Friday, both Penguins and Polar Bears compete in Ice Station Valencia Winter Olympics.  For more information call 661-775-8686 or online
