SCV Education Foundation “Last Sip of Summer”
When:  Sunday, August 11 from 3-6pm
Where:  Robinson Ranch, 27734 Sand Canyon, Canyon Country 
Details:  The SCV Education Foundation is holding the “Last Sip of Summer”.  The event promises to be a “delightful and relaxing afternoon as we sample unique wines and hand-crafted beers, enjoy light snacks, and listen to the sounds of Jonny B. & The Goods featuring Jonathan LaFrance.”  There will be prizes and a “putt for prizes” competition.  The Beer Garden will be provided by Wolf Creek Restaurant & Brewing Company.  More information is available by calling 661-414-4465, emailing info@scveducationfoundation.org or online

Santa Clarita Regional Theatre “Les Miserables”
When:  Saturday at 8pm on: August 10; Sunday at 2pm on: August 11
Where:  Santa Clarita Performing Arts Center , 26455 Rockwell Canyon Road, on the COC Valencia campus
Details:  Santa Clarita Regional Theatre has the international smash-hit musical “Les Miserable”.  “Epic, grand and uplifting, Les Miserables packs an emotional wallop that has thrilled audiences for over 27 years.”  Tickets are $12-$29 depending on seat location.  Tickets are available by calling the Santa Clarita Regional Theatre box office at the Canyon Theatre Guild at 799-2702. Green Convergence – “Opening Solar Design Center”
When:  Saturday, August 10 from 1-6pm
Where:  Green Convergence, 28490 Westinghouse Place – off Newhall Ranch Road near where the I-5 and Highway 126 meet
Details:  Mark Figearo of Green Convergence is opening their Solar Design Center.  They will have a live entertainment.  Kona Ice will be serving their shave ice.  Green Convergence is a local business that has long been involved in community events and local school activities.  Come learn how you can save on electricity bills at the new Solar Design Center.  Mark Figearo knows you will be amazed.  Read more on the KHTS website.

Repertory East Playhouse “9-5: the Musical”
When:  now through August 17 – Fridays and Saturdays at 8pm, Sunday Matinees at 2pm
Where:  Repertory East Playhouse, 24266 Main Street, Old Town Newhall
Details:  The Repertory East Playhouse  brings us “9-5: the Musical” based on the 1980s movie.  The book was written by Patricia Resnick.  Music and lyrics for the musical were written by Dolly Parton.  The show centers on the friendship of three women who work in the same large corporation. Run To The Pines

Canyon Theatre Guild “Why Do Fools Fall In Love?”
When: Fridays and Saturdays at 8pm:  August 3, 10, 16, 17, 23 and 24;  Sundays at 2pm:  August 4, 11, 18 and 25
Where:  Canyon Theatre Guild, 24242 Main Street, Old Town Newhall
Details:  Canyon Theatre Guild has the ‘rockin’ 60s bachelorette musical’ “Why Do Fools Fall In Love?”.  “Sally, Florence and Dee Dee show up unannounced (food and wine in hand) for an impromptu bachelorette party to celebrate Millie’s upcoming nuptials.”    As the play continues we view life in the 60s with classic songs such as, My Boy Lollipop, I Will Follow Him, You Don’t Have To Say You Love Me, Hey There Lonely Boy, Why Do Fools Fall In Love, and many more.  Tickets are $15 to $17 for juniors and seniors and $17 to $19 for adults.  Tickets are available by calling 661-799-2702.  More information and directions are available online.  

Concerts In The Park

Where:  Central Park, 27150 Bouquet Canyon Road, Saugus
Details:  The City of Santa Clarita is has us back into the full swing of summer with the popular free concert series “Concerts In The Park”.  This week’s concert of the summer is the tribute band “Boogie Knights”.  Boogie Knights is the ultimate disco revival band.  “The show comes complete with choreography, polyester, afros, bell bottoms and crazy humor.  Break out your dancing shoes and come join the fun…when the Bookie Knights are in town it’s time to get down!”  Directions, rules of the park and more information are available online

Santa Clarita Marriage and Family Conference
When:  Saturday, August 10 from 8:30am to 12:30pm
Where:  The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, 24443 McBean Parkway, Valencia
Details:  All are invited to the 1st Annual SCV Marriage and Family Conference sponsored by The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints.  This event is a free event but requires pre-registration.  These classes and more will be offered: Family Finances, Overcoming Bad Habits, and Protecting Family Privacy in an Internet World.  Check-in begins at 8am with light refreshments being served.  Dress is casual.  To pre-register online.    More information is available by calling 661-259-6963 or emailing bdwlalaw@yahoo.com or online.  

SCV Food Pantry Food Drive
When:  now through August
Where:  seven local city facilities and directly at the Santa Clarita Valley Food Pantry
Details: The City of Santa Clarita and the SCV Food Pantry have partnered for their Fifth Annual Food Drive.  Items most needed: tuna, peanut butter, canned meats, fruit, canned tomatoes, dried soups, cereal, mac & cheese, shampoo, tooth paste, toothbrushes, deodorant, bar soap, diapers and feminine hygiene products.  Summer strains the resources of the Food Pantry with children being home from school.  The Food Pantry is located at 24133 Railroad Avenue in Newhall.  Non-perishable donations can be made from 9am to noon every Monday through Thursday.  Collection bins for non-perishable food donations have been set up at:  City Hall, the SC Sports Complex, the Transit Maintenance Facility, Central Park, Old Town Newhall Library, Valencia Library, and JoAnne Darcy Library in Canyon Country.  Read more in a story on the KTHS website.

Summer Hair Fun With “Extensions of Love”

Where:  Beyond The Fringe Salon, 23424 Lyons Avenue, Newhall

City of Santa Clarita “Let’s Go To The Beach!”
When:  Every Saturday and Sunday now through September 1
Where:  From Santa Clarita to Santa Monica Beach
Details:  The City of Santa Clarita has the “Let’s go to the beach!” program again this summer.  There are Santa Clarita Transit buses that go from four different locations around the valley. Ride to the beach with ease on the City’s comfortable, air-conditioned commuter express buses.  You can bring beach chairs, coolers and even surfboards.  You could make plans to spend Saturday night in Santa Monica then take the bus back the next day.  Bus fares are $3.00 each way for children and adults.  Seniors over age 60 and persons with disabilities pay $1.50 each way and persons with disabilities.  Exact cash or TAP cards only.  Persons under age 12 must be accompanied by an adult.  Unaccompanied minors must bring valid school ID to verify age.  For large group accommodations, please call at least five business days in advance.  More information on routes, pick-up location and more is available by calling 294-1BUS or online.

Academy Swim Club – Swim Lessons

Where:  Academy Swim Club, 28079 Smyth Drive, Valencia
Details:  Academy Swim Club has swim lessons for kids of all ages.  The kids learn in a heated pool while parents can watch from an air-conditioned viewing area.  Academy Swim Club has lessons available for small groups, semi-private or private for ages two weeks through adults.  There is ‘open’ swim practice time for all students.  All lessons are guaranteed.  Keep your kids safe around water by signing them up for swim lessons.  More information is available by calling 702-8585 or online.

Antelope Valley Fair

Where:  Antelope Valley Fair, 2551 W. Avenue H, Enter Gate 1, Lancaster
Details:  The Antelope Valley Fair will be celebrating 75 years with “Diamonds Are FAIRever”.  The Antelope Valley Fair has all the conventional events associated with a county fair plus so much more.  There will be Livestock, Farm & Garden, Home Arts, Junior Livestock and Open Livestock events. The tradition of Rural Olympic has local community members participating in events such as tractor pulls and hay baling contests.  There will be fair vendors, carnival rides and mouth-watering food.  The concert lineup includes:  Darius Ricker and special guest Ann Marie, Foreigner with special guest Caitlin Crosby, Banda El Recodo/Banda Los Recoditos, Sheryl Crow and Weston Burt, George Thorogood & The Destroyers & Buddy Guy with special guest Quinn Sullivan, Whitesnake/Queensryche starring Geoff Tate.  The Arena Events include: Figure 8 Race, Monster Trucks, Rural Olympics & Fireworks, and Demolition Derby.  Tickets are available online.    Read a story on the concert band on the KHTS website.  More information on tickets and the fair are available online

Circle of Hope “Vine2Wine Classic”
When:  Saturday, August 17 from 6:30-10:30pm
Where:  California Institute of the Arts, Main Gallery, 24700 McBean Parkway, Valencia
Details: The 12th Annual Circle of Hope  “Vine2Wine Classic” is a much anticipated event.  The Classic features “unlimited tastings of several hundred upscale wines poured by dozens of outstanding wineries and by donors or fabulous and rare, older, “library wines” from their personal cellars.”  The Beer Garden has unlimited tastings of over a dozen craft brews.  The evening includes dinner and live entertainment.    This year there will be a raffle of expensive, rare and desirable wines, a silent auction of current and older vintages of wine, and much more.  100% of the funds raised benefit Circle of Hope assists uninsured and underinsured breast cancer patients and their families in the Santa Clarita Valley with financial, emotional and educational support services. Carousel Ranch “Heart Of The West” – RSVP by August 15

Details:  Join Carousel Ranch  in their premier fundraiser “Heart of the West”.  Carousel Ranch is a non-profit providing developmental, therapeutic and recreational programs for disabled and disadvantaged children through horses.  Enjoy dinner under the stars while making a huge impact on a child’s life.  As highest bidder in the auction, know that not only will you win but a child does as well.  Every ticket purchased, every donation made goes directly towards a child’s therapy.  It will be a memorable night with dinner, auction and children’s demonstrations.  Tickets for VIP seating is $175 each and General seating is $85.  Please RSVP before August 15.  More information and tickets are available by calling 661-268-8010 or online.

Rancho Camulos “Ramona Days”

Where: Rancho Camulos Museum and National Historic Landmark, 10 miles west on the 126 (from the I-5)
Details:  Ranch Camulos “where the history, myth and romance of Old California still lingers” is again holding “Ramona Days” to celebrate all things related to “Ramona”, the famous 19th century Helen Hunt Jackson California novel.  Rancho Camulos is known as the Home of Ramona because it is the setting for the popular novel that expands on the Californio mission and rancho history. The 1910 silent movie “Ramona” starring Mary Pickford was in part filed at Rancho Camulos. Ramona Days celebrates with Ramona Play scene re-enactments, music, tours, traditional and Flamenco dancing, food and fun for everyone in the family.  Children have a wide variety of activities including face painting, crafts, citrus art, adobe brick making, tortilla making, steer roping, performance art and reading corner.  More information and tickets are available by calling 805-521-1501 or online.                                  

5th Annual Youth Sports Festival

HMNMH “Care For Your Heart” Health Fair

Where:  Santa Clarita Community Center, 22421 Market Street, Newhall
Details:  Henry Mayo Newhall Memorial Hospital is holding “Care For Your Heart” Health Fair, a free community event.  The health fair will have free health education materials, and nutrition and smoking cessation information.  The fair will also have health screening, including: blood pressure monitoring, height and weight analysis, body fat analysis, oxygen saturation and carbon monoxide measurement, cholesterol test (12-hour fasting recommended), glucose test (12-hour fasting recommended), and stroke education.  Spanish speaking materials and translators will be available.  More information is available by calling 661-200-1306 or online.
