Valencia KIA “Santa Clarita Hot Import Car Show”
When:  Saturday, August 3 from 12-7pm
Where:  College of the Canyons Valencia Campus, parking lot
Details:  Valencia KIA is hosting their first annual “Santa Clarita Hot Import Car Show” and competition.  Residents can register and bring in their import car(s) for competition.   To round out the event there will be food vendors, live music and prizes.  Read more in a story on the KHTS website.  Register online.  

Real Life Church “Community Expo”
When:  Saturday, August 3 from 1-4pm
Where:  Savia, 23780 Newhall Avenue, Newhall – inside the Stagecoach Plaza at the corner of Newhall Avenue and Carl Court
Details:  Real Life Church  is hosting a free “Community Expo” at Savia, the church’s community partnership.  Savia is a Spanish word that translates as “energy, vitality or lifeblood”.  Real Life Church created Savia: A Community Partnership as a place of “energy, vitality or lifeblood” for our local community.  The Community Expo will feature over 20 artisan vendors will be selling arts & crafts, jewelry and apparel.  The event will also see the grand opening of Artisan Java & Juice, a non-profit store inside Savia offering free samples of fresh cold-pressed juices.  Free backpacks will be handed out to local children as part of a special “Back(pack) to School” giveaway (while supplies last).  Read more on the event in a story on the KHTS website.

Santa Clarita Regional Theatre “Les Miserables”
When:  Saturdays at 8pm on: August 3, 10; Sundays at 2pm on: August 4, 11
Where:  Santa Clarita Performing Arts Center , 26455 Rockwell Canyon Road, on the COC Valencia campus
Details:  Santa Clarita Regional Theatre has the international smash-hit musical “Les Miserable”.  “Epic, grand and uplifting, Les Miserables packs an emotional wallop that has thrilled audiences for over 27 years.”  Tickets are $12-$29 depending on seat location.  Tickets are available by calling the Santa Clarita Regional Theatre box office at the Canyon Theatre Guild at 799-2702. Repertory East Playhouse “9-5: the Musical”
When:  now through August 17 – Fridays and Saturdays at 8pm, Sunday Matinees at 2pm
Where:  Repertory East Playhouse, 24266 Main Street, Old Town Newhall
Details:  The Repertory East Playhouse  brings us “9-5: the Musical” based on the 1980s movie.  The book was written by Patricia Resnick.  Music and lyrics for the musical were written by Dolly Parton.  The show centers on the friendship of three women who work in the same large corporation. They are pushed over the edge by their sexist, egotistical, lying boss. “Working 9-5, what a way to make a living.”  More information and tickets are available by calling 288-0000 or online

Concerts In The Park

Where:  Central Park, 27150 Bouquet Canyon Road, Saugus
Details:  The City of Santa Clarita is bringing back the popular free concert series “Concerts In The Park”.  This week’s concert of the summer is the tribute band “Incendio”.  “For the last 12 years, this Latin-guitar group has recorded seven internationally acclaimed CDs and performed in over 150 shows a year across the U.S. on the strength of their energetic show.  They first performed at Santa Clarita Concerts in the park three years ago.”  Directions, rules of the park and more information are available online

Canyon Theatre Guild “Why Do Fools Fall In Love?”
When: Fridays and Saturdays at 8pm:  August 3, 10, 16, 17, 23 and 24;  Sundays at 2pm:  August 4, 11, 18 and 25
Where:  Canyon Theatre Guild, 24242 Main Street, Old Town Newhall
Details:  Canyon Theatre Guild has the ‘rockin’ 60s bachelorette musical’ “Why Do Fools Fall In Love?”.  “Sally, Florence and Dee Dee show up unannounced (food and wine in hand) for an impromptu bachelorette party to celebrate Millie’s upcoming nuptials.”    As the play continues we view life in the 60s with classic songs such as, My Boy Lollipop, I Will Follow Him, You Don’t Have To Say You Love Me, Hey There Lonely Boy, Why Do Fools Fall In Love, and many more.  Tickets are $15 to $17 for juniors and seniors and $17 to $19 for adults.  Tickets are available by calling 661-799-2702.  More information and directions are available online.  http://www.canyontheatre.org/

“SummerFest – Hair, The American Tribal Love-Rock Musical”
When:  Thursday, August 1; and Friday, August 2 – shows at 8pm     
Where:  Rivendale at Towsley Canyon, 24255 The Old Road, Santa Clarita
Details:  Enjoy Shakespeare, music and/or theatre under the stars of Rivendale at Towsley Canyon all summer long.  Previous summers saw the Santa Clarita Shakespeare Festival producing weekend performances.  This year they have expanded the festival to include other local groups.  The Festival is now called “L.A. SummerFest at Rivendale”.  The summer line up will include free and ticketed events:  Henry IV, Spare Tone-Smooth Jazz Under the Stars, Hair-The American Tribal Love-Rock Musical, SCV Concert Band performing Billy Shakespeare vs Billy Joel, and more.  Next up is the “Hair, The American Tribal Love-Rock Musical”.  Bring chairs and/or blankets, picnics or snacks, and a sweater or jacket (the canyon cools after the sun goes down).  Wine will be available at all events.  Donations will be accepted and appreciated.  Tickets are required for this event.  More information, directions and ticket information (including a half-price offer) is available online

SCV Food Pantry Food Drive
When:  now through August
Where:  seven local city facilities and directly at the Santa Clarita Valley Food Pantry
Details: The City of Santa Clarita and the SCV Food Pantry have partnered for their Fifth Annual Food Drive.  Items most needed: tuna, peanut butter, canned meats, fruit, canned tomatoes, dried soups, cereal, mac & cheese, shampoo, tooth paste, toothbrushes, deodorant, bar soap, diapers and feminine hygiene products.  Summer strains the resources of the Food Pantry with children being home from school.  The Food Pantry is located at 24133 Railroad Avenue in Newhall.  Non-perishable donations can be made from 9am to noon every Monday through Thursday.  Collection bins for non-perishable food donations have been set up at:  City Hall, the SC Sports Complex, the Transit Maintenance Facility, Central Park, Old Town Newhall Library, Valencia Library, and JoAnne Darcy Library in Canyon Country.  Read more in a story on the KTHS website.   

COC Foundation Golf Tournament
When:  Monday, August 5 at 7:30am for registration

Details:  Golfers are invited to “Swing for Scholarships” at the College of the Canyons Foundation’s 23rd Annual Golf Tournament.  Proceeds for the event will support College of the Canyons scholarships and other support programs.  More information is available online.

Summer Hair Fun With “Extensions of Love”

Where:  Beyond The Fringe Salon, 23424 Lyons Avenue, Newhall

City of Santa Clarita “Let’s Go To The Beach!”
When:  Every Saturday and Sunday now through September 1
Where:  From Santa Clarita to Santa Monica Beach
Details:  The City of Santa Clarita has the “Let’s go to the beach!” program again this summer.  There are Santa Clarita Transit buses that go from four different locations around the valley. Ride to the beach with ease on the City’s comfortable, air-conditioned commuter express buses.  You can bring beach chairs, coolers and even surfboards.  You could make plans to spend Saturday night in Santa Monica then take the bus back the next day.  Bus fares are $3.00 each way for children and adults.  Seniors over age 60 and persons with disabilities pay $1.50 each way and persons with disabilities.  Exact cash or TAP cards only.  Persons under age 12 must be accompanied by an adult.  Unaccompanied minors must bring valid school ID to verify age.  For large group accommodations, please call at least five business days in advance.  More information on routes, pick-up location and more is available by calling 294-1BUS or online.

Academy Swim Club – Swim Lessons

Where:  Academy Swim Club, 28079 Smyth Drive, Valencia
Details:  Academy Swim Club has swim lessons for kids of all ages.  The kids learn in a heated pool while parents can watch from an air-conditioned viewing area.  Academy Swim Club has lessons available for small groups, semi-private or private for ages two weeks through adults.  There is ‘open’ swim practice time for all students.  All lessons are guaranteed.  Keep your kids safe around water by signing them up for swim lessons.  More information is available by calling 702-8585 or online.

Antelope Valley Fair

Where:  Antelope Valley Fair, 2551 W. Avenue H, Enter Gate 1, Lancaster
Details:  The Antelope Valley Fair will be celebrating 75 years with “Diamonds Are FAIRever”.  The Antelope Valley Fair has all the conventional events associated with a county fair plus so much more.  There will be Livestock, Farm & Garden, Home Arts, Junior Livestock and Open Livestock events. The tradition of Rural Olympic has local community members participating in events such as tractor pulls and hay baling contests.  There will be fair vendors, carnival rides and mouth-watering food.  The concert lineup includes:  Darius Ricker and special guest Ann Marie, Foreigner with special guest Caitlin Crosby, Banda El Recodo/Banda Los Recoditos, Sheryl Crow and Weston Burt, George Thorogood & The Destroyers & Buddy Guy with special guest Quinn Sullivan, Whitesnake/Queensryche starring Geoff Tate.  The Arena Events include: Figure 8 Race, Monster Trucks, Rural Olympics & Fireworks, and Demolition Derby.  Tickets are available online.    Read a story on the concert band on the KHTS website.  More information on tickets and the fair are available online

Circle of Hope “Vine2Wine Classic”
When:  Saturday, August 17 from 6:30-10:30pm
Where:  California Institute of the Arts, Main Gallery, 24700 McBean Parkway, Valencia
Details: The 12th Annual Circle of Hope  “Vine2Wine Classic” is a much anticipated event.  The Classic features “unlimited tastings of several hundred upscale wines poured by dozens of outstanding wineries and by donors or fabulous and rare, older, “library wines” from their personal cellars.”  The Beer Garden has unlimited tastings of over a dozen craft brews.  The evening includes dinner and live entertainment.    This year there will be a raffle of expensive, rare and desirable wines, a silent auction of current and older vintages of wine, and much more.  100% of the funds raised benefit Circle of Hope assists uninsured and underinsured breast cancer patients and their families in the Santa Clarita Valley with financial, emotional and educational support services. Participants must be age 21 years and over.  KHTS is selling tickets for the event.  Tickets are $75 if purchased in advance or $95 at the door.  For tickets call KHTS at 661-298-1220.  More information on Vine2Wine Classic is available online.
