Grace Baptist “Marriage Conference With Paul David Tripp”

When:  Friday, November 15 from 7-9:15pm and Saturday, November 16 from 9am-12:15pm
Where:  Grace Baptist Worship Center, 22833 Copper Hill Drive, Santa Clarita
Details:  Grace Baptist is offering “Marriage Conference with Paul David Tripp – What Did You Expect?  Redeeming the Realities of Marriage.”  The conference is for singles and couples.  The cost is $12.50 per person.  Childcare is available for up to 6th grade.  More information, directions and registration are available by emailing corona.mayhugh@gracebaptist.org or online.  

Natural Wonders Fish & Pet Supplies “Customer Appreciation Day”

When:  Saturday, November 16 from 12-3pm
Where:  Natural Wonders Fish & Pet Supplies, 28017 Seco Canyon Road – at Copperhill
Details:  Natural Wonders Fish & Pet Supplies is holding a Customer Appreciation Day and KHTS will be there, too.  Stop by and say, “Hello”.  There will be a wide selection of your favorite dog and cat food, tropical fish and reptiles.  Take pictures of your kids with fun animals.  Win prizes. Valencia United Methodist “Fall Family Fest”

When:  Sunday, November 17 from 5-7pm
Where:  Valencia United Methodist, 25718 McBean Parkway – across from Henry Mayo Newhall Memorial Hospital
Details:  Valencia United Methodist is holding their “Fall Family Fest”.  “Come join us as we lift up and celebrate The Family”.  Enjoy a chili cook-off, prizes, chili dogs and s’mores.  The evening includes family worship, games and family crafts.  Admission is $5 per person or $20 max for a family.  Sign-ups can be done at the church office during the week.  More information is available by calling 661-255-1301 or email kmalchus@umcv.org or online.

Boys & Girls Club “Festival Of Trees”

When:  November 15 through November 24 – see special event days/dates below
Where:  Westfield Valencia Town Center – between The Patios and Sears on Valencia Boulevard
Details: Boys & Girls Club of Santa Clarita Valley is holding their premier event “Festival of Trees”.  Christmas trees, wreaths and table top trees are elaborately decorated and available for purchase.  There is a special section for gingerbread houses that are made by community members and awarded prizes before being offered for auction.  A Community Stage has local singers, musicians and dancers.  Santa will be available for photos.  Jingle Jam Swing  will be held Friday, November 15 from 7:15-10pm.  Jingle Jam Swing is a fun night of swing dancing, with an instructor giving free lessons.  Holiday Hocus Pocus an Evening of Magic takes place on Saturday, November 16 at 6pm and Friday, November 22 at 6pm.  The Holiday Hocus Pocus shows are an hour of close-up magic followed by a family friendly stage show that is fun for children and adults.  The Magic of Lights Gala takes place Saturday, November 23 from 6:30-11:30pm.  The dressy Gala features entertainment, a live auction of selected trees, appetizers, dessert and a no-host bar.  Read more in a story for KHTS by Michele Buttelman: Family-Friendly Festival of Trees Opens Friday At The Patios In Valencia

HandsOn Santa Clarita 5K/10K Run

When:  Sunday, November 17 starting at 6:30am for packet pick-up
Where:  Six Flags Magic Mountain
Details:  Be part of the first annual HandsOn Santa Clarita 5K/10K Run.  The run takes place on the grounds of Six Flags Magic Mountain. “Get a close up view of dozens of roller coasters as you run past all of the park’s main attractions, all for charity!”  The day starts at 6:30am for an hour of pack pick-up and vendor booths.  Opening ceremonies start at 7:40am.  The 5K starts at 8am and the 10K starts at 8:35am.  Each participant received a goody bag, a medal and shirt.  With each $30 donation you receive a ticket for a day at Six Flags.  In cooperation with the run, KHTS is selling half-price tickets to Six Flags Magic Mountain at the reduced price of $30 (that’s more than $35 off gate price).  The KHTS tickets can be used November 17 through Dec 29, 2013.  KHTS tickets are available by calling 661-298-1220 or shop online.  Proceeds will benefit HandsOn Santa Clarita.  More information and registration are available online.

Repertory East Playhouse “Play It Again, Sam”

When:  November 15 through December 14, Friday and Saturdays at 8pm, Sunday Matinees at 2pm
Where:  Repertory East Playhouse, 24266 Main Street in OldTown Newhall
Details:  Repertory East Playhouse has Woody Allen’s “Play It Again, Sam”.  “It’s still the same old story, a fight for love and glory.”  The play is about a recently divorced writer of film commentary that is being urged to date again by his best friend and his best friend’s wife.  Come an hour before the show and stop at The Hideaway Lounge featuring full-service cocktails.  Tickets are $25 for adults and $20 for students and seniors.  Tickets and information on the Opening Night Gala are available online


Lancaster Performing Arts Center “Uncle Kracker”

When:  Sunday, November 17 at 7pm
Where:  Lancaster Performing Arts Center, 750 W. Lancaster Boulevard, Lancaster

Santa Clarita Performing Arts Center “Rockapella – Motown & More”

When:  Sunday, November 17 at 7pm
Where:  Santa Clarita Performing Arts Center, 26455 Rockwell Canyon Road – on the COC Valencia campus
Details:  Santa Clarita Performing Arts Center has “one of the most sophisticated and lasting pop vocal groups” Rockapella.  “The little miracle that keeps the crowds coming back year after year and constantly draws new fans is Rockapella’s astonishing full-band sound: a sound that seems to be impossible coming from just five guys with microphones.”  Tickets are $40/$35/$30.  More information and tickets are available online.


Free Flu Clinic

When:  Friday, November 15 from 10am-2pm (while supplies last)
Where:  College of the Canyons Valencia Campus, off of Rockwell Canyon Road in Valencia
Details:  College of the Canyons, L.A. County Sheriff’s Department, and L.A. County Department of Public Health have again coordinated efforts for the eighth annual flu immunization Point of Dispending (POD).  The immunizations are free.  The flu clinic is part of POD tests of our community’s Cities Readiness Initiative response during a bioterrorism attack or potential pandemic.  The purpose of the plan is to treat an impacted, mass population with medications within a short time period.

Donate A Thanksgiving Dinner

When:  Now through Monday, November 25
Where:  KHTS, 27225 Camp Plenty Road, Suite 8 – at the intersection of Soledad Canyon
Details:  Be part of the “Donate a Thanksgiving Dinner” effort to collect 100 Thanksgiving meals for families at the Boys & Girls Club of Santa Clarita Valley and Single Mother’s Outreach.  KHTS has joined with Paul Davis Emergency Services, MIS Sciences Corporation and Westfield Valencia Town Center to coordinate efforts for this program.  You can help in one of two ways – or both.  When you are grocery shopping, buy extra items or pick up a grocery gift card.  Your donated items can be dropped off at KHTS.  Suggested items:  turkeys, cranberry sauce, yams, potatoes, bread rolls, canned vegetables, disposable pans, sparkling cider, vegetable oil, and stuffing.   View a flyer online.

Poker Tournament & Casino Night

Where:  Robinson Ranch Golf Club, 27734 Sand Canyon Road, Canyon Country
Details:  Have fun at the 2nd Annual Ricky Slocum Memorial Fund Poker Tournament & Casino Night.  Check in begins at 5pm.  The buffet dinner will be served from 5-6pm.  The Poker Tournament & Casino Night begins at 6pm.  Tickets are $100.  All proceeds will go towards helping veterans and military families in the Santa Clarita Valley.  Tickets are available online and through the mail (see website for details).  More information on the Poker Tournament & Casino Night is available  by calling 661-607-8288, 661-510-5361 or online

HMNMH “Care For Your Heart”

When:  Friday, November 15 from 7:30-10:30am
Where:  Santa Clarita Community Center, 22421 Market Street – near Newhall Metro station
Details:  In an ongoing effort to keep our community healthy, Henry Mayo Newhall Memorial Hospital is holding “Care For Your Heart” Health Fair.  The health fair offers free educational materials on nutrition, stroke education, and how to stop smoking.  There will be screening for blood pressure, height & weight analysis, body fat, and oxygen saturation & carbon monoxide measurement.  There will also be cholesterol testing and glucose testing for those that fast for 12 hours prior.  The health fair is open to the public and is free.  More information is available by calling 661-200-1306 or online.

 

Zonta LifeForward Workshop

When:  Saturday, October 19 from 10am-12:30pm
Where:  Savia Community Center, 23780 Newhall Avenue, Newhall
Details:  Zonta Club of Santa Clarita Valley  is holding a LifeForward “Avoid Holiday Stress” Workshop as part of their free workshop series.
