Run To The Pines Car Show 2014Run to the Pines Car Show 2014

Concerts In The Park

When:  Saturdays through August 30, concerts begin at 7pm

Canyon Theatre Guild “Shrek, The Musical”Shrek the Musical

When:  Saturday at 8pm: August 2, 9, 16, and 23; Sunday at 2pm: August 3, 10, 17, and 24
Where:   Santa Clarita Performing Arts Center on the College of the Canyons Valencia Campus, 26455 Rockwell Canyon Road, Valencia  
Details:  Canyon Theatre Guild is kicking off the 2014-2015 season with their Santa Clarita Regional Theatre performances of the family friendly and thoroughly hilarious “Shrek, the Musical.”  “Shrek, the Musical” based on the DreamWorks movie, comes to Santa Clarita.  The musical is a story that most families know and is presented in a new way “full of all-new songs, great dancing and breathtaking scenery.”  Tickets are $12-$29 depending on seat location.  Tickets are on sale at the Canyon Theatre Guild by calling 661-799-2702.  More information is available online

Santa Clarita Valley Search & Rescue “Informational & Recruitment”

When:  Thursday, August 7 from 5:50pm-8pm
Where:  Old Town Newhall Library, Community Room
Details:  Santa Clarita Valley Search & Rescue is holding an “Informational & Recruitment” event.  If you are interested in learning about the team or joining this elite group of volunteers, this informational event will answer all your questions.  The SCV Search & Rescue team assists the Sheriff’s Department in missing persons or injured/stranded hikers, cars over the side of the highway, persons stranded by swift water, snow and ice rescue, and lost skiers and avalanche recovery, to name a few.  Learn more by calling the Reserve Coordinator at the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station at 661-255-1121 or online

Canyon Theatre Guild presents Forever PlaidCanyon Theatre Guild “Forever Plaid”

Details:  Canyon Theatre Guild has the hilarious “Forever Plaid,” the “most popular and successful ‘jukebox’ musicals ever.”  “Forever Plaid” revolves around four 1950s male singers that are killed in a car crash on the way to their first big concert.  They are given the chance to “fulfill their dreams and perform the show that never was.”  You’ll want to croon along to songs from the show that includes: Heart & Soul, Sixteen Tons, Love Is A Many Splendored Things.  For tickets call the Canyon Theatre Guild Box Office at 661-799-2702.  More information is available online.  

City Of Santa Clarita “Art SLAM”

When: Thursday, August 7 from 7-10pm
Where:  Main Street, between Market Street and 6th Street, in Old Town Newhall
Details:  The City of Santa Clarita hosts “Art SLAM” every first Thursdays of the month.  “See the work of artists’ as they respond to a theme; develop interactive opportunities, large installations of art work, and gallery exhibits.”  The evening of art includes artists, photographers, models, designers, and musicians.  The culinary art will be well represented.  This month there will be an interactive “My Reason Wall” tattoo photography exhibit inviting everyone to take photos of their tattoos and explain the inspiration behind them.  Read more in an article on the KHTS website: Thursdays At Newhall Returns To Santa Clarita With New Themes.  More information is available online.  

Summer Movies At Hart Park

When:  Friday, August 8 at 7pm
Where:  William S. Hart Regional Park, 24151 Newhall Avenue, Newhall
Details:  Summer Movies at HartPark are back.  This week’s movie is “The Nut Job.”  This family free event is outdoor movie fun.  Bring your blankets, pillows and lawn chairs.  There will be pre-movie music, entertainment, and games.  Unleashed animals, smoking, and alcohol are prohibited in the park at all times.  The last movie in the series: The Wizard of Oz (1939 re-mastered) – August 22.  The movies are held by The County of Los Angeles Department of Parks and Recreation, in cooperation with The Friends of Hart Park.

SCV Senior Center “Country Western Hoedown Concert” 

When:  Thursday, August 7 from 3pm-4:30pm
Where:  SCV Senior Center, 22900 Market Street, Old Town Newhall
Details:  The Santa Clarita Senior Center is holding their “Country Western Hoedown Concert, Part II.”  “Saddle up and mosey on back for a medley of favorite tunes, including boot-stomping line dance melodies.”  Music will be performed by the SCV Senior Center Silvertones & Memory Maker Musicians.  Admission is free.  For more information call Robin at 661-259-9444 or email rclough@scv-seniorcenter.org.

LA SummerFest “Lullaby Of Broadway”LA SummerFest at Rivendale

Details:  Join in LA SummerFest’s “Lullaby of Broadway”. A special musical review featuring songs and dance from your favorite Broadway Hits. Hart Park “Silents Under The Stars”

When:  Saturday, August 9  at 6pm
Where:  William S. Hart Regional Park, Hart Hall, 24151 Newhall Avenue, Newhall
Details:  “Silents Under the Stars” is being hosted at Hart Park by the Friends of Hart Park in cooperation with the County of L.A. Department of Parks and Recreation and the William S. Hart Park Mansion & Museum.  This year’s movie is the 1921 silent movie, “White Oak” starring William S. Hart; with Vola Vale; Fritz, Hart’s pinto pony; and Hart’s wonder dog, Jeff. The movie will be accompanied on the keyboard, live, by Ray Lowe. There will be tours of the Hart Mansion and Museum and a Western BBQ dinner and dessert, plus life entertainment by “New West.”  Tickets are $50.  More information and tickets are available online.   

LA SummerFest “A Night At The Opera”

When:  Saturday, August 9 at 8 pm
Where:  Rivendale Park in Towsley Canyon, 24255 The Old Road, Newhall
Details:  LA SummerFest at Rivendale presents “A Night at the Opera”. Come and experience opera under the stars with “LA’s most exciting new opera company”. City Of Santa Clarita “Let’s Go To The Beach”

When:  Runs through Sunday, August 31
Where:  various locations throughout Santa Clarita
Details:  Grab your towel and sunscreen and had out to Santa Monica Beach, the easy way.  The City of Santa Clarita is again offering rides on air-conditioned commuter express buses.  Travelers can bring their beach chair, coolers and even surfboards.  Summer Beach Bus fares are $3 each way for children and adults, and $1.50 each way for Seniors and persons with disabilities.  Exact cash fares or TAP stored value only – no monthly passes accepted.  Those under 12 years must be accompanied by an adult.  Unaccompanied minors must bring valid school identification.  More information on routes and pickup locations, RSVP for large groups, bus etiquette, and more is available by calling 661-294-1BUS or online

Vibe Performing Arts Studios Karaoke Coaching & Open Mic Jam

When:  Friday, April 4 from 6:30-9:30pm
Where:  Vibe Performing Arts Studios, 24460-1/4 Lyons Avenue, Santa Clarita (near the 5 Freeway)
Details:  Vibe Performing Arts Studios is offering Karaoke Coaching and Open Mic Jam.  If you love to sing karaoke or would like to try, this is your chance to get some professional coaching.  Vibe instructor Brittney Westover will offer and print out tips for you to take home.  The tips will strengthen your mic and vocal technique, and your stage presence.  These mini lessons are $10 for the entire evening.  The Vibe café will serve up coffee and drinks, plus Bake You Happy desserts.  More information is available by calling 661-255-7464 or online.  

Justin Time Children’s House “Getting Along With Grief”

When:  Monday, March 10 from 7-8:30pm

Circle Of Hope “Vine 2 Wine” Circle of Hope Vine 2 Wine Classic
When:  Saturday, August 16 from 6:30-10:30pm
Where:  California Institute of the Arts, 24700 McBean Parkway, Valencia

Center Of The World – COW Festival
When: Friday, August 15 from 7:30pm-10pm; Saturday, August 16 from 1:30pm-7:30pm; Sunday, August 17 from 1pm-5pm

Details:  The 6th Annual Center of the World COW Festival will again be offering “celebration and competition” with folklore storytelling, short plays, and live music.  Friday brings the Opening Ceremonies, story-tellers, nature enthusiasts and others “bringing Native American legends, folklore, and info on local ecology and points of interest.”  Saturday is the Playwright Competition.  Sunday is Music, Songwriting Competition, Awards, and Closing Ceremonies.  In addition there will be guided nature walks on local trails.  More information, directions, and schedule are available online

Santa Clarita Ballet “Beauty And The Beast” Santa Clarita Ballet
When:  Saturday, September 13 at 7:30pm and Sunday, September 14 at 2pm
Where:  Santa Clarita Performing Arts Center on the COC Valencia Campus, 26455 Rockwell Canyon Road, Valencia 
Details:  The Santa Clarita Ballet has the production “Beauty and the Beast.”  “Beauty and the Beast” tells the romantic tale of a devoted daughter who lives with a hideous Beast to spare her father’s life.  But of course, love conquers all, Beauty’s trust and fondness grows, and the Beast’s cure is removed.  Santa Clarita Ballet company members and guest professional dancers will perform to the impressionistic themes of composers Ravel, Debussy and Faure.  Performances will be held at the Santa Clarita Performing Arts Center on the College of the Canyons Valencia Campus, though the tickets are available through Santa Clarita Ballet only.  Tickets are now on sale through Santa Clarita Ballet by coming into the studio on Oak Avenue during Box Office Hours: Monday, Tuesday, Thursday from 3-6pm; Wednesday from 4-6pm; and Saturday from 9:30am-1:30pm.  You may also call 661-251-0366 and leave a message and your call will be returned.  Learn more about Santa Clarita Ballet and tickets online

Youth Sports JetHawks DayLancaster JetHawks
When: Saturday, August 30 at 6 p.m.
Where: JetHawks Stadium “The Hanger”, 45116 Valley Central Way, Lancaster
Details: The City of Santa Clarita and the Lancaster JetHawks will be holding their 3rd Annual Youth Sports JetHawks Day. Tickets are $8 for Preferred Grandstand, $13 for Preferred Grandstand AND Sleepover. Each ticket purchased will be eligible for a raffle drawing to throw out the game’s first pitch.  Drawing for the first pitch will be held on Saturday, August 23, at 4:00 p.m. at the Youth Sports and Healthy Families Festival and the last day to purchase tickets is August 29th. Saugus High Class of 2004 Reunion
