Real Life Church “Leadercast”

Where:  Real Life Church, 23841 Newhall Ranch Road, between Grandview and McBean Parkway

College Of The Canyons Theatre “Rent”College Of The Canyons Theatre “Rent”

Where: Santa Clarita Performing Arts Center, COC Valencia Campus, 26455 Rockwell Canyon Road, Valencia
Details:  College of the Canyon Theatre will be performing the pop culture musical “Rent.”  “Set in the East Village of New York City, ‘Rent’ is about falling in love, finding your voice and living for today.”  The play portrays a year in the life of friends.  Tickets are $10/$5.  More information and tickets are available by calling 661-362-5304 or online.  

Castaic Lake Water Agency “Open House”

When:  Saturday, May 10 from 9am-2pm      Where: Castaic Lake Water Agency,
Details:  The Castaic Lake Water Agency is celebrating Water Awareness Month at their “Open House.”  There will be several free classes, including: Mini-Gardening Roses, Gardening by the Foot, Irrigation & Drought Tolerant Plants, and Smart Gardening.  A variety of vendors will be participating.   Children can enjoy face painting and the children’s show “H2O, Where Did You Go?” Stroll through the Conservatory Garden with its water-wise plantings of plants, flowers and grasses. Hit The Trail Community Bike Ride

When:  Saturday, May 10 from 10am-noon Where:   Bridgeport Park, 23520 Bridgeport Lane, Valencia
Details:  The City of Santa Clarita  is hosting the “Hit the Trail Community Bike Ride” presented by Total Financial Solutions.
“Bring the whole family and explore the City’s trail system with this guided non-competitive bicycle ride.”  Choose between a 10-mile route or a shorter 4-mile route.  The rides are free and open to everyone.  Each ride begins and ends at Bridgeport Park.  No registration required.  More information can be found online.    A flyer is also available online

Caregiver Resource Day

When:  Saturday, May 10 from 8:30am-1pm
Where:  College of the Canyons, Valencia Campus, 26455 Rockwell Canyon Road, Valencia 
Details:  The Santa Clarita Valley Senior Center  is hosting “Caregiver Resource Day.” The day is designed to give information and support to family members who are caring for a loved one.  There is a $10 registration fee that covers access to all sessions, vendors, resource materials, and a continental breakfast.  Seating is limited.  For more information call 661-259-9444.  

Providence Holy Cross “Stroke Awareness” 

When:  Monday, May 12 from 6-7:30pm
Where: Providence Holy Cross, 15031 Rinaldi Street – North Building Conference Rooms, Mission Hills

Details:  The Valley Industry Association is holding their premier business event B2B.  This industry show offers the business community a conference, panel discussion, and expo trade show.  There will be breakfast, luncheon speakers and networking.  The Opening Speaker is Noelia Rodrigues, chief communications officer for the L.A. County Metropolitan Transportation Authority.  Keynote Speaker is Jeffrey Cleveland, senior economist for Payden & Rygel. Placerita Canyon Nature Center “Open House”

Where: Placerita Canyon Nature Center, 19152 Placerita Canyon Road, Newhall
Details:  The Placerita Canyon Nature Center is holding their “Open House.” This year’s theme is “Amazing Arthropods.”  There will be fun activities for the entire family including: animal presentations, panning for Fool’s Gold, guided hikes, face painting, children’s crafts, and a treasure hunt.  Food and drink will be available for purchase. Lancaster Performing Arts Center “AV Ballet presents Coppelia”

When:  Saturday, May 10 at 7pm and Sunday, May 11 at 2pm
Where:  Lancaster Performing Arts Center, 750 W. Lancaster Boulevard, Lancaster
Details:  The Antelope Valley Ballet presents “Coppelia” at the Lancaster Performing Arts Center.  “The ballet Coppelia is one of the few comedic ballets, and tells the story of a girl who sits on her balcony all day reading, while speaking to no one.  A local boy named Franz falls in love with her and decided to marry her, even though he is already engaged to Swanhilda.”  This comedic love-triangle is a wonderful way to celebrate Mother’s Day with mom.  More information and tickets are available online.   

HMNMH Golf Classic

When:  Saturday, May 10, registration at 7:30am; tee off at 9am
Where: Valencia Country Club, 27330 Tourney Road, Valencia
Details:  This weekend is 41st Annual Frontier Toyota – Henry Mayo Newhall Memorial Hospital “Drive Safe” Golf Classic. There will be a helicopter will drop of 1,800 golf balls as part of the Golf Ball Drop with $50,000 on the line.  The day of golf extends with dinner and live & silent auctions.  The Golf Classic Auction includes a variety of items: NASCAR Pit Pass package, one week at a Palm Desert villa, one week at a Santa Barbara beach house, Alaskan cruise with airfare, 14K white gold blue sapphire and pave diamond necklace, and more. Rancho Camulos “Mother’s Day”

When:  Saturday, May 10, see tour hours below
Where: Rancho Camulos, Highway 126, 10 miles west of the I-5
Details:  Rancho Camulos celebrates mothers with “Mother’s Day at the Rancho.”  Bring a blanket and picnic lunch to have while spending time enjoying the Rancho’s gardens.  The Rancho’s roses are in their prime. Docent-led tours will focus on the stories of mothers throughout Camulos history and each touring mother will receive a freshly cut rose from the gardens. The suggested donation is $5 for adults and $3 for children. FastFrame Valencia “Congressional Art On Display”

Where: FastFrame Valencia, 24204 Valencia Boulevard – in the Whole Foods/Kohl’s center
Details:  FastFrame Valencia hosted the 25th Congressional District Art contest.  The contest was opened to high school students, grades 9-12 in our Congressional District. The winning piece will be displayed in the Cannon Tunnel of the U.S. Capitol for a year.  This year’s winner is Golden Valley High freshman Jennifer Kong, age 14.  Her winning piece is titled “The Tea Set” and is white charcoal on black paper.  Read more and see photographs in an article on the KHTS website: Golden Valley Freshman Wins 2014 Congressional Art Competition.    Then, go to FastFrame Valencia to see several of the entries from the contest.  More information on FastFrame is available by calling 291-1325 or online.  

Santa Clarita Elite Futbol Club U16 Goodwill Fundraiser

GraceFest SCV 

When:  Saturday, May 31 from 1-9pm, gates open at noon
Where:  Central Park, 27150 Bouquet Canyon Road, Saugus
Details:  The First Annual GraceFest SCV is the Santa Clarita Valley’s premier music and message festival.  GraceFest SCV will feature Building 429 with songs from their new album “Listen to the Sound.” Other bands in the line up: Worship Jam, Matterband, Truth Jones, Imagine Tomorrow, and Andy Gregory.  The festival will also include: children’s play area, prayer tent, and food & vendor booths. Carry-in food and coolers are permitted but not alcoholic drinks.  Blankets, beach chairs and beach umbrellas are welcome, though the umbrellas must be down by 5pm.  Pets and smoking will not be permitted.  Tickets are available through KHTS.  Adult tickets through KHTS are valued at $20 and sold for $15. Children’s tickets are for ages 11-19 years and are $10 each.  Come to the KHTS studios at 27225 Camp Plenty, Suite 8, at the intersection of Camp Plenty and Soledad Canyon Road or purchase online (online orders have a $2.50 fee for entire order; orders paid for online can be mailed). Enter for a chance to win a pair of tickets to GraceFest SCV courtesy of The Painted Shutter.   Kid’s Charities of the SCV will benefit from GraceFest SCV with financial support and scholarships for local youth programs and schools.  More information is available online.  

Saugus High Class of 2004 Reunion

California Strawberry Festival

AMGEN Tour Of California “Salt Creek Grille Viewing Party”

When:  Wednesday, May 14 starting at 8pm
Where: Salt Creek Grille, 24415 Town Center Drive, #115 – near Edwards Movie Theaters
Details:  Get into an AMGEN Tour of California state of mind at Salt Creek Grille.  Salt Creek will have a recap of AMGEN Tour of California Stage 4 as AMGEN makes its way to Santa Clarita.  The Viewing Party will have giveaways and raffles, including signed rider’s jerseys.  Learn more about Salt Creek Grille online.  

City Of Santa Clarita “Bike To Work Day”

When:  Thursday, May 15
Where: all throughout the Santa Clarita Valley
Details:  The City of Santa Clarita is holding the Fifth Annual “Bike to Work Day.” The biking is a friendly competition for Santa Clarita businesses.  Employers compete by getting the most employees to bike to work.  There will be ‘pit stops’ around the offering snacks, water and giveaways.  The pit stops will be open from 7am-9am  “The No Pollute Commute!”  Sign up by calling the city’s Environmental Services at 661-286-4098.   Learn more online.  

AMGEN Tour of California “Stage 6 Start”

When:  Friday, May 16 at 11:35am
Where:  Old Town Newhall at Main Street and Market
Details:  Be part of biking history with the Santa Clarita AMGEN Tour of California Stage 6 Start.  Arrive early to get autographs and watch the world’s top cyclists being interviewed live.  Riders will race 94 miles on the way to Mountain High North for the races second mountain top finish.  More information is available online.   

AMGEN Tour of California “Stage 7 Start”

When:  Saturday, May 17 at 11:40am
Where: Town Center Drive at the Westfield Valencia Town Center
Details:  The AMGEN Tour of California returns to Town Center Drive for the Stage 7 Start.  Arrive early to get autographs and watch the world’s top cyclists being interviewed live.  On this stage of the tour, cyclists will travel over 90 miles to Pasadena.  More information is available online.
