Action Family Foundation SCV Drug TakebackAction Family Foundation “SCV Drug Takeback”

When:  Saturday, April 26 from 10am-2pm
Where:  Henry Mayo Newhall Memorial Hospital, parking lot turn-around, 23845 McBean Parkway, Valencia
Details:  The Action Family Foundation is partnering for a “SCV Drug Takeback” collection.  Gather up your expired, unwanted or unused medication.  This is a safe and anonymous way to safely dispose of medications.  You won’t even have to get out of your car, just use the parking lot turn-around and drop into the disposal collection box. Santa Clarita Cowboy Festival 2014

California Poppy Festival

When:  Saturday, April 26 and Sunday, April 27 from 10am-6pm on both days
Where:  Lancaster City Park, 43011 10th Street West, just off the 14 Freeway at Avenue L
Details:  Celebrate our California state flower, the California Poppy, at the California Poppy Festival.  The Festival is two days of music, art, food and fun.  New this year:  Poppy Beer Pavilion, Bike Show & Shine, and the Largest Dessert Decorating Class for  the Guinness Book of World Records.  The Festival features: Adventure Zone, Aerospace & Aviation, Animal Attractions, Arts & Crafts, Farmers Market, Festival Foods, Fine Arts, Healthy Living Pavilion, and International Market.  Performing on the Main Poppy Stage will be country group, “Jacob Nelson & the Tone Wranglers”; ZZ Top tribute band, “Sharp Dressed Man”; and 14-piece Michael Jackson tribute band, “Foreverland”; and Eagles tribute band, “Hotel California.”   You can find times and a full list of zone entertainment and concerts online.  Tickets are $8 for ages 13-61; $5 for 62 and over; $5 for ages 6-12; $5 for active military; seniors over 62 are free;  and children 5 and under are free.  For California Poppy viewing, visit the website for the Antelope Valley California Poppy Reserve.  More information on the festival is available online.   

Assistance League “5K Run/Walk”

When:  Sunday, April 27, registration starts at 6:30am
Where:  Newhall Park, 24923 Newhall Avenue, Newhall
Details:   The Assistance League is holding their 26th Annual 5K Run/Walk.  The run starts at Newhall Park and continues on the South Fork Trail and back to the park.  There is a 1K Kid Fun Run that starts at 8am.  The fees are $5 for the Kid Fun Run.  The 5K fees are $20 for ages 17 and under, and $30 for 18 and above.  The 5K Mutt Strut is $30 for participant and dog (on a leash).  All runners get a T-Shirt, and dogs get a scarf.  Prices are $5 higher on race day.  Medals will be awarded to the first three places in each age group for the 5K.  All children participating in the 1K Kid Fun Run will receive a medal.  Register by Friday, April 25 for early registration.  Learn more about Assistance League and register for the Run/Walk online.  

YMCA “Healthy Kids Day”

When:  Saturday, April 26 from 10am-1pm
Where:  Valencia Heritage Park,  24155 Newhall Ranch Road, at McBean Parkway
Details:  The Santa Clarita Valley Family YMCA is holding “Healthy Kids Day.”  “This free event is a fun-filled day that includes interactive games, engaging family activities, and giveaways.”  There will be an obstacle course and rock climbing wall.  Healthy food vendors will be there.  Emergency vehicles will be on display and local youth groups will be performing.  Learn more by calling 661-253-3593 or online.   

“Helping Hands Day Of Service”

When:  Saturday, April 26 from 8am-noon, meet at 7:30am
Where:  meeting site is at the LDS Church, 19513 Drycliff Street, Canyon Country (at Camp Plenty)
Details:  Local Santa Clarita LDS churches will be participating in “Helping Hands Day of Service.”  The event will include the clean-up, painting, refurbishing, landscaping, and renewal of ten schools within the Saugus school district.  The event is NOT limited to church members, all are welcome to share in this day of service.  Councilman Bob Kellar and Dante Acosta, our newest Santa Clarita councilman will join the volunteers.   Read more in an article on the KHTS website:  Mormon Helping Hands Day Of Service To Support Santa Clarita Schools.  School assignments will be presented that morning.  More information is available by calling 661-373-0884 or email kathykellar@gmail.com. 

Santa Clarita Performing Arts Center “Robert Irvine, Live”

When:  Friday, April 25 at 8pm
Where: Santa Clarita Performing Arts Center, on the COC Valencia Campus, 26455 Rockwell Canyon Road, Valencia
Details:  “Robert Irvine, Live” will be at the Santa Clarita Performing Arts Center.  Robert Irvine host on The Food Network is bringing his high energy to Santa Clarita.  “Dinner: Impossible comes to life right before your eyes.”   Tickets are $85/$75/$65.  More information and tickets are available by calling 661-362-5304 or online.   

Canyon Theatre Guild “Damn Yankees” 

When:  Friday Evenings at 8pm on: April 25; Saturday Evenings at 8pm on: April 26; Sunday evening at 6pm on April 27

Creative Years “Pirate & Princess Fair And Silent Auction”

When:  Saturday, April 26 from 11am-2pm
Where:  Creative Years, 21710 Golden Triangle Road; take Soledad to Golden Oak, right on Golden Triangle, left to parking lot
Details:  Creative Years Infant Center and Preschool is holding “Pirate & Princess Fair And Silent Auction.”  Creative Years invites you to “come for the fun, friendship and food!”  The event is designed for preschool and young elementary age children.  Creative Years alumni photo will be taken at 12:00pm.  Children can dress as a pirate or princess to take pictures with the Creative Years pirate ship.  There will be face painting, ‘tattoos’, sucker toss, baseball throw, golf, bouncer, wheel of fortune, and art fun.  Food options include pizza, nachos and popcorn. 

Summer Meltdown

When:  Saturday, April 26, gates open at 11am and close at 10pm
Where:  City of Santa Clarita Skatepark, 208400 Centre Pointe Parkway
Details:  The 11th Annual Summer Meltdown Autism Awareness Art & Music Festival is coming to town.  The festival’s goal is to bring everyone together to celebrate art and music.  The event will feature many bands on three stages and art inspired by the music.  Some of the bands:  Matisyahu, The Dirty Heads, Stick Figure, Cisco Adler, and more. College Of The Canyons “Comedians of the Canyons” 

When:  Friday, April 25 at 8pm (additional show on Friday, May 30 at 8pm)
Where:  College of the Canyons, Valencia Campus, Pico Canyon Hall, Room 202

Poker Tournament & Casino Night

When:  Saturday, April 26, check in at 5:30pm
Where:  Line Drive Baseball Academy, 21618 Golden Triangle, Unit 108
Details:  A “Poker Tournament & Casino Night” is being held for So Cal Mudcats Baseball.  The poker or casino buy in is $100.  If you’re interested in dinner only, the cost is $50.  There will be prizes, raffles, and a silent auction.  For more information and to register call 661-713-2578.  

HMNMH “Donate A Bear” 

When:  throughout the month of April
Where:  one drop off location is KHTS AM-1220, 27225 Camp Plenty, Suite 8 – at Soledad Canyon
Details:  Henry Mayo Newhall Memorial Hospital admits more than 10,200 children each year through their Emergency Room.  To help comfort these young patients, the hospital is starting a “Donate A Bear” drive.  Donate a new 9 to12 inch  teddy bear and/or other stuffed animal.  Come on down to KHTS with your donation or email strmsekma@henrymayo.com or call 661-678-4047 for alternate collection boxes. 

Castaic Elementary “Earth Day Carnival”

When:  Saturday, April 26 from 10am-3pm
Where:  Castaic Elementary School, 30455 Park Vista Drive, Castaic
Details:  Castaic Elementary School PTA is holding their 4th Annual Earth Day Carnival Fundraiser.  The event features food, games, face painting, jumpers, talent show, vendor village and raffles.  To celebrate Earth Day there will be informative presentations on ways to conserve our environment.  A Goodwill truck will be on hand for donations.  There will be a stuffed animal collection to be used for comfort during emergencies.  Entrance is free.  Purchase a wristband for unlimited play on games, obstacle course and inflatable race horses.  Tickets are available online.  

Santa Clarita Artist Association “Spring Art Festival & Sale”

When:  Sunday, April 27 from 10am-4pm
Where:  Le Chene French Cuisine, 12624 Sierra Highway, Agua Dulce
Details:  The Santa Clarita Artist Association is holding their “Spring Art Festival & Sale.”  The exhibit is free to the public and will include over 30 artists.  There will be art demonstrations.  Proceeds benefit a high school scholarship program and other art activities.  Brunch or lunch may be purchases, though reservations are recommended.  More information is available by calling 661-252-7639 or online.  

Casting A New Backyard Makeover Show

Details:  Backyard Makeover is a new show looking for backyards that are overgrown and out-of-control.  “Is your backyard an eyesore? Does your landscape look like a jungle? Congressional Art Competition

When:  Wednesday, April 30, 2014 at 4pm
Where:  FastFrame Valencia, 24204 Valencia Boulevard, in the Whole Foods/Kohl’s shopping center 
Details:  The Congressional Art Competition has accepted artwork submissions and is now ready for the judging ceremony.  The competition was open to all high school students within the California 25th District represented by Congressman Howard P. “Buck” McKeon.  Read more about the competition, criteria, submission locations and past winners in an article on the KHTS website: Congressional Art Competition Accepting Submissions Until April 21. The judging ceremony is scheduled for Wednesday, April 30 at 4pm at FastFrame Valencia.

GraceFest SCV 

When:  Saturday, May 31 from 1-9pm, gates open at noon
Where:  Central Park, 27150 Bouquet Canyon Road, Saugus
Details:  The First Annual GraceFest SCV is the Santa Clarita Valley’s premier music and message festival.  GraceFest SCV will feature Building 429 with songs from their new album “Listen to the Sound.” Other bands in the line up: Worship Jam, Matterband, Truth Jones, Imagine Tomorrow, and Andy Gregory.  The festival will also include: children’s play area, prayer tent, and food & vendor booths. Carry-in food and coolers are permitted but not alcoholic drinks.  Blankets, beach chairs and beach umbrellas are welcome, though the umbrellas must be down by 5pm.  Pets and smoking will not be permitted.  Tickets are available through KHTS.  Adult tickets through KHTS are valued at $20 and sold for $15. Children’s tickets are for ages 11-19 years and are $10 each.  Come to the KHTS studios at 27225 Camp Plenty, Suite 8, at the intersection of Camp Plenty and Soledad Canyon Road or purchase online (online orders have a $2.50 fee for entire order; orders paid for online can be mailed).  Kid’s Charities of the SCV will benefit from GraceFest SCV with financial support and scholarships for local youth programs and schools.  More information is available online.  

College Of The Canyons “Battle Of The Bands” 

When:  Sunday, May 18 beginning at noon – Deadline for applying is Wednesday, April 30 at 5pm
Where:  College of the Canyons Canyon Country Campus, 17200 Sierra Highway, Canyon Country
Details:  “Let’s Rock the Hills of the College of the Canyons Canyon Country Campus” with the “Battle of the Bands.”  The battle will be held at the Carl A. Rasmussen Amphitheater.  This event is free and open to the public.  There will be a classic car show and food vendors.  If you would like to enter the Battle of the Bands you must apply before the deadline on Wednesday, April 30 at 5pm.  Keyboard Galleria is taking submissions online.  Keyboard Galleria will select five to seven bands for the competition.  Bands selected will have a chance to win prizes such as music equipment and cash.  KHTS AM-1220 will play the winning band’s music.  Enter before the deadline!

Saugus High Class of 2004 Reunion 

When:  Saturday, August 23 from 7-11pm
Where:  Robinson Ranch Golf Clubhouse, 27734 Sand Canyon Road, Santa Clarita

Special Olympics “Shoot-A-Thon” 

When:  Saturday, May 19 from 10am-3pm
Where: City of Santa Clarita Sports Complex, 20870 Centre Pointe Parkway – at Golden Valley Parkway
Details:  The Special Olympics is holding their 3rd Annual Shoot-A-thon.  This year’s goal of shooting basketballs is 12,000 baskets. The event brings together athlete with intellectual disabilities, local residents, and volunteers from all of the local Santa Clarita high schools.  Mixed Martial Arts legend John McCarthy will be back for a second year.  Also joining in on the fun: former NBA player Tony Farmer; the L.A. Kings Ice Crew; and the L.A. Sparks mascot, Sparky.  Funds raised will benefit Special Olympics Santa Clarita Valley & Tri-Valley Regions and Hoops of Hope.  More information is available online
