When:  Saturday, May 3 from noon-3pm
Where:  Valencia Marketplace Outdoor Amphitheater, on The Old Road at McBean Parkway near  the Noah’s Bagels, just look for the KHTS Antique White Fire Truck
Details:   Valencia Marketplace is celebrating mothers with their “Mother’s Day Event”.  Children 12 and under can take part in Kid Club and make Mother’s Day crafts.  KHTS will be giving away a stash of prizes.  The KHTS 1948 Antique Mack Fire Truck will be there for fun and photo opportunities.  Enjoy performances from many of our local elementary school choirs.  Go to the KHTS Facebook page for a chance to win individual pizza from Mod Pizza or a bagel sandwich from Noah’s Bagels.   Think Mother’s Day at the Valencia Marketplace.  Learn more online.

Details:  Child & Family Center’s premier event “Taste of the Town” is finally here.  Taste of the Town is an afternoon of tastings from dozens of restaurants and caterers, sipping of wine and beer, listening and dancing to live entertainment, and bidding on silent and live auction items.  Get tickets for the popular Diamond Drop. Mayors Prayer Breakfast

When:  Thursday, May 1 starting at 7am
Where:  Hyatt Regency Valencia, 24500 Town Center Drive, at McBean Parkway

Santa Clarita Valley “Man & Woman Of The Year”

College of The Canyons “Star Party

Where:  College of the Canyon, Canyon Country Campus, 17200 Sierra Highway, Canyon Country
Details:  College of the Canyons, Canyon Country is holding their spring “Star Party.”  This event is free and open to the public.  There will be telescopes set up for everyone to view the night sky.  Guest speaker, Dr. Charles Beichman, from the NASA’s Exoplanet Science Institute will speak on “The James Webb Space Telescope.”  Read more in a College of the Canyons press release.

Memorial Garden TourMemorial Garden Tour

Details:  The Eighth Annual Memorial Garden Tour showcases gardens throughout the Santa Clarita Valley.  The Garden Tour is a self-guided tour in memory of Cole Larsen. Cole was an Army Pfc. military policeman from Santa Clarita.  He was killed in Iraq on November 13, 2004 at the age of  19.  Cole’s mother, Christi Larsen, has always loved gardening.  When on the Senior Hour Show on KHTS AM-1220, Christi Larsen told the story of gardening to deal with her grief and finding Cole’s toy soldiers from his playing “Army” when he was a child.  She expanded her gardening to the Memorial Garden Tour as a way to remember her son and to give back to the community that lent her family much needed support.  Each garden will have a donation bucket for the Cole William Larsen Foundation that supports families of fallen and wounded military.  Donations are welcome and up to your discretion.  Check donations can be made out to the Cole William Larsen Foundation.  Learn which gardens are part of the tour online.  

Lancaster Performing Arts Center “Branford Marsalis”

When:  Saturday, May 3 at 8pm
Where:  Lancaster Performing Arts Center, 750 West Lancaster Blvd, Lancaster
Details:  Jazz master Branford Marsalis will be appearing at the Lancaster Performing Arts Center.  “Renowned Grammy Award-winning saxophonist, and Tony Award nominee Branford Marsalis is one of the most revered instrumentalists of his time.”  More information and tickets are available by calling 661-723-5950 or online.  

College Of The Canyons “Job & Career Fair” and KHTS “Virtual Job Fair”

When:  Wednesday, May 7 from 11am-2pm
Where:  College of the Canyons, Canyon Country Campus, The Carl A. Rasmussen Amphitheater, 17200 Sierra Highway
Details:  College of the Canyons is holding a “Job & Career Fair” and KTHS will be there with a “Virtual Job Fair” to expand your search.  The fair is open to COC students and the entire Santa Clarita community.  A large and diverse group of employers are looking to fill a wide range of positions.  Stop by the “Virtual Job Fair” at the KHTS AM-1220 booth to view more employers looking for employees.  Dress for success and bring resumes.  There is free parking in the student parking lot.  Employers interested in being part of the “Virtual Job Fair” can contact Roby Marshall at KHTS by calling 661-298-1220 or emailing roby@hometownstation.com  More information is available online.  

City Of Santa Clarita ART SLAM

Where:  Main Street, Old Town Newhall
Details:  The City of Santa Clarita’s Art Slam brings us the “Art of the Human Figure.”  “Art Slam will feature an array of artists, photographers, models, and designers with a variety of creative exhibits, demonstrations, performances, installations, and hands-on opportunities celebrating the beauty of the human figure.”  One of the artists is none other than KHTS’ own board-operator extraordinaire, Peter Marquez.  Say, “Hello” to Peter when you see him and his art. 

Wings For Life World Run

When:  Sunday, May 4 starting at 3am
Where:  Westfield Valencia Town Center
Details:  Wings For Life World Run is a unique run experience.  Santa Clarita is one of 34 locations around the world that is starting the run at the very same time worldwide. Santa Clarita is the only west coast participant.  Proceeds from the run will go to the Wings For Life Foundation for research into curing spinal cord injury.  Since the run starts at the same time around the world, the Santa Clarita start time is 3am.  Chase cars start from each starting point one-half hour after the start of the race.  The chase cars stick to a rigid schedule and each runner’s race time coordinates with the chase car.  Once the chase car overtakes or laps a runner, that runner’s race is determined to be finished.  Learn more about the race on a story on the KHTS website:  Santa Clarita Representing West Coast In First Ever Worldwide Charity Marathon.  

Green Thumb “Healthy Soil, Healthy Plants”

When:  Saturday, May 3 from 10am-11am
Where:  Green Thumb International, 23734 Newhall Avenue, Newhall

Zonta “Lunafest”

Kidspace Children’s Museum “Butterfly Release”

When:  Saturday, May 3 and Sunday, May 4 at 2pm each day
Where:  Kidspace Children’s Museum, 480 N. Arroyo Boulevard, Pasadena

Vibe Performing Arts Studios Karaoke Coaching & Open Mic Jam

When:  Friday, May 2 from 6:30-9:30pm
Where:  Vibe Performing Arts Studios, 24460-1/4 Lyons Avenue, Santa Clarita (near the 5 Freeway)
Details:  Vibe Performing Arts Studios is offering Karaoke Coaching and Open Mic Jam.  If you love to sing karaoke or would like to try, this is your chance to get some professional coaching.  Vibe instructor Brittney Westover will offer and print out tips for you to take home.  The tips will strengthen your mic and vocal technique, and your stage presence.  These mini lessons are $10 for the entire evening.  The Vibe café will serve up coffee and drinks, plus Bake You Happy desserts.  These Karaoke Coaching & Open Mic Jam sessions are held every first Friday of the month.  More information is available by calling 661-255-7464 or online.  

Justin Time Children’s House “Getting Along With Grief”

GraceFest SCV 

When:  Saturday, May 31 from 1-9pm, gates open at noon
Where:  Central Park, 27150 Bouquet Canyon Road, Saugus
Details:  The First Annual GraceFest SCV is the Santa Clarita Valley’s premier music and message festival.  GraceFest SCV will feature Building 429 with songs from their new album “Listen to the Sound.” Other bands in the line up: Worship Jam, Matterband, Truth Jones, Imagine Tomorrow, and Andy Gregory.  The festival will also include: children’s play area, prayer tent, and food & vendor booths. Carry-in food and coolers are permitted but not alcoholic drinks.  Blankets, beach chairs and beach umbrellas are welcome, though the umbrellas must be down by 5pm.  Pets and smoking will not be permitted.  Tickets are available through KHTS.  Adult tickets through KHTS are valued at $20 and sold for $15. Children’s tickets are for ages 11-19 years and are $10 each.  Come to the KHTS studios at 27225 Camp Plenty, Suite 8, at the intersection of Camp Plenty and Soledad Canyon Road or purchase online (online orders have a $2.50 fee for entire order; orders paid for online can be mailed).  Kid’s Charities of the SCV will benefit from GraceFest SCV with financial support and scholarships for local youth programs and schools.  More information is available online.  

Real Life Church “Leadercast”

When:  Friday, May 9 from 8am-3:30pm, registration begins at 7am
Where:  Real Life Church, 23841 Newhall Ranch Road, between Grandview and McBean Parkway

College Of The Canyons “Battle Of The Bands”

When:  Sunday, May 18 beginning at noon – Deadline for applying is Wednesday, April 30 at 5pm
Where:  College of the Canyons Canyon Country Campus, 17200 Sierra Highway, Canyon Country
Details:  “Let’s Rock the Hills of the College of the Canyons Canyon Country Campus” with the “Battle of the Bands.”  The battle will be held at the Carl A. Rasmussen Amphitheater.  This event is free and open to the public.  There will be a classic car show and food vendors.  If you would like to enter the Battle of the Bands you must apply before the deadline on Wednesday, April 30 at 5pm.  Keyboard Galleria     is taking submissions online.  Keyboard Galleria will select five to seven bands for the competition.  Bands selected will have a chance to win prizes such as music equipment and cash.  KHTS AM-1220 will play the winning band’s music.  Enter before the deadline!

Saugus High Class of 2004 Reunion 

When:  Saturday, August 23 from 7-11pm
Where:  Robinson Ranch Golf Clubhouse, 27734 Sand Canyon Road, Santa Clarita
