Canyon Theatre Guild “Damn Yankees” 

When:  Friday Evenings at 8pm on: April 11, 18 and 25; Saturday Evenings at 8pm on: April 12, 19, 26; Sunday evening at 6pm on April 27; Sunday Matinees at 2pm on April 13

Santa Clarita Performing Arts Center “Tiempo Libre”

When:  Friday, April 11 at 8pm
Where:  Santa Clarita Performing Arts Center, on the COC Valencia Campus, 26455 Rockwell Canyon Road, Valencia
Details:  The Santa Clarita Performing Arts Center has “Tiempo Libre” as part of their World Beat Series.  “The three-time Grammy-nominated Cuban musical group, Tiemp Libre, is one of the hottest young bands today.”  Tiempo Libre is known for timba, a mix of Latin Jazz.  Tickets are $35/$40/$45.  More information and tickets are available by calling 661-362-5304 or online


City of Santa Clarita
 “Earth Arbor Day”

When:  Saturday, April 12 from 10am-4pm
Where:  Central Park, 27150 Bouquet Canyon Road, Saugus
Details:  The City of Santa Clarita is celebrating the Earth with an Earth Arbor Day Festival.  Meet eco-minded artists, green businesses and ecologically concerned community groups sharing resources and education about green and healthy living.  Kids will enjoy the eco-kid activities.  There will be live entertainment, food and displays on alternative transportation, tree care, sustainable energy, water conservation, and health and wellness.  Take home a free 1-gallon tree. YMCA “Egg Stravaganza”

When:  Sunday, April 13 from 11am-1pm
Where:  Santa Clarita Valley Family YMCA, 26147 McBean Parkway, Valencia

HMNMH “Donate A Bear” 

When:  throughout the month of April
Where:  one drop off location is KHTS AM-1220, 27225 Camp Plenty, Suite 8 – at Soledad Canyon
Details:  Henry Mayo Newhall Memorial Hospital admits more than 10,200 children each year through their Emergency Room.  To help comfort these young patients, the hospital is starting a “Donate A Bear” drive.  Donate a new 9 to12 inch  teddy bear and/or other stuffed animal.  Come on down to KHTS with your donation or email strmsekma@henrymayo.com or call 661-678-4047 for alternate collection boxes.

Six Flags Magic Mountain “Ride Backwards!”

When:  for a limited time
Where:  Six Flags Magic Mountain, 26101 Magic Mountain Parkway, Valencia

Rancho Camulos “John Boston, Mr. Santa Clarita” 

When:  Saturday, April 12 at noon
Where:  Rancho Camulos, on Highway 126, 10 miles west of I-5
Details:  Mr. Santa Clarita, John Boston, will bring his wit, humor and knowledge to Rancho Camulos.  His knowledge of local history will be shared with his lecture entitled, “The 3,017 Most Interesting, Compelling & Nefarious People In Santa Clarita Valley History.”  With a title like that, it is understandable why John Boston is a winner of the Will Rogers Lifetime Achievement Award.  Suggested donation is $5.  Reservations are not required but are appreciated.  More information is available online

Special Olympics “World’s Largest Bunco Tournament” 

When:  Saturday, April 12 at 3:30pm
Where:  Castaic Regional Sports Complex, 31230 Castaic Road, Castaic
Details:  The 2nd Annual World’s Largest Bunco Tournament will come to town in support of Special Olympics Santa Clarita and Tri-Valley athletes.  All are invited to help break the 2013 record number of players.  The goal is 288 players.  This year’s theme is “Gilligan’s Island.”  Come dressed as your favorite castaway.  Tickets are $35 and include dinner, a no-host bar, and prizes. 

St. Clare Lenten Fish Fry

When:  Friday, April 11 from 4:30-8pm
Where:  Saint Clare of Assisi, 19606 Calla Way, Canyon Country
Details:  Lent is here and St. Clare’s is again holding their Lenten Fish Fry.  Friday, April 11 is the last Fish Fry for this season.  The dinners include beer battered Alaska cod, French fries or rice pilaf, coleslaw, rolls, and coffee, tea or milk.  Desserts are available for purchase at the Bake Sale table.  Other beverages are available for purchase.  A two-piece dinner is $9 and three-piece for $10.  Meals are dine-in or take-out.  Proceeds benefit the needy in Santa Clarita. 

Temple Beth Ami “Songs of Passover”

When:  Friday, April 11 at 8pm
Where:  Temple Beth Ami, 23023 Hilse Lane, Santa Clarita
Details:  Temple Beth Ami will be holding “Songs of Passover.”  Learn why this song is different from all other songs.  Cantor Kenny Ellis will be presenting a special Passover Friday night service with all of the many wonderful songs in the Hagaddah that are sung at the Seder.  There may be songs that are new to you. Santa Clarita Artists’ Association “Open House”

When:  Friday, April 11 from 6-9pm
Where:  Santa Clarita Artist Association, 24251 Town Center Drive, Ste 155, near Pottery Barn
Details:  The Santa Clarita Artists’ Association (SCAA) will be holding an “Open House” with special emphasis to celebrate the upcoming Cowboy Festival.  The event will feature Western art, cowboys, and horses. The gallery will keep the exhibit through April 27.  The Open House will include art demonstrations, wine, and appetizers.  Music will feature the band “Western State of Mind” performing music from the old west and original songs. E-Waste Roundup At COC

Where:  College of the Canyons, Valencia Campus, South Parking Lot
Details:  The City of Santa Clarita, L.A. GraceFest SCV 

When:  Saturday, May 31 from 1-9pm, gates open at noon
Where:  Central Park, 27150 Bouquet Canyon Road, Saugus
Details:  The First Annual GraceFest SCV is the Santa Clarita Valley’s premier music and message festival.  GraceFest SCV will feature Building 429 with songs from their new album “Listen to the Sound.” Other bands in the line up: Worship Jam, Matterband, Truth Jones, Imagine Tomorrow, and Andy Gregory.  The festival will also include: children’s play area, prayer tent, and food & vendor booths. Carry-in food and coolers are permitted but not alcoholic drinks.  Blankets, beach chairs and beach umbrellas are welcome, though the umbrellas must be down by 5pm.  Pets and smoking will not be permitted.  Tickets are available through KHTS.  Adult tickets through KHTS are valued at $20 and sold for $15. Children’s tickets are for ages 11-19 years and are $10 each.  Come to the KHTS studios at 27225 Camp Plenty, Suite 8, at the intersection of Camp Plenty and Soledad Canyon Road or purchase online (online orders have a $2.50 fee for entire order; orders paid for online can be mailed).  Kid’s Charities of the SCV will benefit from GraceFest SCV with financial support and scholarships for local youth programs and schools.  More information is available online.  

“What You Don’t Know: Teens, Drugs & Consequences” 

When:  Wednesday, April 16 from 6:30-8:30pm
Where:  City Hall Council Chambers, 23920 Valencia Boulevard at Citrus, Valencia
Details:  The City of Santa Clarita and the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station is holding an important workshop, “What You Don’t Know: Teens, Drugs & Consequences.” The workshop is free and is designed to raise parental awareness about current trends on teens and drugs.  Read more in an article on the KHTS website: Santa Clarita, Sheriff’s Deputy To Talk About Cellphone, Sexting, Social Media For Parents.

Saugus High Class of 2004 Reunion 

When:  Saturday, August 23 from 7-11pm
Where:  Robinson Ranch Golf Clubhouse, 27734 Sand Canyon Road, Santa Clarita

Lunar Eclipse Viewing

When:  Monday, April 14 at 10pm – 2am
Where:  Central Park, 27150 Bouquet Canyon Road, Saugus – meet at the far west end of the park near the basketball courts
Details:  The Local Group Astronomy Club will be holding a “Lunar Eclipse Viewing.”  Viewing will start at approximately 10pm.  The actual eclipse will start at 11pm with the full eclipse occurring near midnight.  The eclipse will end at approximately 1:30am.  The club will have several telescopes available for public viewing at no charge.  Bring a chair and blanket.  Dress warmly.  Park in the designated parking area, then walk to the far west end, near the basketball courts.  Rain or cloudy skies may affect the event.  Learn more about the Local Group Astronomy Club online.  

Congressional Art Competition

Details:  The Congressional Art Competition is now accepting artwork submissions.  The competition is open to all high school students within the California 25th District represented by Congressman Howard P. “Buck” McKeon.  Read more about the competition, criteria, submission locations and past winners in an article on the KHTS website: Congressional Art Competition Accepting Submissions Until April 21. The judging ceremony is scheduled for Wednesday, April 30 at 4pm at FastFrame Valencia.
