Golden Years Expo & Senior Health Fair

When:  Saturday, February 8 from 11am-5pmGolden Years Expo - Santa Clarita Event
Where:  Hyatt Regency Valencia, 25400 Town Center Drive – at McBean Parkway
Details:  The Golden Years Expo & Senior Health Fair is perfect for seniors, those approaching their senior years, and those caring for seniors.  The Golden Years are golden but they also come with many changes.  The Expo brings together professionals and resources all in one setting to help us deal with these changes.  Some of the Expo activities are: expo area with displays of senior focused services, products and community resources; presentation/demonstration room for topics such as health, fitness, safety, wealth, leisure, and senior life-style; and free medical screenings.  Prize drawings and special offers will be part of the event, including a Grand Prize of up to 500 California Super Lotto Plus Quick Pick plays.  Speakers will be speaking on a wide range of topics including: Protecting Your Assets & Independence, Hearing Loss, VA Cash Benefits, Long Term Care Needs, and much more.  Some of the topics of interest: consumer goods, digital technologies, personal services, government resources, elder care, legal services, retirement planning & management, safety and security, and more.  The event is primarily presented by Henry Mayo Newhall Memorial Hospital.    A full list of activities, schedule, floor plan and speakers is available online 

Benefit Concert For SCV Food Pantry

When:  Saturday, February 8 at 6:30pm
Where:  Keyboard Galleria Music Center, 21515 Soledad Canyon Road – next to Santa Clarita Lanes
Details:  This benefit concert for SCV Food Pantry features “KIKstart,” an all-local, all-girl  band known for their fundraising benefit concerts.  The band plays cover songs by R5, Hanson, OneRepublic, Maroon 5, and more.  Tickets are $10 per person or $8 when you bring in three canned food items.  Tickets include admission, pizza and drinks.  Pre-purchase tickets at Keyboard Galleria or online.

Blanket Making Factory

When:  Sunday, February 9 from 2-4pm
Where:  NorthPark Community Church,   28310 Kelly Johnson Parkway – at Copperhill
Details:  “Blanket Making factory” offers a way to help provide free surgeries to children around the world who need them.  Read more in a KHTS story: Mending Kids Provides Life-Changing Surgeries To Children Around The World.   The blanket making event is open to the public but RSVP is preferred.  Volunteers must bring a stuffed animal to donate and a pair of scissors to use during the event.  For more information or RSVP call 951-314-2248.

Canyon Theatre Guild “The Dixie Swim Club”

When:  Fridays and Saturdays at 8pm on: January 31, February 1, 7, 14, 15, 21, 22, and March 1; Sundays at 2pm on: February 9 and 23; Sundays at 6pm on February 16
Where:  Canyon Theatre Guild, 24342 Main Street in Old Town Newhall
Details:  Canyon Theatre Guild has the new comedy “The Dixie Swim Club.”  The story is about five Southern women that met on their college swim team.  They meet for one weekend every August to catch up on each other’s lives.  “As their lives unfold and the years pass, these women increasingly rely on one another through advice and raucous repartee, to get through the challenges that life flings at them.”  “The Dixie Swim Club is the story of these unforgettable women-a hilarious and touching comedy about friendships that last forever.”  Hear a KHTS Friday Matinee podcast interview with some of the stars of “The Dixie Swim Club” during an appearance on January 17.   Tickets are $12 to $15 for juniors/seniors and $15 to $17 for adults.  Tickets are available by calling 661-799-2702.  More information is available online.  

Prayer AnglesPrayer Angels For The Military “Hearts For Heroes”

When:  Sunday, February 9 from 1-4pm
Where:  Old Town Newhall Library, 24500 Main Street, Old Town Newhall
Details:  Prayer Angels For The Military is holding a community-wide event to make Valentine’s special for our troops in Afghanistan, and local firefighters and law enforcement.  Make Valentine’s cards and box up care packages.  Bring donations for the care packages.  Food items needed: individually wrapped snacks, beef jerky, drink packets, canned pop-top food items, peanut butter and crackers.  Miscellaneous items needed: body wash, cotton socks (black or white), lotion, three blade razors, baby wipes, heat activated hand warmers, winter scarves, beanies, gloves and twin-size blankets.  Funds for postage would also be welcome.  Donate through Paypal online: prayerangelsforthemilitary.com  or mail donations to Prayer Angels For the Military, 21609 Oak Orchard Road, Newhall, CA 91321.  More information is available by calling Suzon 661-799-8865 or Sharon 661-755-8629 or by email: prayerangelsforthemilitary@yahoo.com 

Lancaster Performing Arts Center “Moscow Festival Ballet” 

When:  Sunday, February 9 at 3pm
Where:  Lancaster Performing Arts Center, 750 West Lancaster Boulevard, Lancaster
Details:  Lancaster Performing Arts Center has the Moscow Festival Ballet performing “The Sleeping Beauty.”  This timeless classic is “replete with a king and queen, fairies both good and evil, a beautiful princess and dream prince, magical stage effects, and courtly splendor.”  More information and tickets are available by calling 661-753-5950 or online.

Canyon Theatre Guild “The Hobbit” 

When:  Saturdays and Sundays at 2pm: February 8, 15, 16, 22 and March 1;  Sundays at 6pm: February 9 and 23;  Friday at 8pm: February 28
Where:  Canyon Theatre Guild, 24242 Main Street, Old Town Newhall
Details:  J.R.R. Tolkien’s epic tale of Middle Earth is at Canyon Theatre Guild with performances of “The Hobbit.”  The play tells the story of Bilbo Baggins and a band of dwarves as they go on a remarkable journey encountering wizards, trolls, elves and a dragon.  Tickets are $12/$15 for juniors/seniors and $15/$17 for adults.  More information on the play and tickets are available by calling 661-799-2702 or online.  

Vibe Performing Arts Studios Karaoke Coaching & Open Mic Jam

When:  Friday, February 7 from 6:30-9:30pm
Where:  Vibe Performing Arts Studios, 24460-1/4 Lyons Avenue, Santa Clarita (near the 5 Freeway)
Details:  Vibe Performing Arts Studios is offering Karaoke Coaching and Open Mic Jam.  If you love to sing karaoke or would like to try, this is your chance to get some professional coaching.  Vibe instructor Brittney Westover will offer and print out tips for you to take home.  The tips will strengthen your mic and vocal technique, and your stage presence.  These mini lessons are $10 for the entire evening.  The Vibe café will serve up coffee and drinks, plus Bake You Happy desserts.  More information is available by calling 661-255-7464 or online.  

ESCAPE Children’s Theatre “Oliver!”

When:  Friday, February 7 at 7pm; Saturday, February 8 at 2pm and 7pm; Sunday, February 9 at 2pm and 7pm
Where:  Santa Clarita Performing Arts Center on the COC Valencia campus, 26455 Rockwell Canyon, Valencia 
Details:  ESCAPE Children’s Theatre has the musical “Oliver!” based on the Charles Dickens novel.  Over 250 talented youth and teens will be performing.  You will hear all the familiar songs: Yourself, Where Is Love, and Oom Pah Pah.  The shows are approximately 2-1/2 hours.  Tickets are $22 for adults and $18 for students, children and seniors.  More information and tickets are available by calling 661-299-5264 or online.

Details:  The Harlem Globetrotters are bringing back the ultimate in family entertainment with their highflying dunks, eye-popping tricks and truly hilarious jokes.
