College Of The Canyons Music “Jazz It!”

When:  Friday, March 21 at 7:30pm
Where:  Santa Clarita Performing Arts Center on the COC Valencia Campus, 26455 Rockwell Canyon Road, Valencia
Details:  The College of the Canyons jazz bands will be holding their concert “Jazz It!”  Under the direction of KC Manji, the “evening featuring popular jazz tunes arranged for everything from jazz combos to 19-piece swing band.” Raffle tickets will be sold to raise funds for transportation of the 17-member Studio Jazz Ensemble to travel and compete in the 52nd Annual Reno Jazz Festival in April.  Tickets are $10 and $5.  More information and tickets are available by calling 661-362-5304 or online

Lancaster Performing Arts Center “Hair-The American Tribal Love Rock Musical” 

When:  Sunday, March 23  at 3pm
Where:  Lancaster Performing Arts Center, 750 W. Lancaster Boulevard, Lancaster
Details:  The Lancaster Performing Arts Center has the rock musical “Hair.”  All the favorites of “Aquarius,” “Let the Sun Shine In,” “Good Morning, Starshine,” and “Easy to be Hard” will introduce you to the 60s or take you right back to that era.  More information and tickets are available online.

Workshop On Dealing With Procrastination

When:  Sunday, March 23 from 10am-1pm
Where: CARE Learning Academy, 26883 Ruether Avenue, one block north of Soledad Canyon Road
Details:  Procrastination: to delay, to defer action, put off to another day.  Procrastination can bog down your personal and professional life.  The workshop is entitled Creative Reasons To Avoid Productivity.  Abi Caruthers of Hypnosis by Abi, certified life coach Kimberly Barclay and owner/founder of Education Learning Centers in Southern California Sue Cowling will be conducting the workshop. Kern County Raceway “Car Show”

When:  Saturday, March 22, gates open at 8am
Where:  Kern County Raceway, 13500 Raceway Blvd, Bakersfield – just off the 5 Freeway, one hour north of Santa Clarita
Details:  Kern County Raceway Park is holding their first annual “Classic Car-Truck and Bike” show.  Gates open at 8am with free admission and free parking.  Over 100 cars, trucks, bikes and race cars will be there.  Enjoy live music, a burnout contest, food and fun for the entire family.  More information is available online

Jack’s Angels “Rummage Sale” 

When:  Saturday, March 22 and Sunday, March 23 from 8am-4pm
Where:  Mueller Hay Company, 15706 Sierra Highway, north of Sand Canyon Road  – just north of Vasquez Canyon Road
Details:  Jack’s Angels is holding a Spring Rummage Sale and Bake Sale and also  taking the opportunity to collect food items for Help The Children.  Jack’s Angels Foundation raises awareness of DPIG, Diffuse Intrinsic Pontine Glioma, which is responsible for 80% of  pediatric brain tumor deaths.  Come out and support this great cause.  And while you are helping, bring a food item for the Help The Children food drive.  Items needed: canned fruits and vegetables, spaghetti sauce, peanut butter, jelly, canned beans, juice boxes, cereal, sugar, tuna, mac & cheese, ramen noodles, soup, and other packaged food items.  And if you’ve started your Spring cleaning and would like to donate items, please call.  More information is available by calling 661-977-3125 or online.

City Of Santa Clarita SENSES

When:  Thursday, March 20 from 7-11pm
Where:  Main Street, Old Town Newhall
Details:  SENSES is a themed block party coordinated and sponsored by the City of Santa Clarita.  The SENSES party takes place on the third Thursday of each month.   This month’s theme is the Roaring Twenties.  Vaud & The Villains, a 19 piece New Orleans orchestra and cabaret show will be performing to round out this sensory experience.  Gourmet food trucks, contest, and art deco activities will be part of the event.  Get into the spirit of the night and dress in your best Roaring Twenties outfits.  More information is available online.   

St. Clare Lenten Fish Fry 

When:  Fridays from 4:30-8pm from March 7 through April 11
Where:  Saint Clare of Assisi, 19606 Calla Way, Canyon Country Details:  Lent is here and St. Clare’s is again holding their Lenten Fish Fry.  The dinners include beer battered Alaska cod, French fries or rice pilaf, coleslaw, rolls, and coffee, tea or milk.  Desserts are available for purchase at the Bake Sale table.  Other beverages are available for purchase.  A two-piece dinner is $9 and three-piece for $10.  Meals are dine-in or take-out.  Proceeds benefit the needy in Santa Clarita. 

Temple Beth Purim Celebrations

Where:  Temple Beth Ami, 23023 Hilse Lane, Newhall
Details:  On Saturday, March 15 at 7pm, Temple Beth Ami will be holding the Story of Esther with the holiday, Purim.  There will be a reading of The Megillah, the story of the Book of Esther.  Celebrants come to this service in costume.  Rabbi Mark Blazer invites your entire family to enjoy the music and fun with Wendy Hersh and Teri Lieberstein.  On Sunday, March 16 from 10am-2pm, Temple Beth Ami will be hosting their traditional Purim Carnival.  The carnival will have games, food and entertainment featuring Mad Dog.  More information is available by calling 661-255-6410 or online.  

L.A. County Air Show

When:  Friday, March 21 and Saturday, March 22, gates open at 9am
Where:  William J. Fox Airfield, 4555 W Avenue G, Lancaster  93535
Details:  The inaugural L.A. County Air Show takes place this weekend at William J. Fox Airfield in Lancaster.  The show will feature jets, warbirds, and vintage aircraft.  Aerobatic performances will feature the world-famous U.S. Navy Blue Angels flight demonstration squadron.  Other performers include Greg Colyer piloting a Lockheed T-33 Shooting Star, Bill Braack in the Smoke ‘n Thunder Jet Car, and the Red Bull Air Force team.  Meet pilots and crewmembers, see educational exhibits, and explore aircraft displays.   Tickets: age 5 and under are free, ages6-12 are $10, and ages 13+ are $20.  Ticket prices does not include a seat.  More information is available online

Kiwanis Of Northridge “Whale Watching”

When:  Sunday, March 23, meeting at 7am or later at boat in Newport Beach
Where:  departure point at 7am: Councilman Mitchell Endglander’s office (call for details)
Details:  Kiwanis of Northridge are holding a “Whale Watching” fundraiser.   The cost is $55 and includes a chartered bus to Newport Beach.  Tickets may also be purchased to donate to a resident of Corbin House/Valley Village or for a boy from Pacific Lodge and  their caregiver.  Funds raised will go towards scholarships to Key Club members, college students with disabilities, and fund to help purchase Kiwanis replacements flags for their flag project.  For more information, call 818-472-7746. 

 

Troop 48 Pancake Breakfast Fundraiser

When:  Saturday, March 22 from 7:30-10:30am
Where:  19513 Drycliff Street, Canyon Country – corner of Camp Plenty, one block from Sierra Vista Junior High
Details:  Troop 48 is holding a Pancake Breakfast Fundraiser.  Pancakes, eggs, sausage and juice for $4.00 donation.  The scouts are raising funds for camping equipment.

KHTS Emergency Expo

When:  Saturday, March 29 from 9am-5pm
Where:  Hyatt Regency Valencia, 24500 Town Center Drive at McBean Parkway
Details:  As part of the KHTS Home & Garden Show, the Emergency Expo will be showcased on the first day.  The Emergency Expo will have displays, presentations and drills from local emergency response teams.  The exhibitors will feature products and services for emergency preparedness, response and recovery.  Learn more online.

Congressional Art Competition

Details:  The Congressional Art Competition is now accepting artwork submissions.  The competition is open to all high school students within the California 25th District represented by Congressman Howard P. “Buck” McKeon.  Read more about the competition, criteria, submission locations and past winners in an article on the KHTS website: Congressional Art Competition Accepting Submissions Until April 21.
