Assistance League “Operation School Bell 5K”

The Assistance League “Operation School Bell 5K” (formerly Footsteps For Kids) includes a 5K Run/Walk, 1K Kids Run, and a 5K Mutt Strut.   This is a family style event starting in Newhall Park and working its way down the South Fork Trail and back.  The walks are appropriate for beginner, intermediate or advanced levels.  The Kids Fun Run is for ages 10 years and under; all participants receive a medal; registration is $5.  The Mutt Strut includes a long sleeve shirt and registration is $30 (dogs must be on leashes).  The 5K Run/Walk for 17 years and under includes a long sleeve shirt and registration is $15.  The 5K Run/Walk for 18 years and over includes a long sleeve shirt and registration is $30.  All proceeds benefit Operation School Bell program which provides clothing and shoes for Santa Clarita Valley elementary, junior high and high school age students.  Registration is available online.

Santa Clarita Cowboy Festival 2015

City Of Santa Clarita “Household Hazardous Waste Round-Up”

Clear your home of household hazardous waste and dispose of it safely at the one-day drive-through City of Santa Clarita “Household Hazardous Waste Round-Up.”  Just load up your waste and drive the event roadway and workers will unload your vehicle.  There is a limit of 15 gallons or 125 pounds of hazardous waste per trip.  Examples of Household Hazardous Waste:  motor oil, oil filter, brake fluid, paint, paint thinner, pesticides, household batteries, car batteries, old TVs, and fluorescent light bulbs.

College Of The Canyons “Battle Of The Bands” Auditions

Chiquita Canyon “31^st Annual Oak Tree Classic”

This year’s theme for the 31^st Annual Oak Tree Classic presented by Chiquita Canyon is “Turf Wars.”  Each foursome will represent on of the Santa Clarita Valley high schools: Canyon Country, Hart, Golden Valley, Saugus, Valencia, and West Ranch.  The day includes breakfast, lunch, dinner, and cash prizes and trophies.  Contest include:  Closest to the Pin Holes 4, 9, 11, and 16; Longest Drive; Closest to the Line; Putting, Frisbee Gold, and Chipping.  Prizes are listed online.  Entry fee is $300 per player or $1,100 per foursome.  Registration is available online.  Proceeds will benefit the William S. KHTS Home & Garden Show 2015
Mark your calendars!  The Sixth Annual KHTS Santa Clarita Home & Garden Show – Emergency Expo – Arts & Crafts Fair is almost here.  Each of the three sections of the KHTS Home & Garden Show 2015 are free and open to the public.  The KHTS Home & Garden Show 2015 will feature over two hundred local vendors. Emergency Expo

Canyon Theatre Guild “Monty Python’s Spamalot”
Canyon Theatre Guild has the classic film musical comedy “Monty Python’s Spamalot.”  This is the irreverent story of King Arthur and the Knights of the Round Table.  The Monty Python way is to also feature a “bevy of beautiful girls, not to mention cows, killer rabbits, and French people.”  The original Broadway production won three Tony Awards and 14 Tony Award nominations.

SCVi Charter School “Expresstival”
SCVi Charter School’s “Expresstival” is an Arts & Music Festival.  SCVi Charter partners with arts organizations and local businesses to celebrate their ‘learners’ and to cultivate arts awareness and involvement.  Everyone is invited join in the fun-filled day of family activities including sidewalk chalk art, live mural painting, bubble blowing, food trucks, photo booth, petting zoo, and two live Entertainment stages.  The headlining entertainer is Spongebob & the Hi-Seas Band, featuring Tom Kenny, voice of Spongebob Squarepants.

Triumph Foundation “Wheelchair Sports Festival”
The Triumph Foundation is hosting its 4th Annual Wheelchair Sports Festival featuring adaptive recreational sports.   “Wheelchair Sports Festival” features wheelchair hockey, basketball, quad rugby (murder ball), racquetball, and handcycling.  The day will also have art workshops and a resource fair.  The festival brings together able-body and disabled alike on a level playing field to participate in games and activities.  This is open to the public.  Everyone can play, coaching and instruction is available.

Reyes Winery “Sierra Pelona Valley Wine Festival”
This year marks the Third Annual Sierra Pelona Valley Wine Festival hosted by Reyes Winery.  Admission includes specialty event glass, specialty gift bag, wine and food sampling.  Some of the participants: Le Chene French Cuisine, Rattler’s Barbeque, Portos Bakery, Truffles ‘n Toffee, Patina Soul, Antelope Valley Winery, Golden Star Vineyards, Harris Wine Biz, Agua Dulce Winery, and many more.  Robert Reyes has developed his 16-acre vineyard into a winery that has won 56 medals during the last three years.  The vineyard is primarily planted with five grape varieties: Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Syrah, Chardonnay, and Muscat.  KHTS is selling half-price admission tickets – $65.00 value, your cost $32.50 – available online or at our office, 27225 Camp Plenty Road, Ste 8, Canyon Country.

Summer Meltdown 2015
Summer Melltdown 2015 features over 30 acts on three stages, skate/BMX demonstrations, art displays, interactive art exhibits and more.  Summer Meltdown is an Autism Awareness Art & Music Festival.  Some of the bands performing are: Pepper, The Expendables, Nahko, Through the Roots, The Movement, Daniel Marley, Seedless, and more.    A full list of bands, artists, and event questions/answers are available online.  Food trucks and vendors will also be at the event.  Tickets, available online, are $35 for pre-sale General and $60 for pre-sale VIP tickets.    Tickets the day of the event will be $40 for General and $70 for VIP.

Santa Clarita Valley Rose Society “Garden Tour”

The City of Santa Clarita is again holding the “Great American Camp Out.”  The Camp Out invites us to take a break from our electronics and pitch a tent to spend the night under the stars with family and friends.  The event offers: stargazing, T-shirt decorating, family games & crafts, and a traditional campfire with S’Mores.  A maximum number of 8 registered campers are allowed per site.  Registration has already begun and space is limited, so sign up now.

Congressional Art Competition
Original Artwork entries are now being accepted for the Congressional Art Competition.  Each Congressional District can have a competition within their district.  Each winning piece will be placed on display in the Capital Building in Washington, D.C.  Representative Steve Knight, R-Santa Clarita, is now accepting submissions to his Antelope Valley or Simi Valley offices.  Submissions can also be brought to the offices of KHTS AM-1220, 27225 Camp Plenty Road, Canyon Country – at the corner of Camp Plenty and Soledad Canyon.  KHTS is open Monday through Friday from 8am-5pm, call 661-298-1220 for more information.  The final judging and announcement will take place on Friday, May 1 at Fast Frame Valencia, 24204 Valencia Boulevard, in the Kohl’s Whole Foods Center across from the Valencia mall.  Read more in an article on the KHTS website: Santa Clarita Artists Could Have Work Displayed In Capital Building.   The website has additional information including drop-off addresses, artwork size, types of medium, and more.

Taste Of The Town
Taste of the Town is the Child & Family Center’s premier event.  This year marks the 27^th Annual Taste of the Town featuring over 40 restaurants, caterers, and wine & beer purveyors offering samples of food and drink.  The silent and live auctions offer unique items and experiences.  The Diamond Drop Drawing is a highly anticipated part of Taste of the Town.  Entertainment will be provided by Mark LeVang and Friends offering a wide range of musical styles.  Some of the participating restaurants: Wolf Creek, Nothing Bundt Cakes, New Moon, Lucille’s, Jersey Mike’s, Firemen’s Brew, and Stone Oven.  A full list and information on the Child & Family Center are available online.  Tickets are $75 for General Admission.  New for this year are VIP Experience tickets for $125 (advance purchase only) that adds a pre-event reception, reserved seating at umbrella table, two bottles of wine on your table, selection of passed appetizers, and cooking demonstration.  Tickets are available online.
