Taste Of The TownSCV Child & Family Center's Taste Of The Town To Be Held Sunday

Taste of the Town is the Child & Family Center’s premier event.  This year marks the 27th Annual Taste of the Town featuring over 40 restaurants, caterers, and wine & beer purveyors offering samples of food and drink.  The silent and live auctions offer unique items and experiences.  The Diamond Drop Drawing is a highly anticipated part of Taste of the Town.  Entertainment will be provided by Mark LeVang and Friends offering a wide range of musical styles.  Some of the participating restaurants: Wolf Creek, Nothing Bundt Cakes, New Moon, Lucille’s, Jersey Mike’s, Firemen’s Brew, and Stone Oven.  A full list and information on the Child & Family Center are available online.  Read more in a story on the KHTS website:  SCV Child & Family Center’s Taste Of The Town To Be Held Sunday.     Tickets are $75 for General Admission.  New for this year are VIP Experience tickets for $125 (advance purchase only) that adds a pre-event reception, reserved seating at umbrella table, two bottles of wine on your table, selection of passed appetizers, and cooking demonstration.  Tickets are available online.

YMCA Healthy Kids Day

The Santa Clarita Valley Family YMCA is hosting their annual Healthy Kids Day Expo where families can enjoy games, crafts, children’s performances, rock climbing, obstacles courses, and human hamster balls.  Take part in the emergency vehicles, Red Cross Blood mobile, and local vendors.  Register for the new Super Hero 5K Family Fun Run and Kids K.  Come dressed as your favorite super hero, have fun and win a medal.

Elks & Rotary “Night At The Races”

The Elks & Rotary club will be holding a fundraising event on May 2, officials said Thursday.

Tribute Fest 2015

Eat Drink and Play at Santa Clarita’s Tribute Fest 2015. Tribute Fest is 10 hours of concert featuring tributes to 8 legendary bands:  Beatles, Journey, Rolling Stones, U2, Queen, Bob Marley, Elton John and The Police.  Each band will perform a one hour set.  Beer and food are not included in general admission.  VIP guests receive 10 beer passes with admission.  Check out frequently asked questions.  KHTS is selling half-price $15 tickets by coming into the KHTS studios, 27225 Camp Plenty Road, Suite 8, Canyon Country – at the intersection of Soledad and Camp Plenty.

Domestic Violence Center “Fairy Shelter Kick-Off”Fairy Berry Breakfast 3

The Domestic Violence Center hosts the “Fairy Shelter Breakfast & Auction.”  This event is a kick-off event that helps you get an early start on building your fairy house for the auction.  This event will be for building fairy shelter.  Materials and supplies will be provided but you may bring your own. The cost to attend is $10.  The cost to attend and include a house in the auction is $15.  Tickets are available online.    All proceeds benefit the Domestic Violence Center of SCV.  See entry below for information on the “Fairy Shelter Breakfast & Auction.”

Fair Oaks Ranch Community School PTA “E-Waste Recycling”

Fair Oaks Ranch Community School PTA is holding an “E-Waste Recycling” fundraiser.  Support Fair Oaks Ranch Community School by cleaning out your garage and closets of e-waste and bringing it to the school for their recycling fundraiser.  Suggested items collected: computers, monitors, printers, copiers, laptops, keyboards, stereos, and televisions.  Items not accepted:  household batteries, refrigerators, freezers, space heaters, ovens, microwaves, and light bulbs.

Congressional Art Competition Reception

Original Artwork entries have been submitted for the Congressional Art Competition.  Each Congressional District can have a competition within their district.  Each winning piece will be placed on display in the Capital Building in Washington, D.C.  A Reception and exhibit of the entries will be held at Fast Frame Valencia.  The winning submission will be announced on May 1.  Read more in an article on the KHTS website: Santa Clarita Artists Could Have Work Displayed In Capital Building.

College Of The Canyons “Spring Star Party”

SCV Senior Center “The Best Of Everything Concert”

The SCV Senior Center is hosting “The Best of Everything” Concert presented by Center Stage Opera.  “The Best of Everything” includes selections from Carmen, La Boheme, Cabaret, Les Miserables and artists as Tony Bennett, Frank Sinatra, and the Righteous Brothers.  Soprano Melina Ehrlich and Tenor Dylan F. Thomas will be performing with special guests Jerry Brown, pianist and Center Stage Opera’s General Director.  Suggested donation is $5.

Memorial Garden TourSanta Clarita Homes Participate In Free 2014 Memorial Garden Tour Sunday

Put on your hats and comfy walking shoes for the 9th Annual Memorial Garden Tour features a variety of beautiful showcase gardens in bloom throughout the Santa Clarita Valley.  The gardens are generously shared by the homeowners who work on their gardens themselves.  During the tour different raffle items with a garden and outdoor theme will be given away.  Net proceeds benefit the Cole William Larsen Scholarship fund and continue to support Tragedy Assistance Program for Survivors (TAPS) and Wounded Warrior Project.  PFC Cole William Larsen was a resident of the Santa Clarita Valley and was killed in Iraq in 2004.  To help heal her heart, his mother, Christi Larsen would work her garden and would come across Cole’s boyhood plastic toy soldiers.  Christi was helped by TAPS.  To give back in recognition for all the help she received, Christi started the Memorial Garden Tour.

Jack’s Angels “Art For Jack” Music & Art Festival For Children

“Art For Jack” Music & Art Festival for Children celebrates the artistic and creative talent of children with art workshops, professional and student exhibits, and a concert of young performing artists.  The concert will include works of Paganini, Tchaikovsky, and Mozart.  Singer songwriter Teresa James and saxophonist Jerry Peterson will open the concert.  Proceeds from the event benefit Diffuse Intrinsic Pontine Glioma DIPG, one of the most devastating pediatric cancers.

Canyon Theatre Guild “Monty Python’s Spamalot”SCV Buzz – Spring Break

Canyon Theatre Guild has the classic film musical comedy “Monty Python’s Spamalot.”  This is the irreverent story of King Arthur and the Knights of the Round Table.  The Monty Python way is to also feature a “bevy of beautiful girls, not to mention cows, killer rabbits, and French people.”  The original Broadway production won three Tony Awards and 14 Tony Award nominations.

College of the Canyons and Keyboard Galleria Music Center is again sponsoring Battle of the Bands.  The question: is your band ready?  Enter the 2015 Battle of the Bands from now through Thursday, April 30.  Click on link below.  Your band can get heard by industry veterans who will be judging the event.  The event will be held Sunday, May 31 from 12noon-4pm at the College of the Canyons Canyon Country campus, 17200 Sierra Highway.  Besides the bands there will be a classic car show and food trucks.  Grab your family and friends and bring your lawn chairs and beach blankets.

SCV Youth Project “Sweet Charity Cake Auction”SCV Youth Project's Sweet Charity Cake Auction Raises More Than $20K
Santa Clarita’s sweetest event is the SCV Youth Project “Sweet Charity Cake Auction.”  This event features uniquely inspired and decorated cakes that reflect a business or organizations theme which is paired with individualized products, gifts and/or services.  Auction guests can view and bid on the cakes.  Cakes will be awarded prizes based on their originality, creativity, and the cake that raises the most money. The SCV Youth Project provides free services to teens in the Santa Clarita Valley on issues including: life challenges, depression, suicide, grief/loss, peer pressure, and drug/alcohol abuse.

The Domestic Violence Center is hosting the “Fairy Shelter Breakfast & Auction.”  The delightfully creative fairy houses are available for viewing and auction.  Fairy houses include The morning includes breakfast and a raffle.   The Fairy Shelters are judged on originality, detail & complexity, overall appearance, most creative use of natural materials, how much a fairy would like to live in the house, best house of fairyland, and adherence to rules.  Various prizes will be given and the top winner will receive a $100 gift card.  Tickets to attend the breakfast are $25 and available online.

City Of Santa Clarita “Great American Camp Out!”-Sign Up Now
The City of Santa Clarita is again holding the “Great American Camp Out.”  The Camp Out invites us to take a break from our electronics and pitch a tent to spend the night under the stars with family and friends.  The event offers: stargazing, T-shirt decorating, family games & crafts, and a traditional campfire with S’Mores.  A maximum number of 8 registered campers are allowed per site.  Registration has already begun and space is limited, so sign up now.

Connie and her husband, John, moved to the Santa Clarita Valley almost 30 years ago. Living in Santa Clarita for that long is the direct opposite of Connie’s childhood.
