What: The third annual Santa Colorita 5K Fun Run is a festival of community color, fitness, fun and families. Taking place all over the world, these fun runs have become a celebration of health, happiness, individuality and a spirit of giving back to one’s community. The event is for runners and participants of all ages, and there is only one rule: wear something white, and maybe some sunglasses, ‘cause you’re gonna get “rainbowed!” The “Skip for Jack” portion of the race is dedicated to the nonprofit Jack’s Angels Foundation named in honor of Jack, who was diagnosed at age 3 with Diffused Intrinsic Pontine Glioma (DIPG). Jack wanted to skip more than anything, so participants will be skipping for him.

DVC Awareness Through the Arts

Domestic Violence Center of SCV’s “Awareness through the Arts”

What: Three women share their stories of success by exposing their silent secrets of soul survival through drama, film and song. Featuring a dramatic performance by Tamee Seidling, a film written and directed by Lorena Gordon and a musical performance by Katy Moffatt. A panel of trained experts will be available for questions or comments following the performances. Tickets are $10, available at the door.

Local kids and their families can participate in a free Valentine’s Day event with the 11th Annual Hearts for Heroes program on Feb.7 and Feb. 14, according to a news release.

What: Prayer Angels for the Military presents “Hearts for Heroes,” a free event where you can make Valentine’s Day cards for deployed troops, veterans, firefighters and sheriff’s deputies. What: Passages is an interactive exhibit that chronicles the history of the Bible.  More than 400 artifacts are used to tell the stories. Artifacts include the Dead Sea Scrolls, a Bible that traveled to the moon on Apollo 14, and a letter handwritten by Martin Luther on the night before he was charged with heresy. Kids can take part in the parting of the Red Sea with Moses, dress as an animal on Noah’s Ark, and feed the lions so they don’t eat Daniel. Then on Feb. 16, Randall Chestnutt and Ron Cox of Pepperdine University are set to give a special lecture called “New Witnesses to the New Testament Text: Deciphering the Oldest Manuscript of Romans 4-5.” Admission is free, but reservations are required due to limited seating.
