Santa Clarita Ballet “Little Mermaid”Santa Clarita Ballet - Little Mermaid

The Santa Clarita Ballet has the charming production “Little Mermaid.”  The Santa Clarita Ballet is known for producing both classic and original ballets with elegant sets, colorful costumes and beautiful choreography.  Under experienced leadership of Corinne Glover, Executive Director, and Carol Guidry, Artistic Director, Santa Clarita Ballet captivates audiences.  “Little Mermaid” is choreographed by Pamela Sosa and is adapted from the Hans Christian Anderson’s original story of a young princess and prince from two different worlds.  “The mermaid princess leaves her underwater paradise and meets a handsome prince on the surface.”  Tickets are available at the Santa Clarita Ballet Box Office, 26798 Oak Avenue.  Hours are Monday-Thursday from 2pm-6pm and Saturday from 9am-1pm.  Or call for tickets at 661-251-0366 at any time and you call will be returned within 24 business hours.

Safety Town - Santa ClaritaSC Optimist Foundation “Safety Town–Santa Clarita”-Sign Up Now


The Santa Clarita Optimist Foundation is sponsoring “Safety Town – Santa Clarita” camps.  The camps are 3-1/2 hours per day for five days that teach safety education and awareness.  The camps are geared for Transitional Kindergarten, Pre-Kindergarten and Kindergarten age children.  During each camp, children will learn and have fun practicing essential safety skills they will use in their everyday lives at home and school, through repetitive, interactive instructional play.  “Safety Town” is a miniature city built to scale of a small child with a playground, traffic lights, street & stop signs, crosswalks & streets.  Children will practice Fire Safety, Earthquake & Disaster Safety, Personal Safety/Stranger Danger, Water Safety, Vehicle & Passenger Safety, Playground Safety, Pedestrian Safety, and Bicycle Safety.  Register online or by calling 661-299-8942.  Fees are $150 per child and include a T-Shirt and school bag.  Scholarships are available.

Country Showdown 2015 – Enter Now!2015 Country Showdown

When it comes to the Country Showdown, KHTS has a strong reputation.  In the last three years of participation, KHTS local winners have gone on to the National Competition on the stage of the Grand Ole Opry in Nashville after winning locally, statewide, and regional.  KHTS Winners: 2012 National Winner – Poor Man’s Poison; 2013 Nationals Finalist – Suzanne Harper; and 2014 Nationals Finalist – Marie Wise-Hawkins.  If you have dreams of becoming a country music recording artist, you still have time to enter.  The deadline is Wednesday, June 24 at 5pm.  Send a MP3 of two songs, along with your contact information, to carl@hometownstation.com.  The first of two rounds of Local Competition will take place at Keyboard Galleria on Saturday, June 27 at 5pm.  The second round of Local Competition will take place at Concerts in the Park on Saturday, July 18.  The finalist of the second round will go onto state competition at Knott’s Berry Farm before continuing on to regional and national. City Of Santa Clarita “Summer Beach Bus”Summer Beach Bus Offers Discount Trips To Santa Monica Beach

The City of Santa Clarita is taking us to Santa Monica, the easy way, on comfortable and air-conditioned buses.  Summer Beach Bus offers two routes each weekend, with one route serving the east side of the City and the other route, servicing the west and south sides.  Travelers can bring beach chairs, coolers, and surfboards.  Fares are $3 for adults and kids and $1.50 seniors and people with disabilities.  Buses arrive in Santa Monica between 10:00am-10:15am and depart back to Santa Clarita at 4:30pm.  Pick Up Locations: Canyon Country Park, Soledad Canyon Road & Solamint, Soledad Canyon Road & Shangri-La Drive, Railroad Avenue & 15th Street, Newhall Avenue & Valle Del Oro, Newhall Avenue & Sierra Highway, the Via Princessa Metrolink Station, The Newhall Metrolink Station, and the McBean Regional Transit Center.

Rancho Camulos “ Ramona”

Tickets are available for the free screening of the recently restored 1928 film “Ramona” staring Dolores del Rio.  A unique partnership involving Rancho Camulos Museum & National Historic Landmark brings this film to us.  The San Gabriel Mission Playhouse where the film is being presented will have the accompaniment of organist Robert Salisbury on the playhouse’s 1924 Wurlitzer pipe organ.  Admission is free but tickets must be obtained in advance online.      A panel discussion will begin at 4pm and there will be a $25 VIP reception at the Native Sons of the Golden West Ramona Museum to benefit Rancho Camulos.  Read more in an article on the KHTS website: Free Tickets For 1928 “Ramona” At San Gabriel Mission Playhouse.

2nd Annual Touch-A-Truck Fundraiser Brings Fire Engines and More To SaugusTouch A Truck

Children of all ages can get up close, climb into and all around a fire engine, Sheriff’s or CHP car, construction rigs, military vehicles, and more.  The SCV Senior Center is hosting “Touch a Truck,” a family-friendly vehicle exploration, food trucks, live entertainment, games, prizes, kid-friendly activities and vendor booths.  Admission is $5 per person.  Children are admitted free for Father’s Day weekend if they are accompanied by father/grandfather.  Proceeds benefit the SCV Senior Center programs such as Home Delivered Meals and Senior Respite Day Care.

Circus VargasCircus Vargas Coming To Santa Clarita

The Big One is Back, Circus Vargas, Circus Vargas.  The producers of Circus Vargas promise an all new show that is more magical and exciting than ever before.  The show, “Arle Quin – The Story” tells the story of a boy that dreams of joining the circus.  When he sleeps his dreams are filled with colorful circus characters and performers, including a harlequin who becomes his guide and friend who shows him the wonder of the circus.

SCV Youth Project “Sweet Charity Cake Auction”Santa Clarita Valley Youth Project Gears Up For 6th Annual Cake Auction

Santa Clarita’s sweetest event is the SCV Youth Project “Sweet Charity Cake Auction.”  This event features uniquely inspired and decorated cakes that reflect a business or organizations theme which is paired with individualized products, gifts and/or services.  Auction guests can view and bid on the cakes.  Cakes will be awarded prizes based on their originality, creativity, and the cake that raises the most money. The SCV Youth Project provides free services to teens in the Santa Clarita Valley on issues including: life challenges, depression, suicide, grief/loss, peer pressure, and drug/alcohol abuse.

Santa Clarita Valley's Circle Of Hope Hosting Run/Walk For Life At Castaic LakeCircle Of Hope “Tri Tip Throwdown”

Come be part of the Circle of Hope “Tri Tip Throwdown.”  If you have a grilling reputation, now is the time to put your skills to the test all to benefit the Circle of Hope.  There is also a Pie Recipe Competition.  The afternoon will include a live band, line dancing and a beer garden.  Tickets for the event are available online for $10 for adults and $5 for children age 12 and under.  You can enter the competition online.  Circle of Hope’s mission statement says it provides emotional, financial and educational support to those diagnosed with cancer in the Santa Clarita Valley.  100% of donations and proceeds remain in the Santa Clarita Valley.

Connie and her husband, John, moved to the Santa Clarita Valley almost 30 years ago. Living in Santa Clarita for that long is the direct opposite of Connie’s childhood. She was an Army ‘brat’ who moved every two to three years. Consequently, she has lived in many states and even spent three years in Europe. All three of her kids went to Santa Clarita schools.
