During “Try The Y Tuesdays” you can try a class at the Santa Clarita Family YMCA for free.  Even better, the Y is waiving the joining fee for new members every Tuesday throughout June.  The Santa Clarita Family YMCA on McBean Parkway has more than 90 group exercise options and free childcare while you work out.  These offers are valid Tuesday June 2-30 and are not applicable to precious purchases.  Monthly membership fees will apply.

Valencia Town Center Farmers MarketTown Center Farmer’s Market

Canyon Theatre Guild “West Side Story”west side story

“Theatre lovers, get ready to rumble!’ with the Canyon Theatre Guild’s production of “West Side Story.”  Whether you are team Jets or team Sharks, everyone loves a love story.  The show opens Saturday, May 30 at 8am with a free Wine & Champagne Reception at 7pm.  In addition to the play, join director Patti Finley as she directs her farewell production at Canyon Theatre Guild after 20 years of involvement.  Patti and Greg will be moving to Idaho to be closer to family.  Adult tickets are $19.  Junior (under 18) and Senior (62 and over) tickets are $17.

Elks “Car & Bike Show With Chili Cook Off”Santa Clarita Elks Lodge Hosts Car Show And Chili Cook-Off Fundraiser Saturday

The Santa Clarita Elks Lodge 2379 is holding their Car Show & Chili Cook Off. “Start up the car, load in your family and friends, and drive over the Elks Annual Car & Bike Show and Chili Cook Off.” The community is invited to this popular annual event that includes a car and motorcycle show, chili cook off, barbeque, boutique, and bake sale.  Add in: Magician Juan Martinez, children’s activities with face painting and games, Photo Booth Hysteria, Wiki Wiki Shave Ice, and live music by the Bones Sharks – a classic Southern California surf rock. You can register your classic, custom and muscle cars and motorcycles at 9am.

The city of Santa Clarita’s popular series Thursdays@Newhall, is back and offering residents square dancing lessons, trucks and off-roading vehicles, a Western-themed block party, and appearances by renowned musicians, officials said Monday.Thursdays@Newhall ArtSLAM JAM Session

Thursdays@Newhall has a different focus every week.  The first week of the month is ArtSLAM JAM, a free open-air gallery combining local and regional artists into a once a month pop-up gallery experience.  The evening includes interactive hands on art and activity booth, and demonstrations. This month’s JAM session is “African Dance & Drums.”  ArtSLAM will include ceramic art with a live potter’s wheel demonstration and hand building demonstration.

The Santa Clarita Valley Family YMCA hold a Teen Travel Day Camp for incoming 6th through 9th grade teens.  “Teen Day Camp ensures the optimum amount of fun and excitement for middle school campers.”  There are five day and three day options with travel occurring on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays.  Register online.

Circus Vargas Coming To Santa ClaritaCircus Vargas
The Big One is Back, Circus Vargas, Circus Vargas.  The producers of Circus Vargas promise an all new show that is more magical and exciting than ever before.  The show, “ArleQuin – The Story” tells the story of a boy that dreams of joining the circus.  When he sleeps his dreams are filled with colorful circus characters and performers, including a harlequin who becomes his guide and friend who shows him the wonder of the circus.  Children can meet and perform with the cast for 30 minutes before the show.  Tickets are available at the box office (opens June 18), by calling 877-468-3861, that’s or online.

SC Optimist Foundation “Safety Town – Santa Clarita”Safety Town Santa Clarita
The Santa Clarita Optimist Foundation is sponsoring “Safety Town – Santa Clarita” camps.  The camps are 3-1/2 hours per day for five days that teach safety education and awareness.  The camps are geared for Transition Kindergarten, Pre-Kindergarten and Kindergarten age children.  During each camp, children will learn and have fun practicing essential safety skills they will use in their everyday lives at home and school, through repetitive, interactive instructional play.  “Safety Town” is a miniature city built to scale of a small child with a playground, traffic lights, street & stop signs, crosswalks & streets.  Children will practice Fire Safety, Earthquake & Disaster Safety, Personal Safety/Stranger Danger, Water Safety, Vehicle & Passenger Safety, Playground Safety, Pedestrian Safety, and Bicycle Safety.  Register online  or by calling 661-299-8942.  Fees are $150 per child and include a T-Shirt and school bag.  Scholarships are available.

City Of Santa Clarita “Great American Camp Out!”-Sign Up Now
The City of Santa Clarita is again holding the “Great American Camp Out.”  The Camp Out invites us to take a break from our electronics and pitch a tent to spend the night under the stars with family and friends.  The event offers: stargazing, T-shirt decorating, family games & crafts, and a traditional campfire with S’Mores.  A maximum number of 8 registered campers are allowed per site.  Registration has already begun and space is limited, so sign up now.

Santa Clarita Valley Youth Project Gears Up For 6th Annual Cake AuctionSCV Youth Project “Sweet Charity Cake Auction”
Santa Clarita’s sweetest event is the SCV Youth Project “Sweet Charity Cake Auction.”  This event features uniquely inspired and decorated cakes that reflect a business or organizations theme which is paired with individualized products, gifts and/or services.  Auction guests can view and bid on the cakes.  Cakes will be awarded prizes based on their originality, creativity, and the cake that raises the most money. The SCV Youth Project provides free services to teens in the Santa Clarita Valley on issues including: life challenges, depression, suicide, grief/loss, peer pressure, and drug/alcohol abuse.

Connie and her husband, John, moved to the Santa Clarita Valley almost 30 years ago. Living in Santa Clarita for that long is the direct opposite of Connie’s childhood. She was an Army ‘brat’ who moved every two to three years. Consequently, she has lived in many states and even spent three years in Europe. All three of her kids went to Santa Clarita schools. Connie says the best thing about her job at KHTS is that she is never bored. “If I’m not smiling, Carl is sure to ask why, just before giving me a mind-boggling project.” “KHTS AM-1220 is an integral part of our community and I’m glad to be a part of it.
