Town Center Farmer’s MarketValencia Town Center Farmers Market

Fire Hogs “Inaugural Memorial Ride”

Take part in the Inaugural Memorial Ride to benefit the L.A. County Firefighter Widows & Orphans Fund.  The ride is sponsored by the Fire Hogs Motorcycle Club which is made up of professional firefighters and is a non-profit organization.  The day starts with registration and a light breakfast and will include a 2-3 hour scenic ride, a tri-tip lunch, entertainment, live auction & raffles, and a classic Car Show by LACo Cruisers. Actress Kristy Swanson, the star of the movie “Buffy The Vampire Slayer” is scheduled to appear with her husband, Canadian Olympian Lloyd Eisler.  Online registration is $30 for rider and $20 passenger or lunch only guest.  The day of the event registration is $40 for rider and #$20 passenger or lunch only guest.
When:  Saturday, May 23 with registration beginning at 8:30am
Where:  ride starts at Fire Station 126 on Citrus and ends in Canyon Country near the Edwards Theatres

Six Flags Magic Mountain will debut Twisted Colossus this Memorial Day Weekend.  “Wood meets steel when the iconic “woodie” returns as the new Twisted Colossus – the longest, most innovative hybrid coaster in the world.”  Read more in an article on the KHTS website by KHTS’ own staff writer and intrepid coaster rider, Jessica Boyer: Six Flags Magic Mountain Unveils Twisted Colossus At Media Day. Twisted Colossus features: “Top Gun Stall” where the train slows down while upside down; “High Five” where two trains pass through an overbanked turn while facing each other giving the illusion that riders can reach out and high five riders of the other train; “Zero G Roll” where the track twists 360 degree; a 116-foot drop; 18 airtime hills; two lift hills; and four minutes on nearly 5,000 feet of track.

Six Flags Hurricane Harbor Set To Launch Bonzai Pipelines MondayHurricane Harbor
“Opening Weekend”

The Six Flags Hurricane Harbor 2015 season starts this Memorial Day weekend.  The thrill rides include: Black Snake Summit, Bonzai Pipeline, Lightning Falls, Reptile Ridge, Taboo Tower, Tiki Falls, and Tornado.  But it isn’t all about the thrills, there are family fun rides, too: Bamboo Racer, Forgotten Sea Wave Pool, Lizard Lagoon, Lost Temple Rapids, and River Cruise.  For the little ones there’s Castaway Cove and Splash Island.  Splash into the season at Hurricane Harbor.

Santa Clarita Valley YMCA Summer FunFamily YMCA Teen Travel Day Camp-Sign Up Now

The Santa Clarita Valley Family YMCA hold a Teen Travel Day Camp for incoming 6th through 9th grade teens.  “Teen Day Camp ensures the optimum amount of fun and excitement for middle school campers.”  There are five day and three day options with travel occurring on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays.  Register online.

“West Side Story”
“Theatre lovers, get ready to rumble!’ with the Canyon Theatre Guild’s production of “West Side Story.”  Whether you are team Jets or team Sharks, everyone loves a love story.  The show opens Saturday, May 30 at 8am with a free Wine & Champagne Reception at 7pm.  In addition to the play, join director Patti Finley as she directs her farewell production at Canyon Theatre Guild after 20 years of involvement.  Patti and Greg will be moving to Idaho to be closer to family.  Adult tickets are $19.  Junior (under 18) and Senior (62 and over) tickets are $17.

Battle Of The BandsCollege Of The Canyons “Battle Of The Bands” Auditions

Grab your lawn chairs, blankets, family and friends for the 2015 Battle of the Bands.  For weeks, bands have been submitting their music for the competition and six bands have been chosen.  This year the music ranges from indie-pop to punk to rock n’ roll.  The bands are:  At Our Expense, Bedlam for Barbie, The Butterfly Gang, Dos Trios, Scissorhand Syndrome, and The Venns.  The day is about the bands, but there you can also enjoy a classic car show and gourmet food trucks before the final winning band is named.  The bands are competing for a chance to win cash prizes and music equipment.  KHTS AM-1220 will also play the winning band’s music.

We have one last local chance to have our voices heard on the High-Speed Rail and the possible endangerment of our homes, churches, schools and businesses.  The California High-Speed Rail Authority is now conducting community meetings providing current information on the alternatives under consideration along the Palmdale to Burbank project section.  There is an option for underground alignments that will not negatively impact Santa Clarita neighborhoods.  You can find online:  Project Information, New Routes Bypass Santa Clarita, and a Project Petition.

City Of Santa Clarita “Great American Camp Out!”-Sign Up Now
The City of Santa Clarita is again holding the “Great American Camp Out.”  The Camp Out invites us to take a break from our electronics and pitch a tent to spend the night under the stars with family and friends.  The event offers: stargazing, T-shirt decorating, family games & crafts, and a traditional campfire with S’Mores.  A maximum number of 8 registered campers are allowed per site.  Registration has already begun and space is limited, so sign up now.

SCV Youth Project “Sweet Charity Cake Auction”SCV Youth Project's Sweet Charity Cake Auction Raises More Than $20K
Santa Clarita’s sweetest event is the SCV Youth Project “Sweet Charity Cake Auction.”  This event features uniquely inspired and decorated cakes that reflect a business or organizations theme which is paired with individualized products, gifts and/or services.  Auction guests can view and bid on the cakes.  Cakes will be awarded prizes based on their originality, creativity, and the cake that raises the most money. The SCV Youth Project provides free services to teens in the Santa Clarita Valley on issues including: life challenges, depression, suicide, grief/loss, peer pressure, and drug/alcohol abuse.

Connie and her husband, John, moved to the Santa Clarita Valley almost 30 years ago. Living in Santa Clarita for that long is the direct opposite of Connie’s childhood. She was an Army ‘brat’ who moved every two to three years. Consequently, she has lived in many states and even spent three years in Europe. All three of her kids went to Santa Clarita schools. Connie says the best thing about her job at KHTS is that she is never bored. “If I’m not smiling, Carl is sure to ask why, just before giving me a mind-boggling project.” “KHTS AM-1220 is an integral part of our community and I’m glad to be a part of it.
