High-Speed Rail Community Meeting
We have one last local chance to have our voices heard on the High-Speed Rail and the possible endangerment of our homes, churches, schools and businesses. The California High-Speed Rail Authority is now conducting community meetings providing current information on the alternatives under consideration along the Palmdale to Burbank project section. There is an option for underground alignments that will not negatively impact Santa Clarita neighborhoods. COC Battle Of The Bands
Grab your lawn chairs, blankets, family and friends for the 2015 Battle of the Bands. For weeks, bands have been submitting their music for the competition and six bands have been chosen. This year the music ranges from indie-pop to punk to rock n’ roll. The bands are: At Our Expense, Bedlam for Barbie, The Butterfly Gang, Dos Trios, Scissorhand Syndrome, and The Venns. The day is about the bands, but there you can also enjoy a classic car show and gourmet food trucks before the final winning band is named. The bands are competing for a chance to win cash prizes and music equipment. KHTS AM-1220 will also play the winning band’s music.

Westfield Valencia Town Center has a new Farmer’s Market. The market offers farm fresh and organic produce that is free of pesticides or chemical fertilizers from over 45 vendors. You will be able to find gluten-free vendors and prepared foods. The Farmer’s Market will also have entertainment, children’s activities, and more. Powder Puff Football – Jack’s Angels
Come cheer on the girls of the 3rd Annual Powder Puff Football Game to benefit Jack’s Angels. Not to be outdone, the guys cheer-squad is a must-see. The 2015 Angel Awards will take place at half-time honoring some of the 12 most helpful volunteers, plus servants, and local organizations. Assemblyman Scott Wilk will be one of those honored. Food will be available. Enter the raffle for prizes that include VIP tickets to The Ellen DeGeneres Show.

SCVi Charter School’s 7th graders are hosting their first annual “Renaissance Faire.” There will be food, games, workshops, entertainment, and items for sale. Tea time with Queen Elizabeth is sure to be a hit. The Faire is free and everyone is invited to attend.

Canyon Theatre Guild “West Side Story”
“Theatre lovers, get ready to rumble!’ with the Canyon Theatre Guild’s production of “West Side Story.” Whether you are team Jets or team Sharks, everyone loves a love story. The show opens Saturday, May 30 at 8am with a free Wine & Champagne Reception at 7pm. In addition to the play, join director Patti Finley as she directs her farewell production at Canyon Theatre Guild after 20 years of involvement. Patti and Greg will be moving to Idaho to be closer to family. Adult tickets are $19. Junior (under 18) and Senior (62 and over) tickets are $17.

Operation Underground Railroad “Rescue Run”
Operation Underground Railroad (OUR) helps liberate children from the sex trade industry throughout the world. In less than a year, OUR has liberated over 250 children and seen to the arrest of numerous traffickers. To help raise awareness and fund OUR is hosting a charity 5k run/walk that is family friendly. There will also be a kid’s fun run.

Register online for the Rescue Run. Same day registration is at 7am. Timing chip pick-up for all participants in the 5K is at 7:30am. The 5K starts at 8am and the Kids Run at 9:30am. There is an after party from 9am-noon.

Hogs N’ Horses “Ride For Our Troops”
Take part in the Hogs N’ Horses Charity Motorcycle-Horseback Trail Rider Poker Run “Ride For Our Troops.” The ride is a way to show appreciation and respect for the men and women who volunteer to serve in our country’s armed forces while raising funds for the Antelope Valley Veteran’s Outreach. After the Poker Run there will be a BBQ lunch, auctions, raffles, vendors, and live entertainment. Registration for Riders which includes BBQ is $30. Backseat riders with BBQ is $25. BBQ Lunch only is $15. Horse trailer parking is available across Sierra Highway at the VHS Arena.

Santa Clarita Valley Family YMCA Teen Travel Day Camp-Sign Up Now
The Santa Clarita Valley Family YMCA hold a Teen Travel Day Camp for incoming 6th through 9th grade teens. “Teen Day Camp ensures the optimum amount of fun and excitement for middle school campers.” There are five day and three day options with travel occurring on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays. The City of Santa Clarita is again holding the “Great American Camp Out.” The Camp Out invites us to take a break from our electronics and pitch a tent to spend the night under the stars with family and friends. SCV Youth Project “Sweet Charity Cake Auction”
Santa Clarita’s sweetest event is the SCV Youth Project “Sweet Charity Cake Auction.” This event features uniquely inspired and decorated cakes that reflect a business or organizations theme which is paired with individualized products, gifts and/or services. Auction guests can view and bid on the cakes. Cakes will be awarded prizes based on their originality, creativity, and the cake that raises the most money. The SCV Youth Project provides free services to teens in the Santa Clarita Valley on issues including: life challenges, depression, suicide, grief/loss, peer pressure, and drug/alcohol abuse.
