What: The 51st annual Premier Volunteer Recognition Event, 2016 Santa Clarita Valley Man and Woman of the Year dinner will be held on May 6. The purpose of the SCV Man and Woman of the Year recognition is to honor men and women who have given outstanding volunteer service to the SCV area.

12th Annual Santa Clarita Valley Mayor’s Prayer Breakfast

Wings for Life World Run 2016

When: Sunday, May 8 at 4 a.m.

What: Representing the Western United States among the long list of worldwide locations, this run takes place in the heart of Santa Clarita, allowing runners to enjoy an exciting start under the lights and a finish as the sun rises in California. It’s a fun 5k race, a 10k race, it’s a marathon race, it’s whatever distance race you want it to be. At exactly 11 a.m. UTC (4 a.m. local time), the Wings for Life World Run will simultaneously start around the world. Then, 30 minutes later, the Catcher Cars will set off, chasing runners until the last female and male running are caught. 100% of all the registration fees go straight to Wings for Life-funded spinal cord injury research projects.

BBQ and Beer Festival

When: Friday, May 6 from 6:30 to 9:15 p.m. and Saturday, May 7 from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m.

What: This two-day event will feature mouthwatering BBQ, live entertainment and handcrafted brew straight from local breweries. Friday will kick off the Ultimate Craft Beer Experience with samples of over 45 craft beers on tap, live music and BBQ. Saturday is all about mouthwatering BBQ. This family-friendly event will showcase the best BBQ and BBQ sauce in the state paired with some amazing craft beers on tap. Guests will also be marinated by the sound of four live bands while they shop a variety of sauce and outdoor vendors. Tickets available for purchase online.

He is most known for playing on the highly stylized, international AND1 Mixtape Tour; he has also appeared in several movies, most notably “Ball Don’t Lie.” Grayson will be coming to Santa Clarita to demo and provide an excellent free show with his fantastic basketball handling skills.

“Screenagers” Documentary Showing

What: Sierra Vista Junior High and Canyon High School are partnering together to show a special documentary. “Screenagers.” It will be an educational time and a wonderful resource for parents raising children in today’s world with screens and devices. There will be a facilitator to answer questions after the screening, and Hart District Director of Student Services Kathy Hunter will be leading the discussions.
