What: National Prescription Drug Take-Back Day 2016 is  Oct. 22, and Henry Mayo Newhall Hospital will serve as the Santa Clarita Valley’s collection point for unwanted prescription medications in partnership with Action Family Counseling. SCV residents can drop off unwanted medications outside the main hospital building — no questions asked.

What: West Ranch High School presents the 8thannual Southern California School Band and Orchestra (SCSBOA) Marching Band Competition, the Wildcat Classic! Each high school band will compete by division, followed by an incredible showcase performance of the three-time state champion West Ranch Band and Colorguard. The College of the Canyons Center for Early Childhood Education, or the ECE, has been awarded a $300,000 grant from Los Angeles Universal Preschool, or the LAUP, to help fund the Center’s Outdoor Classroom project, school officials announced Friday.

AYSO’s 14th Annual VIP Soccer Festival for Children with Special Needs

Tickets are $85 per person in advance, $95 at the door. All proceeds benefit the Santa Clarita community through the philanthropic programs of Assistance League.

Santa Clarita Marathon

When: Sunday, Nov. 6 at 7 a.m.
Where: Races start between the Hyatt Valencia and Westfield Valencia Town Center

What: The Santa Clarita Marathon, which is an official qualifying race for the Boston Marathon, will test the physical boundaries of the human body. The day will include a full marathon, a half marathon, a 5K run, Mayor’s Walk, and a Kid K run. All races will begin at 7:00 a.m., with the exception of the Kid K, which will begin at 8:30 a.m.

4th Annual Golden Years Expo and Senior Health Fair

When: Sunday, Nov. 6 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Where: Hyatt Regency Valencia and Santa Clarita Conference Center, 24500 Town Center Drive in Santa Clarita

What: The 4th Annual Golden Years Expo and Senior Health Fair is about senior choices and senior health. The expo connects the residents of the Santa Clarita Valley and North L.A. County who are seniors, who are planning for their senior years and who are caring for a senior with organizations and businesses who offer opportunities, services and products important to seniors.

Friends of the Library Bag Sale

When: Sunday, Nov. 6 through Wednesday, Nov. 9
Where: All three Santa Clarita Public Library branches

What: For only $7, you can fill a book bag with any books in the bookstore, and you get to keep the book bag! Fantastic selection of books. All proceeds benefit YOUR library! Save $1.00 by bringing in your old blue Friends of the Library bag from a previous bag sale.
