Valencia Marketplace Halloween Fun

When:  Saturday, October 25 from noon-3pm
Where:  Valencia Marketplace Amphitheater, The Old Road near McBean by Noah’s Bagels
Details: Valencia Marketplace is ready for Halloween Fun and Autumn.  KHTS will be helping Valencia Marketplace Kids Club celebrate with dancing to rockin’ music, climbing on the KHTS Antique 1948 Fire Truck, and balloon magic by Magic Castle Magician Dennis Forel.  Kids ages 12 and under can make free Halloween crafts and take part in a Halloween costume parade at 1pm.  Many of the local stores of Valencia Marketplace will have special sales.  Choirs from several elementary schools will also entertain. Real Life Church “Halloween On Route 66”

When:  Saturday, October 25 from 3-8pm
Where:  Real Life Church on Newhall Ranch Road, between McBean Parkway and Grandview
Details:  Real Life Church is holding their Fourth Annual Halloween Event “Halloween on Route 66.”  At “Halloween on Route 66” your family will experience a unique take on Halloween complete with free candy, fun and trunk-or-treating for all children of all ages.  Real Life will turn back the clock, “where the neon still glows bright, tail fins are high and the latest in stylish must-have automobile is the Chevy BelAir.” Food trucks will be there.  Enjoy a car show and BMX Stunt Show.  Parking is offsite.  More information on the event and parking is available online.

LARC Halloween Festival 2014

When:  Sunday, October 26 starting at 1pm
Where:  LARC Ranch, 29890 North Bouquet, Saugus – just north of Vasquez Canyon Road
Details: LARC Ranch is celebrating with their “LARC Halloween Festival 2014.”  The afternoon will be filled with Rock ‘n Roll music and dancing with DJ Bino Bates.  Sponsors are In & Out, Jamba Juice, and Tart Boy, so the food will be a hit.  A Festival needs games and there will be all kinds of Carnival Games.  LARC will use funds raised to help with the water crisis, operating expenses not covered by government funding, and to complete the solar project.  This weekend enjoy music by The Pink Cadillacs, Zydeco Party Band, and Beer Truck.  Stop by for treats at the Bake Sale hosted each weekend by non-profits from within our valley.  Tickets are $125 for adults, $50 for children, and $325 for a Family Package covering two adults and two children.  More information on LARC and the Halloween Festival is available by calling 661-296-8636 or online.

Details:  Valencia United Methodist is again participating in “Daniel Pearl World Music Day” with a free concert.  Guest artist Kyle Wolverton will be performing.  Daniel Pearl World Music Days was created in response to the 2002 kidnapping and murder of Daniel Pearl, reporter for the Wall Street Journal in Pakistan.  Daniel Pearl was also a talented musician.  World Music Day has the mission to promote cross-cultural understanding through journalism, music, and innovative communications.  More information about the event is available by calling 661-255-1301 or online.

Haunted Jailhouse and Carnival

When:  Sunday, October 26 from 11am-4pm
Where:  Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Department, 23740 Magic Mountain Parkway, at Valencia Boulevard
Details:  The Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Department and the Santa Clarita Valley Boys and Girls Club in cooperation with the City of Santa Clarita and the County of Los Angeles are hosting the 25th Annual Haunted Jailhouse and Carnival.  There will be a costume contest for all ages, moon bounces, music food, game booths, and informational booths.  Read more in an article on the KHTS website:  Santa Clarita Deputies Welcome SCV To Haunted Jailhouse. The Search & Rescue Team will have a zip-line ride with the ticket sales benefiting the Boys & Girls Club.

31st Hart Rampage
When:  Saturday, November 1 from 10am-9:30pm
Where:  College of the Canyons, Cougar Stadium, 26455 Rockwell Canyon, Valencia Campus
Details:  The 31st Annual Hart Rampage is hosted by the award-winning Hart Regiment Band & Colorguards.  The day will include 35 high school marching bands and colorguard teams from across Southern California and Utah, including all local SCV marching bands.  This is a spectacular family event.  Performances will begin at 10am and continue through the day, ending with a mass drumline, awards ceremony, and a special guest performance by the famous Pasadena City College Marching Lancers, the official band of the Tournament of Roses Parade.  Concessions and souvenirs will be sold.  Tickets are $10 for adults, $8 for seniors and students, and free for children under five.  Tickets are available at the gate.  Spectator information is detailed online.   More information is available by calling 661-645-9011 or online.   

Santa Clarita Marathon 2014
When:  Sunday, November 2, all races beginning at 7am (except Kid K beginning at 8:30am)
Where: Races start from Hyatt Regency Valencia, 24500 Town Center Drive – at McBean Parkway
Details:  Santa Clarita Marathon 2014 is back with a Full Marathon, Half Marathon, 5K Run, Mayor’s Walk, Kid K run and the two person Relay.  The Santa Clarita Marathon is a qualifying race for the Boston Marathon. Lancaster Performing Arts “Lonestar”
When:  Sunday, November 2 at 7pm
Where:  Lancaster Performing Arts Center, 750 West Lancaster Boulevard, Lancaster

Rancho Camulos “Community Festival”
When:  Saturday, November 8 from noon-4m
Where:  Rancho Camulos Museum and National Historic Monument, on Highway 126, 10 miles west of I-5
Details:  Rancho Camulos “Community Festival” is a free event of “historical happenings for history bugs of all ages” being held to thank the community for their continued support.  Historical re-enactors will show us the Rancho’s past.  You will learn about the residents that lived and worked on the Rancho, the inspiration for Helen Hunt Jackson’s novel Ramona.
Learn about the “Home of Ramona” from historian Phil Brigandi.  Camulos was one of the settings for Helen Hunt Jackson’s California epic novel, “Ramona”.  You can even watch the DW Griffith 1910 “Ramona” starring Mary Pickford which was filmed on location at Camulos and will be hosted by film historian, Hugh Munro Neely. There will be new exhibits and children’s activities.  Make adobe bricks, handmade tortillas and do laundry the old fashioned way with washtubs and wringers.  Community Festival entry is free.  More information, tour schedule and directions are available online.

Rancho Camulos “Ramona Nights” Film Festival & Fundraiser
When:  Saturday, November 8 from 5:30pm-9:00pm
Where:  Rancho Camulos Museum and National Historic Monument, on Highway 126, 10 miles west of I-5
Details:  Rancho Camulos “Ramona Nights” Film Festival & Fundraiser is a unique evening featuring a re-discovered and restored 1928 film “Ramona” starring Dolores del Rio.  The buffet includes tapas, wine and Ventura limoncello tasting, and live music by harpist Xavier.  The film will be shown in the Rancho’s 1930 schoolhouse.  The film was recently found in the Czech Republic.  A panel of film historians will relate how this ”lost” film traveled from Nazi Germany, through the Soviet Union, and was found  in the Czech Republic . The panel includes Hugh Munro Neely, documentary filmmaker, historian and film archivist; Phil Brigandi, Ramona historian; and  Desirée J. Garcia, Assistant  Professor of Film and Media Studies, Arizona State University. Festival Of Trees
When:  Two weekends:  November 14-16 and November 21-23 – times vary, check online
Where:  Valencia Industrial Center, 24700 Avenue Rockefeller
Details:  The 11th Annual Festival Of Trees benefitting the SCV Boys & Girls Club has a new home!  Festival of Trees has become the unofficial start of the holiday season with over 35 professionally decorated trees, 50 themed table top trees, wreaths, and over 100 gingerbread houses.  There is a holiday shopping boutique the second weekend and a community stage with performances all weekend, both weekends.  Festival of Trees starts Friday, November 14 at noon, with Jingle Jam Swing Dancing happening from 7-10pm.  General Admission tickets are $6 for age 15 and up; $3 for ages 4-14; $4 for age 65 and up; free admission for age 3 and under.  Purchase General Admission Tickets at the door (not available online).  Saturday, November 15 is the Holiday Hocus Pocus, Part 1 from 6-8:30pm (ticket required – available online).  Santa will be at the Festival all day on Sunday, November 16.  Holiday Hocus Pocus, Part 2 happens from 6-8:30pm on Friday, November 21 (ticket required – available online).  The Magic of the Lights Gala takes place on Saturday, November 22 from 6:30-11:30pm (gala ticket required – available online).  Again, times vary for the open-to-public hours, so please consult the website.  More information and special event tickets are available online.

Connie and her husband, John, moved to the Santa Clarita Valley almost 30 years ago. Living in Santa Clarita for that long is the direct opposite of Connie’s childhood.
