Child & Family Center “Kid Expo”

When:  Sunday, October 12 from 11am-4pm
Where:  Golden Valley High School, 27051 Robert C. Lee Parkway – at Golden Valley Parkway near Sierra Highway
Details:  Child & Family Center’s Eleventh Annual Kid Expo is set with over 100 exhibitors featuring services and activities for children.  Booths and exhibits will include: sports, dance, art, gymnastics, health, books, tutoring and more.  Children can participate in games, arts & crafts, reading and storytelling, art, music, sports, entertainment, and guest appearances by cartoon characters.  This is fun for the whole family.  KHTS will be there, stop by and say, “Hello!”  Admission is free for kids and $5 for adults.  Proceeds benefit the Child & Family Center of Santa Clarita.  More information is available online.

Granada Hills Street Faire

When:  Saturday, October 11 from 10am-5pm
Where:  Four blocks on Chatsworth Street between Zelzah and Encino
Details:  The Granada Hills Street Faire invites us to celebrate their community.  Shoppers will enjoy over 150 Arts and Crafts vendors.  The Car Show is expected to be the best of the nine previous fairs.  Kids can enjoy face painting and ponies.  The Health & Wellness portion will have hands on CPR, screenings and informational booths.  Live music and entertainment will be featured on multiple stages.  Raffle drawings will take place all day or take part in the auction.  A wide variety of food will be on sale.  Expect to see (and possibly adopt) dogs and cats as part of the pet adoption area.  More information, registrations, and directions are available online.

Crohn’s & Colitis Foundation “Take Steps Santa Clarita Walk”

When: Saturday, October 11, check-in at 4pm, walk at 5pm
Where: Bridgeport Park, off of Newhall Ranch Road, between Hillsborough Parkway and Grandview Drive
Details:  The Crohn’s & Colitis Foundation is holding their Third Annual “Take Steps Santa Clarita Walk.”  The walk is a two mile stroll through Bridgeport Park.  The festival part of the afternoon includes family friendly games, music, and food.  Proceeds support local patient programs and research projects for the cure of Crohn’s and Colitis. Santa Clarita Performing Arts Center “Open Mic Night”

When:  Wednesday, October 15 at 8pm
Where:  Santa Clarita Performing Arts Center, on the College of the Canyons Valencia Campus, 26455 Rockwell Canyon Road, Valencia

College Of The Canyons “Job & Career Fair”

When:  Wednesday, October 15 from 10am-2pm
Where:  College of the Canyons, Valencia Campus, East Gym, 26455 Rockwell Canyon Road, Valencia
Details:  College of the Canyons is hosting their fall “Job & Career Fair.”  Take this opportunity to network and meet business representatives from a wide range of businesses in the Santa Clarita Valley.  KHTS AM-1220 will be participating with a “Virtual Job Fair” for many businesses that cannot appear in person.  Bring copies of your resume, dress professionally, and be ready to present yourself.  This event is open to the public.  Parking will be free in the student lot during the event.  More information is available by calling 661-362-3286 or online.

Domestic Violence Center “Purple Walk Of Strength”

When:  Saturday, October 11 from 8am-11am
Where:  Starts at the College of the Canyons, Valencia Campus track
Details:  The Domestic Violence Center is hosting their Third Annual “Purple Walk of Strength.”  The 5K Walk is on the College of the Canyon track and on the running trails behind the college.  The Sponsor Expo begins at 8am, registration begins at 8:30am, and the walk begins at 9am.  Wear a white shirt or bring $1 to purchase a white shirt and prepare to “Get Purpled” while you walk.  Read more in an article on the KHTS website: Domestic Violence Awareness Month To Be Recognized By Santa Clarita Walk.    Registration is $40 (before October 10) or $50 on the day of the event.  All walkers need a registration form which is available online.   More information is available by calling 661-259-8175 or online.

Circle of Hope “The Many Colors Of Hope Afternoon Tea”
When:  Saturday, October 11 from 11:30am-3pm
Where:  Robinson Ranch Golf Club, 27734 Sand Canyon Road
Details:  This year’s Circle of Hope afternoon tea has the theme “Many Colors of Hope.”  The afternoon features a special cocktail reception, live entertainment, and a three course tea service.  Tea service includes: scones, muffins and tea sandwiches, and dessert treats. Canyon Theatre Guild “The 39 Steps”
When:  Friday and Saturday at 8pm: 10/11, 10/17, and 10/15;  Saturday and Sunday Matinees at 2pm: 10/12, 10/18, and 10/26

Lombardi Ranch “Fall Festival”
When:  now through Friday, October 31
Where:  Lombardi Ranch, 29527 Bouquet Canyon Road, Saugus
Details:  Lombardi Ranch is holding “Fall Festival 2014.”  The weather is Santa Clarita fall and Lombardi is bringing us autumn joy. For over 30 years Lombardi Ranch has been a working farm bringing family happiness during this change of seasons.  “Enjoy live bands, petting zoos, wagon rides, face paintings and more!  And remember, no child leaves empty handed!  Each little one leaves Lombardi Ranch with a balloon, sticker, and a smile on their face.”  Judging for the Scarecrow Contest takes place with weekend.    In addition to your pumpkins and Indian corn, check out the fresh produce: corn, tomatoes, onions, peppers, squashes, and flowers.  Check out the First Annual Lombardi Ranch Pumpkin Bread Bake Off scheduled for October 4.    The Lombardi Ranch Craft Fair is scheduled for October 11-12.   More information, a full schedule of events and directions are available by calling 661-296-8697 or online.

College Of The Canyons Theatre “ Fuddy Meers”
When:  8pm on October 10, 11, 17 and 18;  2pm on Sunday, October 12 and 19
Where:  College of the Canyons, Valencia Campus, Black Box Theatre,  26455 Rockwell Canyon Road, Valencia
Details:  College of the Canyons Theatre has performances of “Fuddy Meers.”  “Fuddy Meers tells the story of Claire, an amnesiac, who awakens each morning as a blank slate, with no knowledge of who she is.  Each day, her husband and son must tell her the facts of life, which are recorded in a book for Claire to review.  One morning Claire is abducted by a man claiming her husband wants to kill her.”  This show is for mature audiences with some material unsuitable for children under 17.  Children under 5 will not be allowed into the theater.    More information and tickets are available by calling 661-259-7800.

Hot Rods 4 Heroes Car & Motorcycle Show
When:  Sunday, October 12 from 10am-2pm
Where:  Old Town Newhall Library parking lot, 24500 Main Street, Old Town Newhall
Details:  American Legion Post 507 is holding a “Hot Rods 4 Heroes Car & Motorcycle Show.”  This charity event features food, live music, a Beer Garden, and raffles.  Car Show categories include: Best Paint Job, Best Muscle Car, Best Low Rider, Best Classic, and Best Engine.  Admission is free and open to the public.  Bring a toy for the Toy Drive.  Proceeds will be used to help local Veteran organizations.  More information is available by calling 661-259-8507.

A Night In His Throne Room
When:  Friday, October 10 from 7pm-9:30pm

Details:  Friends of Robin Ellis-Ferguson is hosting “A Night In His Throne Room” to raise funds for Robin, a devoted mom of two boys, who has inoperable cancer.  Guest artists include Mark Gasbarro, pianist for “Up”, “The Incredibles” and “Ratatouille.”  Vocalist include: Rick Riso (“Lion King,” “Invincible”), Steve Lively (Haven of Rest Quartet), Tom Scott (performed with Jennifer Lopez and Sheila Easton), and Hannah Cox (Lift Ticket Band).  Seating is limited.  For free printable tickets, email anightinhisthroneroom@yahoo.com.

Fall Into The Holidays Boutique

Old Town Newhall “Oktoberfest”
When:  Saturday, October 11 from 1pm-5pm
Where: Old Town Newhall, Main Street & Lyons Avenue
Details:  Old Town Newhall is celebrating “Oktoberfest” in an authentic Bavarian way.  There will be authentic Bavarian food including bratwurst, pretzels, strudel and other desserts.  Oktoberfest will feature beers that will get you in the mood to learn the original version of the German Chicken Dance.  “German Zeitgeist Band”, Disney’s official Oktoberfest Band will be performing.  Adult admission (age 21 and up) tickets are $10 online and $15 at the door.  Each Adult Tickets receives a Beer Flight Tasting-You Choose Three.  VIP Reserved Tent (10 Early Bird Adult Tickets in Private Beer Tent) admission is $200.  Tickets are available online.  More information is available online.

Family Promise SCV “Socktober”

Details:  Family Promise SCV is taking part in a national sock collection drive for our local homeless.  Read more in an article on the KHTS website:  Family Promise Officials Collecting Socks For “Socktober”  Family Promise SCV’s mission is to mobilize community faith groups in the SCV to assist homeless families to achieve sustainable independence.  Call Family Promise SCV to schedule a pickup or drop-off at 661-251-2868.  You can also drop off sock donations at KHTS, Monday through Friday from 8:30am-5pm.  Learn more about Family Promise SCV online .

West Ranch High “Glenn Miller Orchestra”
When:  Thursday, October 1 at 7pm
Where:  West Ranch High School Theater, 26255 W. Valencia Boulevard, Stevenson Ranch
Details:  West Ranch High School is hosting the world famous “Glenn Miller Orchestra.”  The orchestra will perform compositions from the original band and from the Glenn Miller Army Air Force Band, including:  In the Mood, Moonlight Serenade, Tuxedo Junction, Chattanooga Choo-Choo, and Pennsylvania 6-5000.  Funds raised will benefit the school’s music programs.  Ticket sale locations are available online or purchase online.   More information is available by calling 661-222-1220, ext 645 or online.

LARC Halloween Festival 2014
When:  Sunday, October 26 starting at 1pm
Where:  LARC Ranch, 29890 North Bouquet, Saugus – just north of Vasquez Canyon Road
Details: LARC Ranch is celebrating with their “LARC Halloween Festival 2014.”  The afternoon will be filled with Rock ‘n Roll music and dancing with DJ Bino Bates.  Sponsors are In & Out, Jamba Juice, and Tart Boy, so the food will be a hit.  A Festival needs games and there will be all kinds of Carnival Games.  LARC will use funds raised to help with the water crisis, operating expenses not covered by government funding, and to complete the solar project.  Tickets are $125 for adults, $50 for children, and $325 for a Family Package covering two adults and two children.  More information on LARC and the Halloween Festival is available by calling 661-296-8636 or online.

Soroptimist International Of Greater Santa Clarita Valley “The Wine Affair”

Where:  Town Center Drive & The Patios

Connie and her husband, John, moved to the Santa Clarita Valley almost 30 years ago. Living in Santa Clarita for that long is the direct opposite of Connie’s childhood. She was an Army ‘brat’ who moved every two to three years. Consequently, she has lived in many states and even spent three years in Europe. All three of her kids went to Santa Clarita schools.
