What: With Devon Tsuno’s “California Seedlings,” the COC Art Gallery takes contemporary art outside, using the gallery itself as a canvas. Influenced by Japanese, 19th century Ukiyo-e woodblock prints and fabric, Tsuno’s vibrant, densely layered works are inspired by the vigorous and dynamic flora competing for space in our urban environment. Pearl C. Hsiung’s “Two Faces, One Die” painting and video works explore states of physical and metaphysical metamorphosis. Often these transformations play out in anthropomorphizing landscapes that verge on portraiture.

What: Santa Clarita Valley’s Dancing with Our Stars has raised $1.5 million for nonprofit organizations since 2009. This friendly dance competition brings about 20 nonprofits together each year to raise money and awareness for their causes. Each nonprofit chooses a local “celebrity” to be a dancer, then it’s up to the nonprofit and dancer to raise as much money as possible via proxy votes. Each dancer is then paired with a professional dancer to choreograph a dance for the event.
