Canyon Theatre Guild “Thoroughly Modern Millie”
When: Fridays and Saturdays at 8pm:  6/9, 6/15, 6/16, 6/22, 6/23; Saturdays and Sundays 2pm:  6/10, 6/16, 6/17, 6/23, 6/24
Where: Canyon Theatre Guild, 24242 Main Street, Old Town Newhall
Details: The Canyon Theatre Guild brings us the Broadway Tony Award winning musical “Thoroughly Modern Millie”.  The play takes place in New York during the roaring ‘20s.  It tells the story of Millie Dillmount, a shiny-faced new-comer to the big city.   Tickets are $15 for juniors/seniors and $17 for adults.  Some of the material presented may not be suitable for young children.  Canyon Theatre Guild is offering free tickets to the unemployed and their family, with proof of unemployment.  Click here for more information and tickets or call 661-799-2702.

Santa Clarita Transit – Summer Beach Bus
When: Saturday, June 9
Where:
From Santa Clarita to Santa Monica beach and back
Details:
Grab your beach towels and sunscreen and take the easy way to Santa Monica beach: on the Santa Clarita Transit Beach Bus.  Your weekend ride will be in air-conditioned comfort with affordable prices and no parking stress.  The bus runs Saturday and Sunday from June 9 through September 2.  Ticket fares are $3 each way for children and adults.  Tickets are $1.50 each way for people with disabilities and seniors 60 years of age and over.  Children under 12 years of age must be accompanied by an adult.  Unaccompanied minors must bring valid school identification to verify age.  Click here for routes and pick up locations, or call 661-294-1BUS.

Domestic Violence Center – Boys Night Out
When: Friday, June 8 at 6pm
Where:
Residence of Bob Kellar, 26166 Ravenhill Road (1 block west of Sand Canyon and Placerita Canyon)
Details:

Undergrounds Café
When: Friday, June 8 at 8pm
Where:
23841 Newhall Ranch Road (between Grandview & McBean), lower level
Details: Undergrounds is an ‘all donation’ coffee house that offers entertainment on Friday evenings.  This week The Palmers will be performing.  The show is free, but artist donations are accepted.  Click here to learn more about Undergrounds.

Fast Frame Valencia – “Art Reception – The Works of Charles Acker”
When:  Saturday, June 9 from 1-4pm
Where:  FastFrame Valencia, 24204 Valencia Boulevard (near McBean, in the Whole Foods/Khols Center), 661-291-1325
Details:  Professional Artist Charles Acker was a retired art teacher of 42 years.  He was also a Veteran of World War II where he used his artistic talents by working as a cartographer (mapmaker).  Charles Acker’s collection includes over 1,500 original and spectacular works of art.  As a child he was featured in Detroit Newspapers and termed the “the boy genius.”  His sculptures and various works of art earned him numerous awards during his 88 years of life.  His collection includes many pictures of the military with details of period uniforms, horses, American Indians and many more.  He enjoyed using a wide array of medium from water color to colored pencils but the remarkable details in his artwork is what stands out in his “lifelike” pictures.  Mr. Charles Acker lived most of his life in Detroit, Michigan until his passing in January 2007.  Mr. Acker’s daughter will be hosting the reception.  Click here to learn more about Fast Frame Valencia and owners Randy Burzynski and Rose-Marie Longon.

Old Town Newhall Art Walk
When: Thursday, June 7 from 4-8pm
Where: Old Town Newhall
Details: On the first Thursday of the month, you can experience the artistic side of Newhall.  There will be arts & crafts booths, several businesses featuring performances and galleries, and you can stroll the Farmers Market. Gourmet food trucks will be on hand to excite your tastebuds.  This event is free and open to the public.  Click here for more information.

What: Golden Oak Adult School – Saturday Night Jazz
When: Saturday, June 9 at 7:30pm

West Ranch High School Theater, 26255 W. Valencia Boulevard, Stevenson Ranch
Details:
The Golden Oak Adult School is holding “Saturday Night Jazz” featuring the Golden Oak Jazz Band under the direction of Bob Babko.  Refreshments will be available.  General admission is $10; student and seniors (60 and over) tickets are $5.  Tickets are available at the door or call 661-259-0033, extension 444.  Click here to learn more.

What: Action Family Zone “Grand Opening”

Details:
Action Family Counseling is holding a “Grand Opening” for their new teen center “Action Family Zone”.  For many years, Cary Quashen, CEO and President of Action Family Counseling, has helped families that have struggled with drug and alcohol addition.  But he has a dream to do more for our community.  Cary Quashen has partnered with Family Life Coach Alex Urbina to start new programs for personal development at Action Family Zone.  The center for teens and families will focus on personal development and relationships with the motto “It Takes A Village” as its foundation.  In addition, Action Family Zone will be a place for teens to hang-out, and it will offer a variety of activities, including:  music and art studio, pool and ping-pong tables, video games, computer center and television lounge.  Every month will feature special events, including hikes, movie nights and dances.  Click here to learn more about Action Family Counseling and Action Family Zone.
