SCV Man & Woman Of The Year-Volunteer Recognition Event
When: Friday, May 4 at 6pm

Child & Family – Taste of the Town

When: Sunday, May 6 from 1-5pm
Where: Man Biomedical Park, 25104 Rye Canyon Loop (near Copperhill)
Details: Taste of the Town is the Child & Family Center’s premier event.  This event is a foodie’s dream come true.  Over 40 of our valley’s best restaurants and caterers will share their amazing food, wines, beers and ales.  The Champagne Diamond Drop is always popular.  Include live entertainment and live and silent auctions in a garden setting, and you’ll remember why this event is considered the “Best Charity Event in the SCV”.  Tickets are $75 for General Admission.  KHTS is selling tickets at our offices at 27225 Camp Plenty, Suite 8 (at the intersection of Soledad Canyon Road and Camp Plenty).  Call KHTS for more information or directions at 661-298-1220.  Click here to read more.

Mayor’s Prayer Breakfast
When: Thursday, May 3 from 7-8:30am
Where: Hyatt Regency Valencia, 24500 Towne Center Drive, Valencia
Details: The Santa Clarita Valley’s 8th Annual Mayor’s Prayer Breakfast will be held on Thursday, May 3 from 7-8:30am to “support our community in prayer”.  This year’s keynote speaker is record-setting, double amputee triathlete, Scott Rigsby.  Tickets are $25 in advance or $30 at the door.  Call 661-257-9250 or visit SCVMayorsPrayerBreakfast.com

Assistance League 5K Run/Walk
When: Sunday, May 6, check-in and race day registration at 6:30am, first run starts at 8am

Details:
If you’re looking for a way to support our community, the Assistance League has your answer, their 22nd Annual 5K Run/Walk and Kids 1K Fun Run.  The 5K run will be on the South Fork Trail.  The 1K Kids Fun Run takes place in Newhall Park where each child will receive a medal.  This is a fun family event for walkers or runners of all ages.  All proceeds benefit the Assistance League Operation School Bell which provides clothing to children in need throughout our valley.  Click herefor race registration or more information or call 661-259-8019.

Soroptimist–Gentlemen for a Cause
When: Saturday, May 5 at 6pm

Westridge Clubhouse, 27200 Sycamore Meadow, Valencia
Details:
Soroptimist International of Santa Clarita Valley says, “Grab your friends and come celebrate Gentlemen For A Cause”.  Bid on a wide range of professional services and some of our valley’s most eligible bachelors.  Proceeds benefit victims of domestic abuse through the Domestic Violence Center of Santa Clarita.  Tickets are $40 and includes dinner and one alcoholic beverage.  Click here to learn more.

Cinco de Mayo

Details:
Come to a Cinco de Mayo Block Party in Old Town Newhall.  There will be fun activities for everyone in the family.  Expect diverse food, cultural exhibits, music and entertainment.  There will be many activities just for kids, including a piñata.  Click here for a story on the event. Memorial Garden Tour
When: Sunday, May 6 from 10am to 5pm
Where:
various showcase gardens around the Santa Clarita Valley
Details:
This is the 7th Annual “Memorial Garden Tour”.  There will be nine showcase gardens (8 private, 1 public).  The gardens range from architectural design to the humble cottage garden.  This is a self guided tour where your donation is a free will offering.  Each garden accepts donations.  Your donations support the Cole William Larsen Foundation, Incorporated, a non-profit charity that supports families of fallen and wounded military.  Christi Larsen was inspired for the garden tour when her son, PFC Cole William Larsen, gave his life in 2004 while serving in Iraq.  Christi says, “This tour is to honor the memory of my son, along with all of our brave fallen and wounded military who have sacrificed for our country.”  Click here to learn more and see a list of the garden locations.

What:  2nd Annual WildBeast Concerts at CalArts – World Rhythms With Pete Lockett
When:  Saturday, May 5 from 7-9pm
Where:  California Institute of the Arts, S. Mark Taper Foundation Courtyard, 24700 McBean Parkway, Valencia
Details: “World Rhythms with Pete Lockett” offers an evening with the CalArts World Percussion Ensemble.  Visiting artist Pete Lockett is featured along with Hands On’Semble and tabla maestro Swapan Chandhuri.  This is a free outdoor music concert, so grab the family and your picnic gear.

What: SCV Habitat for Heroes – Women’s Empowerment Build
When: Saturday, May 5, registration from 8-9am, event start at 9am
Where: a new development in Sylmar, 14560-14562 Foothill Boulevard, Sylmar
Details: Women of Santa Clarita, get in on the 3rd Annual Women’s Empowerment Build.  You don’t need experience, just a willingness to work.  Hammers will be raised to build homes for veteran families and widows of the fallen in need.  Just come and have a great time.  Call 818-884-8808 or click here.

See the Saugus Dance Team perform their National Champion Award winning dances and many others at their Spring Show.  Teams from other Santa Clarita and San Fernando Valley high schools and various dance studios will be performing, too.  There will be special performances by the Saugus Dance Dads and the Saugus Co-Ed Dance.

What: Old Town Newhall Art Walk
When: Thursday, May 3 from 4-8pm

Old Town Newhall on Main Street

On the first Thursday of the month, you can experience the artistic side of Newhall.  There will be arts & crafts booths, several businesses featuring performances and galleries, and you can stroll the Farmers Market. What: City of Santa Clarita – Dog Vaccination Clinic

SC Sports Complex, Canine Country Dog Park, 20840 Centre Pointe Parkway

The City of Santa Clarita and the Los Angeles County Department is sponsoring the Annual Pet Vaccination Clinic at the City’s Sports Complex’s Canine Country Dog Park.  Various services will be offered, including low-cost vaccinations, license renewal, pet adoptions and free micro-chipping for dogs.

What: Tributefest 2012
When: Saturday, May 12 from 11am-10p
Where: Central Park, 27150 Bouquet Canyon Road, Santa Clarita
Details: The 3rd Annual Tributefest is coming back to Santa Clarita.  Take eight tribute bands over ten hours, add ten gourmet food trucks, beer and dancing, and you have a Tributefest party.  So, buy your tickets; then grab your chairs/blankets for the best party in Santa Clarita.  Bands will pay tribute to Elton John, The Beatles, Johnny Cash, Tom Petty, Journey, Dave Mathews, U2, The Police and Queen.  With names like: Nom Nom, Rebel Bites, Sweet E’s, Don Chow and Great Balls On Tires, the gourmet food trucks should be a real hit.  There will be dozens of beers on tap.  KHTS is selling tickets as part of our Restaurant Row program.  The tickets are $40 each and on Restaurant Row they are $20 each.  Purchase here at the station, 27225 Camp Plenty Road (at Soledad Canyon) or purchase on-line at shopKHTS.comClick here to learn more.

What: Stand Up Guys: A Family Comedy Night
When: May 18th – 8-10pm
Where: 23841 Newhall Ranch Rd, Valencia
Details: “Standup Guys: A Family Comedy Show” benefits Veterans in the SCV Habitat for Heroes Program.  This belly laugh event will feature comedians Robert G. Lee, Kenn Kington and Daren Streblow.  Combining side splitting laughter, life changing content, advocacy and fundraising, the Standup Guys are coming to our Hometown.  This is a performance you won’t want to miss!  KHTS is selling tickets: Tickets: $15.00 before May 11th, $17.50 after May 11th and VIP Tickets: $20.00.  Click here for more information.
