Honor Court Golf Classic
When: Monday, May 14
Where: Tournament Players Club, 26550 Heritage View Lane, Valencia
Details: Sign up to play at the 2nd Annual Honor Court Golf Classic.  NorthPark Community Church dedicated Honor Court on 9/11/11 to remember the sacrifices of those who gave their lives in service of our community and country.  The Honor Court is set apart on the campus of NorthPark Community Church.  It was built with money raised from the Inaugural Honor Court Golf Classic and private donations.  Phase 2 will include a donor recognition feature, signage, additional bronze plaques for fallen first responders and possibly a water feature.  To do all this, we need to get involved.  Players, volunteers and hole sponsors are needed.  Auction items and donations are needed, too.  Click here to learn more about Honor Court.   Click here for more information on the Golf Classic or to sign up to volunteer, sponsor and/or to play.

Tributefest 2012
When: Saturday, May 12 from 11am-10p
Where: Central Park, 27150 Bouquet Canyon Road, Santa Clarita
Details: The 3rd Annual Tributefest is coming back to Santa Clarita.  Take eight tribute bands over ten hours; add ten gourmet food trucks, beer and dancing, and you have a Tributefest party.  So, buy your tickets, then grab your chairs/blankets for the best party in Santa Clarita.  Bands will pay tribute to Elton John, The Beatles, Johnny Cash, Tom Petty, Journey, Dave Mathews, U2, The Police and Queen.  With names like: Nom Nom, Rebel Bites, Sweet E’s, Don Chow and Great Balls On Tires, the gourmet food trucks should be a real hit.  There will be dozens of beers on tap.  KHTS is selling tickets as part of our Restaurant Row program.  The tickets are $40 each and on Restaurant Row they are $20 each.  Purchase here at the station, 27225 Camp Plenty Road (at Soledad Canyon) or purchase on-line at shopKHTS.comClick here to learn more.

Lancaster Performing Arts Center – “Sleeping Beauty”
When: Saturday, May 12 at 7pm and Sunday, May 13 at 2pm 
Where: Lancaster Performing Arts Center, 750 W. Lancaster Boulevard, Lancaster

Golden Valley High – Grub Night
When: Monday, May 14 at 6pm
Where: Chili’s Restaurant in Golden Valley Plaza, 19071 Golden Valley Road, Santa Clarita

SCV Senior Center – Caregiver Resource Day
When: Saturday, May 12 from 8:30am to 1pm
Where: Santa Clarita Valley Senior Center, 22900 Market Street, Newhall
Details: The Santa Clarita Valley Senior Center is holding its Annual Caregiver Resource Day to provide education, support and resources to those caring for loved ones with chronic conditions related to aging, such as Alzheimer’s disease.  Keynote speakers are:  Helena Chang Chui, M.D., Rachelle Dardeau, SCV Senior Center Executive Director and Elder Law Attorney Jane M. McNamara.  The event recognizes the demands and responsibilities of caregivers.  Registration is $5 per person and includes all sessions, resource materials, access to vendors and a continental breakfast.  There will be free drawings throughout the day.  For more information call 661-255-1588.

Placerita Canyon Nature Center – Open House and Family Festival
When: Saturday, May 12 from 10am to 3pm
Where: Placerita Canyon Nature Center, 19152 Placerita Canyon Road, Newhall
Details: Head on over to Placerita Canyon Nature Center for their Open House and Family Festival.  There will be animal presentation and guided hikes.  The kids will love panning for fools gold and face painting.  Admission and parking are free.  The Nature Center is a staple of our community and has the family in mind with this event.  Click here for more information on the Placerita Canyon Nature Center.

What: Valley View Community School Spring Spectacular
When: Saturday, May 12 from Noon to 4pm
Where: Valley View Community School, 19414 Sierra Estates Drive, Newhall
Details: Come to the Spring Spectacular at Valley View Community School.  The day will include: extreme inflatable fun with two giant obstacle courses, a giant slide, bounce house, derby races, games an antique car show, face painting, caricature art, student art show, silent auction, food, entertainment and more.

What: Lions In The Landscape
When: Tuesday, May 15 at 7pm
Where: Santa Clarita Sports Center – Activities Center, 20880 Center Pointe Parkway
Details: Dr. Seth Riley, wildlife ecologist from the National Park Service will share the decade of mountain lion research he has done in the Santa Monica Mountains.  He’ll also share how large landscapes are important to the preservation of mountain lions.

What: Gibbon Conservation – Spring Open House
When:  Saturday, May 12 from 10am to 1pm
Where:  Gibbon Conservation Center, 19100 Esguerra Road, Saugus (just off Bouquet Canyon Road, near Lombardi Ranch)
Details: Celebrate spring with the famous singing apes of Santa Clarita.  In celebration of Mother’s Day and to celebrate new babies, mothers get in free.  There will be educational tours and face painting.  Bring a lunch to have in the Center’s picnic area.  Beverages, fruit and desserts are available for purchase.  Kids age 5 and under are free, $5 for kids 5-12, $10 for adults and $5 for seniors.  Click here for more information and directions.

What: “The Center of the Universe”
When: La Mirada Theatre for the Performing Arts, 14900 La Mirada Boulevard, La Mirada
Where: Thursday, May 10 at 10am and 7pm
Details: “’The Center of the Universe’ is a powerful play aimed at teens and their parents about prejudice, tolerance, and violence.”  Local student Regina Bryant has a part in this important play.  The show is performed by an all-youth cast.  There will be a post show discussion after each performance.  Adult ticket prices are $6 for the 10am performance and $25 for the 7pm performance.  Tickets for high school students are $12.  Tickets for junior high/middle school students are $6.  Click here for tickets.

What: Stand Up Guys: A Family Comedy Night

Details: “Standup Guys: A Family Comedy Show” benefits Veterans in the SCV Habitat for Heroes Program.  This belly laugh event will feature comedians Robert G. What: Santa Clarita Valley Dodger Day
When: Saturday, May 19 at 7pm
Where: Dodger Stadium
Details:
Get ready for a ton of fun at Santa Clarita Valley Dodger Day.  Cheer on the Dodgers as they take on the world champion St. Louis Cardinals.  Tickets start at $25 with proceeds going to benefit local non-profit groups.  The last day to purchase tickets is Thursday, May 10 at noon. Tickets are on sale at the city of Santa Clarita’s Aquatic Center and online at dodgers.com/scv.

What: Strawberry Festival
When: Saturday, May 19 and Sunday, May 20 from 10am to 6:30pm

Strawberry Meadows of College Park, 3250 South Rose Avenue, Oxnard
Details:
Red, luscious strawberries will be in abundance at the California Strawberry Festival.  Food booths will be offering strawberry pizza, nachos, kabobs, beer and wine.  Then indulge in the strawberry desserts: shortcake, ice creams, funnel cake, flan, chocolate-dipped berries and cotton candy.  As the Festival folks say, “Affordable family fun never tasted so sweet.”  Kids will love the rides in Strawberryland.  There will be exhibits and presentations as part of Strawberry Promenade.  There are also strawberry contests to bring on belly laughs.  A wide variety of live entertainment will be performing.  There will be 250 booths in the Arts and Craft section.  Avoid traffic headaches by using the Festival shuttle.  Click here for traffic info, shuttle, entertainment line-up, directions, FAQs and more.
