Make A Difference Day

Where:  Kick-Off rally at Hyatt Regency Valencia.  Projects at various locations in the Santa Clarita Valley
Details:  Through the past 11 years, volunteers from all over Santa Clarita have participated in Make A Difference Day.  Make A Difference Day is here again allowing us an opportunity to give back to our community.  Volunteers – including individuals, families, and teams from businesses, churches, youth and service clubs – can take part in ‘hands on’ service project.  The projects will be at local schools, parks and charitable organizations.  The event is hosted by HandsOn Santa Clarita and the City of Santa Clarita.  For general information call 661-294-2573 or email office@handsonscv.org.  To volunteer, email:  scoronel@santa-clarita.com

COC – Star Party
When:  Friday, October 21 at 7:30pm
Where:  College of the Canyons, Canyon Country Campus – Amphitheater
Details:  Look to the stars at this free event.  Join in the College of the Canyons Star Party.  You’ll look through various telescopes to the stars, Jupiter and its moons and other heavenly bodies.  Bring your chairs and blankets to the Canyon Country Campus Carl A. CTG “Dracula”

Details:  You’ll surely be ready for Halloween after seeing CTG’s “Dracula”.  Don’t miss this exciting adaptation of Bram Stoker’s “Dracula”.  The production displays humor and horror while telling the story of Dracula.  This play is not recommended for children.  Click here for tickets and more information.

CTG “Little Prince”

Rubber Ducky Festival
When:  Saturday, October 22 from 10am-3pm
Where:  Castaic Lake, Paradise Cover
Details:  Adopt a Rubber Duck for the Rubber Ducky Festival Duck Regatta!  You’ll have a chance to win exciting prizes like a seven day vacation for up to four people.  The Regatta starts at 1pm.  Duck adoption costs $5 (one duck).  A Quack Family (five ducks plus 1 free) costs $25; a Quacker’s Dozen (10 ducks plus 2 free) for $50 and a Duck flock (20 ducks plus 4 free) for $100.  All prizes will be announced immediately after the regatta but winners need not be present.  In addition to the duck race, there will be a full day of fun with games, vendor booth, gourmet food trucks and water demonstrations.  All proceeds benefit the Samuel Dixon Foundation Health Centers. Click here for more information.   

Lombardi Ranch

Details:  Get into the spirit of the changing seasons at Lombardi Ranch. Lombardi Ranch has been a staple in Santa Clarita for over 30 years, especially at pumpkin time.  Enjoy Scarecrow Alley, fresh produce, live bands, petting zoos, wagon rides, face paintings, pony rides and more.  Bake sales happen every weekend by various Santa Clarita organizations.  As every Santa Clarita school age child knows, no little one leaves empty handed.  There are balloons, stickers, pencils and candy for each little hand.  Come to the Ranch and you’ll be sure to be humming the everlasting Lombardi Ranch song by David Reeves Carpenter.  Click here for information on Lombardi Ranch and all that they have to offer.

What:  COC – “Drowsy Chaperone”
When:  Friday, October 21 through Sunday, October 30.  Performances will be at 8pm on October 21-22 and October 28-29.  On October 23 and 30 there will be 2pm performances.
Where:   College of the Canyon Performing Arts Center
Details:  The Tony award winning musical “The Drowsy Chaperone” is here in the SCV.  This show is family friendly.  Tickets are $12 for adults and $6 for COC students and seniors.  On Opening Night, Friday, October 22, audience members are invited to dress in their best Roaring 20s costumes to be automatically entered into a raffle for a chance to win one of several door prizes.  Click here to read more on “The Drowsy Chaperone”.

What:  City – Walkabout Photography

Details:  Join the City of Santa Clarita and the Santa Clarita Valley Photographers Association for a day of photography.  At this free event, there will be a presentation by SCV Photographers Association President, David Green.  He will provide insight into the composition of a photograph and the concept of “walkabout photography”.  Then participants will ‘walkabout’ and take their own photographs.  The ending activity will be a chance to share photographs with the group.  This free program is presented in conjunction with “Spring Prints”, the current exhibition on display in the First Floor Gallery at City Hall.  RSVP at jbarber@santa-calrita.com

What:  Lancaster Performing Arts Center – Miles Davis Experience: 1949-1959, A Collaboration with Blue Note Records

Details:  The Santa Clarita Street Fair comes to town every 4^th weekend of the month.  This fun marketplace entertains the entire family.  Arts & Crafts and a variety of merchandise will be available for purchase.  Gourmet food trucks arrive on Saturdays from 11am-2pm and Sundays from 12:30pm-3pm.  The Farmers Market is open on Sunday from 8am-12pm.  Parking is free.  A portion of proceeds benefit the SCV Emergency Winter Shelter.

Where:  Jersey Mike’s on Soledad Canyon Road, near the Canyon Country Library
