Make A Difference Day
When:  Saturday, October 22 at 8am
Where:  Kick-Off rally at Hyatt Regency Valencia.  Projects at various locations in the Santa Clarita Valley
Details:  Through the past 11 years, volunteers from all over Santa Clarita have participated in Make A Difference Day.  Make A Difference Day is here again allowing us an opportunity to give back to our community.  Volunteers – including individuals, families, and teams from businesses, churches, youth and service clubs – can take part in ‘hands on’ service project.  The projects will be at local schools, parks and charitable organizations.  The event is hosted by HandsOn Santa Clarita and the City of Santa Clarita.  For general information call 661-294-2573 or email office@handsonscv.org.  To volunteer, email:  scoronel@santa-clarita.com

COC – Star Party
When:  Friday, October 21 at 7:30pm
Where:  College of the Canyons, Canyon Country Campus – Amphitheater
Details:  Look to the stars at this free event.  Join in the College of the Canyons Star Party.  You’ll look through various telescopes to the stars, Jupiter and its moons and other heavenly bodies.  Bring your chairs and blankets to the Canyon Country Campus Carl A. Rasmussen Amphitheater, 17200 Sierra Highway.  There will be a presentation by the college’s Physics & Astronomy faculty member, David Michaels.  Visit:  Canyons.edu

CTG “Dracula”
When:  Fridays at 8pm on 10/21, 10/28; Saturdays at 8pm on 10/22, 0/29; Sundays at 8pm on 10/22, 10/29
Where:  Canyon Theater Guild, 24242 Main Street, Old Town Newhall
Details:  You’ll surely be ready for Halloween after seeing CTG’s “Dracula”.  Don’t miss this exciting adaptation of Bram Stoker’s “Dracula”.  The production displays humor and horror while telling the story of Dracula.  This play is not recommended for children.  Click here for tickets and more information.

CTG “Little Prince”
When:  Saturdays at 2pm on 10/22, 10/29; Sundays at 2pm on 10/23, 10/30
Where:  Canyon Theater Guild, 24242 Main Street, Old Town Newhall
Details:  “The only limit is imagination.”  The Little Prince is a charmingly magical story that your entire family will enjoy.  Click here for tickets and more information.

Rubber Ducky Festival
When:  Saturday, October 22 from 10am-3pm
Where:  Castaic Lake, Paradise Cover
Details:  Adopt a Rubber Duck for the Rubber Ducky Festival Duck Regatta!  You’ll have a chance to win exciting prizes like a seven day vacation for up to four people.  The Regatta starts at 1pm.  Duck adoption costs $5 (one duck).  A Quack Family (five ducks plus 1 free) costs $25; a Quacker’s Dozen (10 ducks plus 2 free) for $50 and a Duck flock (20 ducks plus 4 free) for $100.  All prizes will be announced immediately after the regatta but winners need not be present.  In addition to the duck race, there will be a full day of fun with games, vendor booth, gourmet food trucks and water demonstrations.  All proceeds benefit the Samuel Dixon Foundation Health Centers. Click here for more information.   

Lombardi Ranch
When:  Saturdays from 9am-6pm and Sundays from 9am-5pm
Where:  Lombardi Ranch, 29527 Bouquet Canyon Rd in Saugus
Details:  Get into the spirit of the changing seasons at Lombardi Ranch. Lombardi Ranch has been a staple in Santa Clarita for over 30 years, especially at pumpkin time.  Enjoy Scarecrow Alley, fresh produce, live bands, petting zoos, wagon rides, face paintings, pony rides and more.  Bake sales happen every weekend by various Santa Clarita organizations.  As every Santa Clarita school age child knows, no little one leaves empty handed.  There are balloons, stickers, pencils and candy for each little hand.  Come to the Ranch and you’ll be sure to be humming the everlasting Lombardi Ranch song by David Reeves Carpenter.  Click here for information on Lombardi Ranch and all that they have to offer.

What:  COC – “Drowsy Chaperone”
When:  Friday, October 21 through Sunday, October 30.  Performances will be at 8pm on October 21-22 and October 28-29.  On October 23 and 30 there will be 2pm performances.
Where:   College of the Canyon Performing Arts Center
Details:  The Tony award winning musical “The Drowsy Chaperone” is here in the SCV.  This show is family friendly.  Tickets are $12 for adults and $6 for COC students and seniors.  On Opening Night, Friday, October 22, audience members are invited to dress in their best Roaring 20s costumes to be automatically entered into a raffle for a chance to win one of several door prizes.  Click here to read more on “The Drowsy Chaperone”.

What:  Safe & Secure Community Collection
When:  Saturday, October 22 from 9am-3pm
Where:  Valencia Town Center Parking Lot 6H at the corner of Magic Mountain Parkway and Citrus Street
Details:  This free community collection event will provide:  personal document destruction, electronic waste disposal and prescription medication disposal.  Click here for a more detailed description or the event and approved items for destruction and disposal.

Where:  Cabrillo Music Theatre, 2100 Thousand Oaks Boulevard, Thousand Oaks

What:  City – Walkabout Photography
When:  Saturday, October 22 from 10am-Noon
Where:  Tesoro Adobe Park, 29350 Avenida Rancho Tesoro
Details:  Join the City of Santa Clarita and the Santa Clarita Valley Photographers Association for a day of photography.  At this free event, there will be a presentation by SCV Photographers Association President, David Green.  He will provide insight into the composition of a photograph and the concept of “walkabout photography”.  Then participants will ‘walkabout’ and take their own photographs.  The ending activity will be a chance to share photographs with the group.  This free program is presented in conjunction with “Spring Prints”, the current exhibition on display in the First Floor Gallery at City Hall.  RSVP at jbarber@santa-calrita.com

What:  Lancaster Performing Arts Center – Miles Davis Experience: 1949-1959, A Collaboration with Blue Note Records
When:  Thursday, October 20 at 8pm
Where:  Lancaster Performing Arts Center, 750 West Lancaster Boulevard, Lancaster
Details: Recapture 1949-1959, including the iconic innovator, Miles Davis.  The show includes “live music performed as it was first presented with era photos and film clips brought together by a beat poet-style narrator.  You will leave the theatre with a true sense of what it was like to live in America during this important period.”  Tickets are $29 for Orchestra and $19 for Balcony.  Click here for more information.   

What:  HMNMH – Fashion Fit For A King
When: Sunday, October 23 from 10am-3pm
Where:  Sheraton Universal Hotel, 333 Universal Hollywood Drive, Universal City
Details:  English royal pomp and circumstance set the tone at the Henry Mayo Newhall Memorial Hospital Guild’s 27th Annual Fashion Show, ‘A Royal Fashion Show’.  As you may guess, the theme was inspired by the recent royal wedding of Prince William and Princess Catherine.  There will be a pre-fashion show presentation of the Silver Rose Debutantes.  Tickets cost $90 per person, and include entry into the specialty boutique, lunch and fashion show.  Click here for a story on the fashion show.  Click here for more information.   

What:  Cal Arts – WildBeast Concert
When:  Saturday, October 22 at 7pm
Where:  CalArts S. Mark Taper Foundation Courtyard, 24700 McBean Parkway
Details:  The WildBeast Concert Series presents “Four Pianos and a Wedding”.  “Virtuosos alumni pianists are joined by faculty vocal soloist, the CalArts Choir, and an impressive battery of percussionists.”  This free event is held outdoors.  Seating is open lawn seating.  Gourmet food trucks will be available.  Click here for more information.   

What:  SC Street Fair
When:  Saturday, October 22 from 9am-5pm and Sunday, October 23 from 8am-3pm
Where:  College of the Canyons, Parking Lot 8, near the football stadium 
Details:  The Santa Clarita Street Fair comes to town every 4th weekend of the month.  This fun marketplace entertains the entire family.  Arts & Crafts and a variety of merchandise will be available for purchase.  Gourmet food trucks arrive on Saturdays from 11am-2pm and Sundays from 12:30pm-3pm.  The Farmers Market is open on Sunday from 8am-12pm.  Parking is free.  A portion of proceeds benefit the SCV Emergency Winter Shelter.

What:  GVHS – Grub Night
When:  Wednesday, October 26 starting at 6:30pm
Where:  Jersey Mike’s on Soledad Canyon Road, near the Canyon Country Library
Details: The Golden Valley High School Band is one of the largest marching bands in Santa Clarita.  See them Wednesday as they perform at a pre-game rally (versus Saugus High School).  Click here for flyers. 

What:  Carve a Pumpkin Under Water
When:  Saturday, October 22 at 6pm
Where:  Santa Clarita Aquatic Center, 20850 Centre Pointe Parkway
Details:  The 4th Annual Underwater Pumpkin Carving Contest will surely draw an audience.  This event is free and will offer games and activities for all ages.  Pumpkin Carving competitors must be SCUBA certified, space if limited.  If you are interested in competing, contact Mark Jordan at 661-250-3782.

What:  SENSES at Old Town Newhall
When:  Thursday, October 20 from 7-11pm
Where:  Main Street in Old Town Newhall
Details:   Experience Old Town Newhall every third Thursday at an event that is designed to test your “sight, smell, touch, taste and sound with live music and entertainment, art, food trucks, beer, wine and more.”  This Halloween month’s theme is “Zombies”.  Click here for more information.   

What:  American Cancer – Bark for Life

Details: Zonta sponsors LifeForward workshops.  This weekend is “Communication and Relationship Skills”.  Participants learn communication skills to improve relationships in all areas of life.  The skills include how to listen, how to discover what’s behind the anger you feel, and why the Blame Game doesn’t work.  This workshop is free.  Click here for more information.
