Bras For A Cause-Denim & Diamond Hoe Down
When:  Sunday, October 2 from noon-3pm
Where:  Oaks Grille in the Tournament Players Club, 26550 Heritage View Lane, Valencia
Details:  Soroptimist International of Santa Clarita is holding its 8th Annual Bras for a Cause event “Denim & Diamond Hoe Down” in support of Breast Cancer Awareness month.  The event will have elaborately decorated bras on display.  Guests will have an opportunity to bid on items during the silent auction.  Tickets are $65.  The afternoon will be a 100% western event with a barbeque luncheon.  Click here for further information and tickets. 

Sheriff’s Chili Cook-Off
When:  Saturday, October 1 from 11am-4pm
Where:  Jack Bones Equestrian Center, off Tapia Canyon Road in Castaic
Details:  Enjoy a day of food and fun at the Sheriff’s “Fun in the Sun” Chili Cook-Off.  The kids will have fun in a Kids’ Zone filled with rides, bounce house and petting zoo.  Admission is $5 for adults, $3 for children 7-14, ages 6 and under admitted free.  Proceeds benefit the Santa Clarita Special Olympics and Fueled By The Fallen.  Click here for a story on the event.  While at Fun in the Sun” don’t miss the SCAAN – Santa Clarita Autism & Asperger Network booth. Lancaster Performing Arts – The Shangri-La Chinese Acrobats
When:  Saturday, October 1 at 8pm
Where:  Lancaster Performing Arts Center, 750 W Lancaster Boulevard, Lancaster
Details:  The Shangri-La Chinese Acrobats consists of sensational Chinese acrobatics, balancing feats, martial arts displays and much more.  The performers display the grace and precision that are a result of years of dedicated training and discipline.  The show is a rare look into an art that has been formed by centuries of tradition.  This show works for all ages.   Click here for more information and tickets.   

Lombardi Ranch-Scarecrow Contest
When:  Sunday, October 2
Where:  Lombardi Ranch, 29527 Bouquet Canyon Rd in Saugus
Details:  Get into the spirit of the changing seasons with the Lombardi Ranch Scarecrow Alley.  Lombardi Ranch has been a staple for over 30 years in Santa Clarita, especially at pumpkin time.  Enjoy the fresh produce, live bands, petting zoos, wagon rides, face paintings, pony rides and more.  Bake sales happen every weekend by various organizations throughout Santa Clarita.  As every Santa Clarita school age child knows, no little one leaves empty handed.  There are balloons, stickers, pencils and candy for each little hand.  Come to the Ranch and you’ll be sure to be humming the everlasting Lombardi Ranch song by David Reeves Carpenter.  Click here for information on Lombardi Ranch and all that they have to offer. 

Family Promise-Box City
When:  Saturday, October 1 at 4pm until 7am Sunday morning, October 2
Where:  Bridgeport Park, 23520 Bridgeport Lane, directly south of Newhall Ranch Road
Details:  Family Promise would like you to trade one comfortable night in your bed for a unique opportunity to raise awareness funds for the homeless at Box City.  Last year there were more than 220 participants who camped out at Box City, and an additional 150 who spent the night.  Decorate your own dwelling, including box or pop-up tent, sleeping bag, tarp, pillow, flashlight and water.  Box City will provide dinner and breakfast consisting of a modest, homeless-shelter style meals.  Activities for the evening include entertainment, crafts, and a movie.  Prizes will be awarded:  Key to the City “Honorary Mayor” for the most money raised, and additional prizes for Most Creative Dwellings.  Funds raised will benefit Family Promise of SCV, a non-profit dedicated to providing homeless families with interim shelter and support services, with the goal of transitioning families into permanent housing.  Click here for a Family Promise – Box City story by KHTS’ own, Carol Rock.   

SCAA-Art Show Reception
When:  Friday, September 30 from 5-7pm
Where:  Union Bank, 23620 Lyons Avenue, Newhall
Details:  The Santa Clarita Artist Association is holding a three day gallery of artwork at Union Bank.  Twenty two members of the Artist Association created the art.  All artwork will be available for purchase.  On Friday, Union Bank will present a $1,000 sponsorship for the upcoming SCAA Art Classic Gala.  The presentation will be made at an artist’s reception.  The public is invited.  Refreshments will be served.

Mixer’s Restaurant-Oktoberfest
When:  Sunday, October 2 from 4-8pm
Where:  Mixers Restaurant & Lounge, 26532 Bouquet Canyon, in the Ross Shopping Center
Details:  The Mixers Restaurant & Lounge is calling you to Oktoberfest with over 60 beers, live entertainment, beer n’ bratwurst and Das Boot, a 32 ounce boot-filled mug.  Their tasting room features beer sampling for only a dollar.  Order any of the assorted gourmet sausages cooked to perfection.

What:  SC Emblem Club – Boutique & Bake Sale
When:  Saturday, October 1 from 9:30am to 3:30pm
Where:  Elks Lodge, 17766 Sierra Highway in Canyon Country
Details:  Get a jump start on holiday shopping at this remarkable Charity Boutique & Bake Sale.  You will find:  jewelry, candles, quilts, crochet & knit items, vases, antiques & collectibles, paper goods & notecards, holiday items, tasty baked items and so much more.  In addition to the boutique, there will be an experienced professional appraisal team who will provide verbal appraisals for a small fee of $5 for each item (or 5 items for $20) of art, antiques, jewelry, etc.  They will be on hand from 11am-3pm.  The event benefits various charities in the Santa Clarita Valley.  This boutique will get your holiday shopping off to a great start with many gifts and items that you’ll want to keep for yourself.

What:  Eternal Valley – Start School On The Right Foot

Details:  You still have time to help our local school children with Eternal Valley’s “Start School On The Right Foot” program.  Eternal Valley is collecting new and gently-used shoes to assist Santa Clarita’s Help the Children, which helps struggling families. 

What:  SC Performing Arts Center – The Mask Messenger
When:  Saturday, October 1, 2pm
Where:  Santa Clarita  Performing Arts Center at College of the Canyons
Details:  This is a “mind-bending and uniquely creative show centered around various masks and the stories they inspire, The Mask Messenger is a series of vignettes ranging from comic to bizarre to poignant.  Body language, psychological insight and humor are the driving forces behind each performance as the power of transformation is demonstrated through the magic of masks.”  Click here for tickets.
