NorthPark Church – Honor Court and 9/11 Services
When:  Sunday, September 11 (see times below)
Where:  NorthPark Community Church, 28310 Kelly Johnson Parkway
Details:  Pastor Dave invites you to services Sunday at 9am, 10:30am, 11:45am and 7pm.  He will do a special message on “Rays of Light”, an inspiring and hopeful message about our country.  Click here for more information.  That evening there will be a dedication at 7pm of “Honor Court”, a special memorial to commemorate the lives, deeds and living memory of those members of law enforcement, emergency responders and the armed services who made the ultimate sacrifice.  With the dedication of Honor Court, NorthPark will also recognize the ten-year anniversary of 9/11 and honor the sons of two NorthPark families: Marine Lance Corporal Ricky P. Slocum who died on October 24, 200 in Iraq and Los Angeles County Sheriff Deputy David March who was killed in the line of duty on April 29, 2002 in Irwindale, California.  “The Honor Court is a place of reflection and a solemn expression of gratitude.  It is a beacon of strength and affirmation for our local Santa Clarita community and beyond.”  Click here for a story on Honor Court by KHTS own, Mark Archuleta.   

SCV Homes For Heroes – 9/11 BBQ
When:  Sunday, September 11 from 1-3pm
Where:  Santa Clarita Elks Lodge, 17766 Sierra Highway
Details:  Everyone is invited to a 9/11 Tenth Anniversary BBQ Lunch.  Two important organizations will be there: SCV Homes For Heroes, the SCV affiliate of Habitat For Humanity starting a new program to serve civilian veterans and their families in the Santa Clarita Valley; and Iraq Star, an organization providing reconstructive surgery to wounded American warriors returning from Iraq and Afghanistan.  Councilman Bob Kellar will be Master of Ceremonies.  Tickets are $10 each or six tickets for $50 – advance sales only.  Veterans of war in Iraq and/or Afghanistan eat free.  Following lunch, there will be Wounded American Warrior presentations.  Click here to learn more about SCV Homes For Heroes.    Click here for a story on SCV Homes For Heroes by KHTS’ own, Carol Rock.

Grace Baptist Church – 9/11 Fear Not
When:  Saturday, September 10 at 5:00pm; Sunday, September 11 at 9:00am and 10:45am
Where:  Grace Baptist Church, 22833 Copper Hill Drive
Details:  Grace Baptist will commemorate the 10th anniversary of the 9/11 attacks with “Fear Not”, services of remembrance.  “The events of that day are a decade removed from us, and yet, even from this distance, the loss cannot be fully calculated.  The pain still lingers, anger still rises, and questions still remain unanswered.  What have we learned?  What do we still need to learn?”  The services will feature the musical ministry sanctuary choir and praise orchestra.  Click here for a story by KHTS’ own, Mark Archuleta.     Visit:  GraceBaptist.org 

Helping Hands – Black Tie Gala
When:  Saturday, September 10 from 6:30-11pm
Where:  Hyatt Valencia, 24500 Town Center Drive
Details:  Helping Hands International is holding its 3rd Annual Adopt a Village Black Tie Gala.  The evening will include a delicious dinner, live and silent auctions, live entertainment by world-renowned drummers from Kenya and a traditional Kenyan fashion show.  Tickets are $100.  The gala proceeds will help support Helping Hands efforts in their adopted Kenyan village with a medical clinic, water well and nursery school.  Click here for more information on the Black Tie Gala and Helping Hands. 

Child & Family 35th Birthday
When:  Friday, September 9 from 6:30-8:30pm
Where:  Child & Family Center, 21545 Centre Pointe Parkway, Education Building
Details:  The Child & Family Center is celebrating 35 years of service to the SCV.  All are invited to their birthday celebration that will recognize the founders, past and present staff, and support of the center.  There will be an art display, photo memorabilia and a Child & Family trivia game.  The $35 fee includes beverages, appetizers, dessert and entertainment.  You are asked to RSVP at 255-6847.  Dress is business casual attire.  Click here to learn more about Child & Family.

Comfort Keepers Blood Drive
When:  Monday, September 12 from Noon-6pm
Where:  Comfort Keepers, 23900 Lyons Avenue
Details:  Every two seconds someone in the United States needs blood.  Comfort Keepers and the American Red Cross are helping those in need of blood right here in Santa Clarita.  One donation can help save the lives of up to three people.  The blood collected at this drive will be used right here in our valley.  Walk-ins are welcomed, but appointments are preferred.  Call Comfort Keepers at 661-287-4200 to make an appointment.  Click here to learn more about Comfort Keepers In-Home Care.

What:  Resume Rally at COC
When:  Wednesday, September 7 from 10a-2p and Thursday, September 8 from 10a-6p
Where:  Wednesday at Canyon Country Campus (Quad 1, Bldg B, Rm 110) and on Thursday at Valencia Campus (Student Center-Staff Dining Room)
Details:  Meet professionals who will help you with your resume.  Your existing resume will be critiqued with the goal of creating a new professional resume that highlights your skills and qualifications.  Your new resume will be invaluable at the upcoming Job Fair on Saturday, September 17 from 10am-2pm at the Santa Clarita Activities Center.  Click here for a story on the Resume Rally.   

What:  Sean’s Fund
When:  Saturday, September 10 starting at 6:30pm
Where:  Seventh Day Adventist Church on Valley Street in Newhall
Details:  Sean’s Fund will host its annual dinner, raffle and silent auction.  The proceeds help the Santa Clarita scholarship fund and program that brings fun-filled chess backpacks to young patients at Children’s Hospital and City of Hope.  The guest speaker is a local stunt woman who enjoys involving the audience.  Click here for more information and tickets.
