Town Hall Meeting on Air Quality

The City of Santa Clarita, the College of the Canyons, and the South Coast Air Quality Management District (AQMD) would like to invite all residents to a special town hall air quality meeting on Thursday, August 30, 2005. The meeting will be held from 6:30 to 9:00 pm at the Vital Express Center for the Performing Arts, located at 26455 Rockwell Canyon Road.

Those in attendance will be able to hear information about the results of a Santa Clarita air quality study, called the sub regional plan, as well as about air regulations and permitting requirements related to the Cemex Mine project. Experts will also discuss how to minimize air pollution in the Santa Clarita Valley.

The Air Quality Management District is the government agency responsible for ensuring the air quality in Santa Clarita and throughout the state. The City has partnered with them to address air quality issues in the Santa Clarita Valley in an effort to maintain the health and beauty of the City.

“We are grateful to the South Coast Air Quality Management District for assisting us with the air quality study in Santa Clarita,” said Travis Lange, Environmental Services Manager for the City. “With their assistance, we look forward to addressing this substantial health and environmental issue in our valley.”

For more information on the items to be discussed at the meeting, please contact Ron Ketcham, of the South Coast Air Quality Management District, at 909/396-3213 or visit www.aqmd.gov. More information is also available from the City’s Environmental Services Division at 661/286-4098.
