The free workshop, titled “Your Health and Well-Being,” is a continuation of Zonta’s 2013-14 season of LifeForward workshops and will feature appearances by two nutrition and exercise professionals, according to a news release by Zonta.
McKenzie Hall, registered dietician and nutritionist, and Shauna Parnell Smith, certified Jazzercise instructor, are scheduled to appear. Hall will address ways to prepare healthy food and Smith will lead attendees in a dance-to-the-music program, according to the news release.
“We go through a series of workshops from year to year that fit a pattern of life skills, career skills and health and well being,” said Pat Willett, a Zonta representative. “We talk about networking, we have some on divorce and getting child support — so all kinds of things that are important primarily to women.”
Zonta Club of SCV, whose mission is improving the lives of women through service, advocacy, and awareness, offers the free LifeForward workshops on a monthly basis in cooperation with Single Mothers Outreach, the Domestic Violence Center, Habitat for Humanity and Los Angeles County Family Services, according to the news release.
“We are trying to reach out to people who maybe haven’t been as successful, perhaps,” Willett said. “We try and reach women of the Domestic Violence Center, Single Mother’s Outreach, returning veterans– people like that who need a boost. We do things on goal setting and all aspects of a successful lifestyle.”
Free childcare is available for women who register in advance by calling 661-288-0117 and Spanish translation can be provided if requested in advance, according to the news release.
The workshop is scheduled for 10 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. March 15 at the Savia Community Center, 23780 Newhall Avenue in Newhall. Women who arrive by the 10 a.m. start time will be entered in a drawing for a free gift certificate.
